phatkatblue reacted to SageTracey in Nsv - Surgeon Didn't Recognise Me!
I saw my surgeon for a follow up and fill tonight. I was the only one in the waiting room when he came out and called me name, then looked around for me. "Oh, I didn't recognise you!" he said, "You look great!"
Needless to say I was pretty pumped by that, but then he mentioned his information seminars and said I would be a model patient to speak at them.
And then when I went out to reception, his receptionist pointed out that he hadn't recognised me!
He also remembered that I had my son's wedding and was pleased that I had brought photos in to show him. (I've tried to attach a pic, so hope that it works.)
Only small negative of the appointment was that my port may have partially flipped. He was able to get the fill in (two jabs, ouch!) but warned that it may flip completely, even though it was both stitched and mechanically attached. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen!

July 1, 2010, I started a journey that changed the direction for the rest of my life. I started my journey with a diagnosis of Lupus. I was borderline diabetic and hypertensive. It hurt to walk and my lower back constantly ached, I had several injections in my back trying to cope with the pain. I took about 15 different medications to maintain a functional life. I weighed 273 lbs and a year later, I weighed 167 lbs. Resulting in a loss of 107 lbs, a loss of 12 sizes in clothing and a whole new life. My insurance plan had no bariatric benefits. However, the cost was minimal to the savings of my health & life today. I am currently only taking my synthroid for hypothyroidism and a Multi-Vitamin which, has saved thousands of dollars on medication I no longer have to take.
I will never forget the words my oldest daughter recently said to me when we were taking my 9 month old grandson to the beach. She hadn’t seen me in a bathing suit in quite some time and when she opened the door, she said, “Wow, mom you look hot”. 40 year old grandma looking hot! That is what I’m talking about. More importantly, I will be alive and healthy to see my children graduate from college and my grandson grow up. Prior to my lap band surgery, I wasn’t sure I would make it through the Lupus. I have inspired many in their journey of weight loss and plan to continue to help change the lives of those who need help to get healthy again. The lap band is merely a tool to help us manage the food intake, but it is a tool that will help change the lives of many in this obese world we live in.
I owe Dr. Huguet and Allergan for saving my life. I know that this has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. My husband has since lost 40 lbs, my daughter goes to the gym now a couple times a week and I recently walked my first 5k for Breast Cancer. I intend on changing the world and it begins with the Lap band.

That was happening to me in the mornings after I had a cold or it may have just been post nasal drip from during the night. I would take a teaspoon of Mucinex and that seemed to help me. Hope you feel better soon.

I went for my pre-opt with the surgeon. He does a small group first to discuss the process and then meets individually with all the patients. While in the group meeting, I heard someone call out another patient. I heard the name and it flagged an old memory. I looked down the table and saw my very best friend from middle school. I have not seen her in 15 years. We began to cry and are so excited to share this journey with a friend. It is so crazy we crossed paths again. We each moved long away from out home town and had different paths. We found out we each had two children the same ages. We have supportive hubbies regarding the surgery! We are so excited. We are scheduled the SAME DAY for surgery!
Now I have all of my LBT buddies and a old friend. I think I was meant to cross paths with her again. Some of my foundest childhood memories are with that girl!
    Just had to share....

I'm choosing not to tell people about my surgery (except my dad and 1 friend). I've found so many people refer to WLS as a quick fix. We all know that's not true, but even when I hear my friends say things like this it makes me upset. I don't need to justify my decision to anyone. I think they're all jealous!

I'm still pre-band, but I'm getting a fair amount of...I guess judgement? from people. It's not necessarily mean, but I've heard from almost everyone "why do you want to have THAT?!". It's so easy for people to suggest diet and exercise. That plan doesn't work for everyone. Even the psychologist during my psych eval said that I didn't strike her as someone who would need to have this surgery (I'm 235 lbs on avg). I thought she may be the crazy one.
The bottom line is, I want to have it done and feel like it's my best option to be successful in weight loss. Nobody else has to wake up and fall asleep in my skin. Everyone else's opinions are just that - their opinions.

Checking in at 201!!! 2 pounds to go....as long as I'm 199 when I step on the cruise ship next friday I'm good with it!!haha
NSV----My daughter and I went shopping yesterday for cruise clothes. I grabbed a pair of capris and she met me at the dressing room to "approve" she saw the capris in my hand and said "I just put those back, they were to small for me...you might want a bigger size"....I thought well I will give them a try, just to see how much bigger I needed. BUT THEY FIT!! They actully FIT! they were size 14!! they were slightly (and I mean slightly snug) but nothing 2 or 3 pounds won't take take of!!
I don't think my daughter was as excited as me........the shopping trip was now over.---I hated it for her, but I have worked my butt off these last few months!!!
But on the other hand, she is very competitive and couldn't stand me being smaller than her.....first thing this morning she was on the treadmill.---I hope she continues....I worry about her so much. I think my enthusiasm is wearing off or her. She sees how much better I feel.

I broke the sound barrier, if you will, in the world of WLS! I hit 199! AND on my 3 month bandiversary!!! It feels so good to look down at the scale and see that. Of course, I took a picture of it so I can be reminded how good it feels but really don't need the picture as it just feels so good every day when I wake up and feel good mentally & physically. My confidence level is soaring {but not cocky :-) }which was a major component on deciding on the lapband as well as the physical side of it. Having more energy to do things, being positive, changing my old habits that got me to where I was is just part of this process. I still have a ways to go and that's ok. It'll give me more time to utilize the tools given to me through the band and through this wonderful website as well as looking towards the future when I hit my goal and deal with the fact of maintaining, another major factor in this process. Being addicted to food is a life time problem for me so I know when I hit my goal, it isn't over., it's for life. It ain't over until the fat lady sings and I am 95 and still living la vida loco! It is a team effort. As well as the support from this forum in general, the major support comes from "my" January Bandsters. I love you guys, through thick and thin, no pun intended! LOL
Now, the major thought here, it's Friday, the weekend is coming up, we're having a family farewell early Cinco de mayo party with tapas, etc. Will I be able to sustain the 199 on the scale by Monday morning? I'm not going to think about it, I feel great today, and I have the picture to prove it even if it's just for today!!!

Jenelle1434, I think a lot of people have this problem but don't realize it. They keep cutting more calories or increasing Protein but still don't lose because they're too afraid to increase calories.
I did the same thing, btw. I was eating about 1000 calories a day, increased to 1100-1200 daily, and have lost another 23 pounds in the past month.

So... I have found that the old saying is true... you must EAT to LOSE. I was banded back on March 15th and got my first fill about 2.5 weeks ago. Even though I do not have much restriction still, I have been eating like I do. I was only taking in about 800-900 calories a day.....BUT I WAS LOSING NOTHING!! I figured I would TRY uping my calorie intake to see if that would help. I could not beleive the difference!!! I am now eating about 1100-1200 calories a day and I dropping weight like crazy AND im not hungry all day long. I guess I just had to see it to beleive it!
What I learned: Don't be afraid to eat, just make the right choices when you do

I have told everyone except for my hubby's mom, and 2 sisters and their families. I had my surgery more than a year ago, saw them at Christmas 75 pounds down and the only one who said anything was my MIL about 3 hours after we first got there! All I said is that I watch my calories, get my Protein in, and exercise. Which is what I do, with a little help from the band!

So I got my first fill yesterday of 3cc. liquids yesterday and could advance to solids today. I was only able to eat about 5 bites of my super yummy salad a moment ago at lunch.
I was surprised it happened so quickly, but I got a full feeling in my chest and had read enough here to know to stop eating. I know that it will probably take more fills but I am excited today to at least be on my way!!!!!
