jthurman reacted to MyGastricSleeveLife in Gaining Weight Rapidly!
Before surgery, I've seen my weight go up 5 lbs from one day to the next because of a high sodium day. Usually, if I drank Water & watched my sodium it would be back down those 5 lbs within a day or two. This is one reason I like to weigh myself daily because I use it as a learning tool to see how my body reacts to different foods and water intake & such. Even stress and poor sleep can influence weight. I don't stress over the numbers, but use it to learn more about my own body. Take it easy & don't stress over it. Just get back to basics & you'll lose it again quickly. :-)

6 weeks post opt on yesterday . I've lost a total of 35 pounds and I'm so happy. My Husband is so loving the new me! Talk about confidence I have it out this world. My sleeve had been great no problems, Nor complications. Anxious to loose 35 more.

I think people would say I am a risk taker, too. But when it came to post op eating, I was the opposite. Let's take a look at what has been done to us. We had 80-85% of our stomachs removed with a titanium staple line going from the top to bottom of our stomach ... no small scratch, there. This is our stomach. One of the most active organs in our bodies as it is the mechanical part of eating process. It secretes the acids and churns the food to get it into a paste to pass through the pyloric valve and down into your intestines for absorption.
Do I really want to hinder it's healing process? Is jumping ahead a week in my diet progression really worth it? I'm going to have this sleeve for the rest of my life and I want it to heal solid. I was not going to throw it curve balls.
Was I too passive ...? Perhaps. But now I am going on 11 months out and I can confidently eat anything. I am glad I did not try to test my staple line with advancing my diet too quickly. What's the point?

Buy ramen noodles and use the packet of seasoning to make broth. Just heat Water and add the packet. The only way I could have broth. (just throw the noodles away).

I think I'm more worried about the whole liquid thing on the airplane than anything!(Going to MX) How will I carry all my Shampoo, conditioner, face wash, body wash, face lotion, toothpaste, body lotion, etc. in ONE quart sized bag? I guess I need to be simple for a week but I feel so much better when I have all those things. I guess being overweight I pay alot of attention to my physical appearance and smells...lol! Any suggestions?
On a side not I have lost 24.5 pounds on the preop diet and haven't smoked since last Sunday!! So proud of myself...hehe!

I know right! Very few people in my life are ok with it! My mother in law refused to watch my son so my husband could go because we would get our heads cut off in Tijuana and my son would not have parents! It kinda irritates me that the people around me would think that I would do anything without extensive research and planning and would not make the right decision for myself and my family! This is a step in the right direction for all of us. I take that back...IT IS A HUGE LEAP! And yes I have gotten the "if you can lose 25 pounds on this preop diet just keep doing it and you can lose it all"! Yes I want to drink Clear liquids for the rest of my life... Until you are morbidly obese you can't judge us...Yes I did this to myself and I am doing something about! YEAH FOR ALL OF US!!!

Hey Ladies! i'm sleeved and well. My experience was simply amazing!!! No complications, nasuea, etc. Just a little fatigue. Dr. Garcia and his staff were so friendly and attentive. The put me at ease from the time I was picked up by the driver Samuel. This surgery was the best medical experience I have had in my life! I felt like a VIP. The care was so personalized. Dr. Garcia and his staff take pride in doing a job well down. My lab work, prep and procedure was very extensive. They want to make sure they are aware of any possible complications. Dr. Garcia took his time performing my sleeve. I was the only surgery that day. He even took a picture of my removed stomach and it looks lovely. lol I know that is weird to say but when you see my removed stomach you get an i sight into how professional he is. The sutures and staples were done with care and precision. I will post pictures soon. I have a slide show that I will assemble for you all to view. The anethesialogist, Dr. Cabera, was phenomenal. I was told he is the best in Tijuana and I believe it. He gave me lots of meds and I never felt sick, dizzy, etc. I work up from surgery two hours later feeling like my old self but better. I slept alot the first day but did get up and walk. The really stress the importance of walking. It helps remove the gas. The patient care coordinators and nurses constantly checked on me but allowed me to rest too. I highly recommend Dr. Garcia to eveyone! You will not be disappointed. My sister accompanied me and the patient coordinator Melissa gave my sister a goody bag with fruit and Snacks so she would have something to eat once the restuarant closed. They also gave me a bag with meds, gatorade, Water, gauze, tape, etc. I have a cd with the video from my upper g.i. test. I can swallow fine. The post-op hotel stay at the Marriott Tijuana was so luxurious! The bed was heaven and my sister loved the food. Plus, the hotel gave Dr. Garcia's patients 3 free bowls of chicken broth a day, 2 bottles of water and 2 popsicles. All complimentary!!! I could go on and on about how fabulous my experience was, I will just say... Go experience it for yourself!! Cheers

I would question the US doc about his experience. I would be concerned that he would trash another MD without checking him out. Dr. Aceves will not put a sleeve in you if he sees a problem with the band. Make sure you compare the two surgeons. The US has some pretty shaky surgeons as does Mexico. I wanted a surgeon who was experienced in band revisions. I am in the medical field and have never seen a cleaner hospital then in Mexico! Dr. Aceves doesn't pump you full of antibiotics like they do in the states. Why? because it is so clean and sterile! My daughter had a revision with Dr. Aceves and my sister had a virgin sleeve. So I have been there 3 times! I watched my sisters surgery, Dr. Aceves knows what he is doing. He does three leak tests one in the OR, one post-op and one before he will discharge you.

jthurman reacted to Forensikchic in 80 Pounds Down! New Pic!
I am 80 pounds down from surgery on 8-8-2011. My hubby took a pic of me this morning on my way to lecture at a local college. I dont usually dress fancy for work because of what I do, but since I was dressed up, I let him take my photo. I will include a before pic so you can appreciate the difference! The first two pics are from my trip to Brazil with my family in March of 2011. I was about 235 pounds then. I am 154 today, the last picture.
I am so excited to have made it this far. I am 9 pounds from having a normal BMI. I am still working my sleeve and trying. I am in a bit of a plateau right now and they seem to be coming closer and closer together, just like the surgeon said they would. I am 20 pounds from my personal goal. I felt so good in these clothes today. Size 10 banana Republic slacks and a size medium blouse. Yay me!

My name is Hutch - I have a tentative date of May 9th with Dr Aceeves in Mexi -Cali
I am a truck driver and struggle with weight loss so I have made the decision to be sleeved.
I am nervous but not scared. I have been 100 lbs overweight for the last 10 years and I have tried every diet imaginable - and they work for a minute and then fail. I have no one to blame but myself. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma and planter faciatias in my feet which causes me alot of pain. I hope and pray that after the surgery with time these conditions that I mention will go away.
I recently got married to a beautiful woman that was sleeved in Janurary,2010- and when she said that I needed to get a passport I thought she was excited about going on vacation but little did I know she had other plans - I am happy though because I feel that this is the best decision for me and for us to live a long and healthy life together.
If you all will join me in my upcoming journey I would greatly appreciate all of ur help and support.
    Thank you and God bless,
    Hutch
