What Was Your Check Off List?
I attended the introductory meeting all about WLS. I then attended 2 support meetings. Went to nut classes, had my psych evaluation, got my clearance from my PCP. Got an approval, then met with surgeon, got clearances from Nephrologist, today got my clearance from the Pulmonary Dr. and on the 17th, I go for my stress test, for clearance. I did have my blood work done - no H Pylori, a chest x-ray and an EKG. I think they will again do blood work before the surgery. When I get the last clearance, I will meet again with surgeon to set date, have to attend a 3 hour class (what it is, I have no idea) and hopefully that is it until after the surgery. Lots to do...

Dietitian Counseling
Being lactose intolerant, I bought the calcium supplements right away. I haven't bought anything else yet. I will when I get my "date".

Questions
Cigna required 6 nut classes (Now changed to 3). I wasn't told to lose anything. The surgeon wanted me to lose about 25 pounds pre-surgery.

Any One From Jersey City , Nj
I was born and raised in JC. Went to Snyder and St. Peter's college. My husband was also from JC and went to Snyder. We lived in Bayonne for a year and a half. We moved to Hazlet after we married. Then, onto Florida here. I miss JC and shopping downtown Bayonne.

Cpap
I've been using a CPAP for 5 years now. Last year the old one died. It was like the white noise mentioned above. My new machine is really quiet. I, too, do not know what I would do without it, yet I am expecting to someday not need it, after the surgery and I lose serious weight.

Almond Milk
The nurse at the surgeon's office recommended almond milk (I have lactose intolerance). I had never heard of it. I bought a gallon and loved it so much, I tracked down a recipe online to make my own. My whole family drinks it now.

Korean Food
I asked my surgeon if somewhere down the road (I didn't give a time frame) if I could have Bulgogi (Barbeque beef) and his answer was "maybe". Since he is Korean, I thought he'd know when and "maybe" was his answer. I HATE maybe, say yes or no. I love Korean food.

Different Protein Shakes?
Yogurt has alot of protein in it. Diet jello has protein. I am using body fortress chocolate whey, if you use 2 scoops, you get 52 g protein. I make mine with almond milk (much more protein that reg. milk). It does has a lot of carbs, though. I only use a half scoop, because I like to eat my protein rather than drink it. I am sure that will change post-surgery.

Weight Goal, I Am Upset
Last week at the surgeons' I was told he would remove 70-75% of the stomach and that I would lose approximately 80% of my goal of 100 pounds. He suggested an RNY and I told him I would not be comfortable with that and still wanted the sleeve. I did not come this far to get my dreams shattered. I will merely diet until the whole 100 comes off.

Pre-Surgery Diet
I received my pre-op diet pages yesterday. Phase 1 is until they inform me of my date; Phase 2 is 2 weeks before the surgery. Phase 1: Meal portions in half; no starches or sugars; only lean meats or fish, fresh fruit or vegetable with every meal; 2-3 servings of dairy (lowfat milk or lowfat yogurt) daily. Can have lowfat cheese as Protein, but if it constipates you, do not eat it anymore, 2 Multivitamins per day. Exercise at least 5 days per week. Phase 2: Protein drinks, Fiber supplements, 1 cup raw vegetables per day ,100 oz of Fluid, and the barrage of Vitamins. I don't know what CQ10 is or what it is for, but I purchased it today. Since I've already lost 17 pounds, he said he'd like me to lose 5-8 pounds more before surgery.

So Frustrated With Scheduling!
I sooooo understand. I received my approval from Cigna; got an appt with the surgeon & coordinator. She tells me she has 2 openings for 9/21, but.... they will not schedule until I get clearances from a cardiologist and a pulmonologist. I got an appt with the pulmonologist for the 7th, but I have to "visist" with my PCP for the chest ex-ray taken. It has to be within 30 days of seeing the pulmonologist.. The x-ray was taken 8/7...31 days from the pulmonologist appt. After 3 calls (pleads) with the pul, they decided that if I got the xray there by the 6th, they would accept that it was within the 30 days. The Cardiologist (recommended by the surgeon) cannot see me until the 17th. I begged and pleaded just to be squeezed in, but no....he wants to run SOME tests. I told his office they had better all be run on one day. I sent an email to the advocate in the surgeon's office to find out the 21st is taken. He will be "away" for the greater part of Oct, so who knows at this point ? Just waiting and praying. I do not have any more emotion left in me.

Ugggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I finally got an appointment with the surgeon's office. I was so looking forward to getting a date. Now, they tell me they won't schedule a date until I get the clearances from the Pulmonary Dr. and Cardoligist. I have an appt with the pulmonary on Sep 5th and my PCP's office (who gave me a hard time getting a referral for the pumonologist) is now giving me a hard time getting the referral for the Cardiologist. Even thought I had my annual physical on Aug. 7th, they won't release my chest x-ray without another office visit. Money hungry? It's like you take 1 step forward and get knocked back 10 steps. Looking like October surgery. 11 months. Well, I can't do anything about it and had to vent.
