  1. typo ... that should read...'' i dont know what my dr's opinion on it is...''
  2. i agree. i think its trial and error most of the time. i find that i can have an egg with a small half section of toasted wholemeal bread, if i take very small bites and chew well. other than that, i cant eat bread really. i havent discussed this with my dr. i know know what his opinion is on it all. i must say that i feel '' full'' after eating that half slice though. that with an egg keeps me goign all morning.
  3. hahaha... this is so true.. and what a great comparison, that im sure everyone can identify with.....hahhaha....
  4. Hang in there. your body has gone through trauma and it takes a few weeks to start recovering. i was the same, but by the end of the second week i was '' firing on all fours'' . lol. just listen to your body ... rest up, have your liquids as much as you can and time will take care of the rest. Believe me, you are through the worst of it.
  5. good on you Tina.. you have the right attitude towards your weight loss. Im trying not to be a slave to my scales as well. You are so right... it took many years to put the weight on, it wont disappear overnight . So no one mentioned to you about a hernia repair?? im sure that was an oversight... It seems that most people on here have had a repair. i knew that i needed one, even before i had the lapband op. i was getting bad with it. Im so much better now im fixed. You will find that you feel better im sure. Good luck with your weight loss... and you do have the right attitude.
  6. o.k... here is what i did to move my weight. at times Ive had no loss, so i vary the calorific intake every day. some days i may have about 200 more ..so thats about 1200.. other days i will have about 900.. im not counting but thats a general thing. I wasnt losing for a few weeks, now im losing quickly again. I think so long as you are mindful of the food you eat, no junk, that you could perhaps vary the amount of calories you are taking in. i wouldnt lose any weight if i were just having 1000 a day ... so im either side of it all the time.. some days more some days less. As far as the fill goes... its a breeze... trust me. It took about 3 seconds for my first fill and i honestly never felt a single thing. Dont worry about it. Good luck.
  7. what is MSM ?? that name does ring a bell with me but cant quite remember...
  8. this is interesting. i did wonder how long it would take for the pouch to empty into the big stomach. it makes a lot of sense.
  9. Try not to get too many expectations so soon. The main thing is to relearn all the right eating habits, and the type of foods. im sure your weight will come off soon enough. i try not to put too many expectations on my weight loss, so soon after being banded. ive been banded now 2 1/2 months. i have lost nearly 30 lbs. the main priority for me though is relearning how to eat with the band. i know my weight will come off soon enough.
  10. if you eat slower you give the food the time it needs to go down the esophagus into the pouch before swallowing more. Plus the fact that the slower you eat the more you chew. the pouch needs time to accomodate the food you are eating, its not like the old stomach was. Believe me, you will know when the pouch is full. lol. If you insist on eating quickly you will get numerous problems, one of them that you will get ''stuck'' which is not a pleasant experience. Eating quickly is one of the bad habits that we need to drop, and this is what having the band is all about. re educating how we eat.
  11. well.. i think the reason for not using straws is that we gulp wind as well and thats not good. The other thing.. bread. Ive been banded now for just over 2 months. Until the last three days Ive not had anything in the way of bread.. but on my first try yesterday i nearly got stuck. I had to walk away from it.(it was wholemeal bread). I had toasted it. This morning i tried another brand of bread, toasted ... it was wholemeal. i ate very small portions and chewed for ages. Even doing that the band was protesting and it still feels like a huge lump over an hour later. So, as far as im concerned, no bread. Im not sure why its such a hard food to eat. i know that i wont be bothering with it anymore.
  12. im post op only two months with my band, i just want to say, ive got two artificial knees and they are just marvellous. Dont stress about having it done. You will feel like a new person.
  13. you went back to work very early... what sort of job do you do? No... you wouldnt damage anything by sucking some peanut butter, im sure of that. Actually i dont think that there should be a limit on what you drink. Usually drs tell you to drink more than you can handle. if you arent having as much as you feel you need, have more fluids. more clear soups, tea, decaf coffee.... are you having Protein drinks yet?
  14. I know how you must be feeling.. but it is early days and you have just had major surgery. Before you know it your body will be hurting a lot less... the swelling will be going down again, and you will be feeling really happy about hte whole thing. i dont think there are many people here who didnt go through hard times after surgery, one way or another. The mental issues as well as the emotional ones as well. I had a really swollen section where my pouch is... its still a bit swollen after two months but goign down well. The pain will leave... if you have meds be diligent in taking them. its only temporary and it will help you adjust to the whole post op thing. WE will ask you how you feel in three months time... it will be quite a different story. Hang in there... one day at a time. I was banded on the 23rd march.
  15. i was banded in march and have lost about 30 lbs also.... im just so happy with the changes ive had already. my health has improved out of sight. Ive had one fill and another coming up on the 20th june.
  16. were you on liquids for a day or so?? that would slow you up.
  17. ..thanks for this. i did use some yesterday morning when i read your post. then.. would you believe... i was up half the night?? rofl. at least it worked !.. lol.
  18. i had huge feet with the extra weight. they were very painful as well. it was fluid, the dr tried to change my b/p meds with a diuretic added and it made me ill. so, i had to put up with my feet, which were really gross as well as being painful. i had lapband surgery and within a week the feet were back to their normal size, and looking better than they had for nearly 20 years. the pain has nearly gone as well. i hope this helps you. i dont know how much swelling in feet is due to fluid with everyone else but it was fluid with me.
  19. it sounds a bit painful..
  20. ...so its o.k. to use psyllium husk?
  21. it varies with everyone. i had the same issues, and two months on ive still got the same issues. my gut hasnt responded all that kindly to the massive change in diet.. the amount i eat plus what im eating. Im still having to use suppositaries and take tablets. i dont like doing it but i cant see how i can avoid it. i know that drinking heaps of water helps a lot. especially with high protein in our diets, we need more liquid. apart from that i dont know what else to be honest. if you are getting concerned about the time lapse, i would talk with a pharmacist. he would help you im sure.
  22. i know how hard it is to get established with new eating habits. Im sure that you, like me, are getting there. WE cant expect a lifetime of eating habits to be completely conquered in such a short time... i know that its taking time with me. i guess im still in the early days of understanding the unique way my body is working now, as well as persevering with eating smaller bites and being a lot slower. one of the reasons i have issues with food getting stuck is that im eating too quickly. Apart from that, when i eat fish i just cant seem to process it through the pouch... so its really painful and not nice at all. All of this in just two months? lol. a steep learning curve for me... and im sure for you as well. IM due for my second fill on the 20th june. this is going to be interesting for me. I have much the same issues as you. But, having said all this, we will get there eventually. good luck.
  23. i dont have to wait 30 minutes to know im stuck. but, probably about ten minutes . it feels like the food is churning around, just like a washing machine, and it tends to come back up the esophagus. thats when i gulp, trying to get it to settle. i take in air when i do this and it makes things worse. it feels painful, and i can feel every spasm of the pouch as it tries to empty. ive had quite a few episodes of PBs. two of vomiting. not nice.(it helps when i can burp )i know when ive had enough top eat because the pain in my shoulder and neck .. left hand side, comes on. Im still battling with eating too much on my spoon, eating too quickly sometimes and i suspect i need to eat even less than now. at the moment im having about a cup full of food per meal.
