  1. Thank you everyone for your willingness to participate!!! It will take us a few weeks to get the survey ready and the approval from our faculty. I will post it as soon as I have it! Any time postop works for us! We would actually love to have a good variety of lengths of time post op.
  2. Hi everyone, Like many of you know I had my sleeve May 10th and now I am almost 3 weeks post op! I am also currently in school and I have to do a Master Project, I was going to do a systematic review on the effects of Ghrelin in seizures but a two weeks ago someone beat me to it! and now me and my co-investigator are looking for another topic. Since the sleeve is so dear and near to my heart (literally) we are thinking of doing a research project but that would mean I would need people who have had the sleeve to fill out a completely anonymous survey, the problem with this type of research is that often times people don't get enough surveys filled and the study falls thru. I want to see if there are some of you who would be willing to answer a few questions on an online questionnaire for my research? Things such as age, gender, BMI, weight, and some medical and other questions will be asked but no one will know who answered what. I can also post the results later for your viewing pleasure. If you would be willing to participate please just like my post or reply. Thank you so much!!!
  3. I live in fort worth but chose to go to Tijuana Mexico for my surgery. I used Dr. ponce DeLeon he is very experienced and all my cost including flight, tips, and stuff I bought was $6000
  4. Drink water, have healthier munching alternatives such as baby carrots. I had surgery two weeks ago, I am not hungry at all, it's hard to just get fluids in. god luck!
  5. My blog including my full surgery inside and out with Dr. Ponce De Leon is in my youtube channel my nick is BeautyVGSJourney
  6. I am two weeks post op and I would do it again, no hesitation. Yes complications are a real possibility, very unlikely but real. For me the pros far outweighed the cons and I had the surgery. I did all the research I could possibly do and had the best surgeon I could possibly find for myself, and continued doing research even to the morning of my surgery. When I went into that operation room I was 100% sure that this was what I wanted to do. It scared me to think I might have a complication and all of that but I know I had done my research well and had chose wisely. Good luck and hang in there. Do lots of research!
  7. I started driving about a week and a half post op. after surgery because of the lack of protein and food I felt a little weak and was afraid of driving, I did not feel safe to drive until then. Good luck!
  8. I am so sorry to hear about your struggle. I live in fort worth and there are many bariatric surgeons here, but I am not sure how much going to one would cost you. You should definitely try it. There is Dr. smith here in fort worth he had surgery himself (bypass) but seems like a very kind guy. I had surgery in Mexico so I could not say how good or bad local surgeons are. I know that some doctors think is safer to wait because everytime they go in and do something they are adding to the scar tissue and aggrivieting the problem, so for caution they do nothing. At the same token many of them in the USA are not very experienced in the sleeve, it's one main reason why I chose to go to Mexico. Good luck and keep us posted! I hope you feel better soon!!!
  9. I recommend at least two weeks off work post op, some people have gone back earlier but it all depends on the type of job and the person. I highly recommend a magic bullet or something like it. I love mine and the shakes that you make yourself taste better (in my opinion) if made on it than just mixed with a spoon. I also use it to blend soups and things, the first few beeks you will only be having liquids. A blender works too but I like the combinience of the small bullet. You will not be eating/drinking much at one time. I love my lunch crockpot kkeeps my soup hot while I eat it, I hate cold soup! It takes me anywhere from 30 minutes to one and a half hours to drink six ounces of soup! I am a little over two weeks post op! Good luck in your journey!
  10. I had surgery May 10 with Dr. Ponce De Leon. My whole experience including my surgery is on my YouTube videos you are welcome to watch them. I loved my experience and would highly recommend him and his team! Cost was $5500 plus flight cost, I spent less than $6000 total including souvenirs and tips. I chose Dr. Ponce because of his experience level, he has taught many surgeons such as Dr. Kelly and Dr. Almanza on doing the sleeve and has done surgeries in many surgeons, doctors and medical staff in Mexico. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Good luck in your journey!
  11. I would aim for surgery first week of june or right after the trip in July. You want to give your body every opportunity to heal.
  12. If that is shortly postop I don't recommend it! I too had surgery in mexico and the flying is not bad, but the following and chaperoning kids around will drain you. I am two weeks post op and I get very tired very fast just walking in the store for one hour drains me. If you are longer post op or pre op it should be ok, but if it's right after surgery the amount of fluids you can get in is very very limited. Good luck!
  13. Would you be driving? I had my surgery in Mexico. I was alone there, I did have a grea coordinator ad sleeve sisters bt I felt pretty well a couple of days post op. I was in the hospital two days then in a hotel two more days then I flew home. I felt pretty good but not good enough to drive drive for any amount of time. The lack of food scared me. If someone is driving you it would be nice to have some company for recovery specially in days that you are not feeling well and you might need some extra help. The drive should not be bad if someone else is driving, just make sure you stop at least every hour and walk around to prevent blood clots (it's what my surgeon suggested) and if possible wear some compression stockings. My worst fear as always been blood clots because they can kill you silently and fast! I made a YouTube video about preventing them. Good luck in your journey!
  14. Feel better soon! I am glad you went to the doctor. Take care of yourself
  15. I would definitely go to your pcp and get it checked out. It does look like strep and its better safe than sorry, you don't want an infection moving down specially since you are probably taking things to raise your stomach ph which bacteria loves. Strep and other bacteria and microbes live everywhere
  16. I had surgery with Dr Ponce De Leon in Tijuana May 10th. I felt safe at all times.
  17. Congratulations!!! Welcome to the losers bench!!!
  18. Congratulations to all of you quiters! I know is not easy, but you are loving yourself and becoming healthier even before loosing weight. Keep up the good work!
  19. Lentils and beans are also great protein sources for when you don't want meat, so it tuffu and other things.
  20. I am two weeks post op and if that is the worst I am looking forward to it!!! I am already a carnivore, I want this liquid diet to be over with already!
  21. Congratulations and welcome to the loosers bench! You will feel better in no time!
  22. I had surgery with Dr. Ponce De Leon also on May 10th. I loved my experience! Two of my sleeve sisters were from canada. He has a fabulous team! I have my journey including videos from surgery on YouTube if anyone's interested!
  23. I was also going to have the Lapband until I did tons of research and decided on the sleeve. I also have a friend who her mom and aunt had the band and her aunt almost died one year post op because her band corroded and she had to have an emergency surgery to remove it and repair the internal damage. I am two weeks post op in the sleeve and feeling great! Once you decide which to do also spend lots of time researching surgeons, they are as important as what procedure you have. Best of luck!
