22 lbs is awesome! you are right though, you and only you can make this decision. my husband is a weight loss machine when he puts his mind to it. two summers ago he lost 60 lbs, that's right 60 by exercising and changing his eating habits...he gained it all back plus 20-30 more over the winter...last summer we started attending these wls seminars together and he told he was definitely getting the band. he was more sure than i was with my co-morbidities and threats from my pcp that my insulin and syringes were waiting for me at the next doctor visit if i hadn't lost weight...i was puzzled because he has always been able to lose weight easliy. he told me it was the maintenance piece that he felt would be helpful with a tool. he got banded earlier this week and although he did not have to do a pre-op diet he lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks prior to his surgery...none of his health care professionals questioned his decision to go through with the surgery and he feels that he made the right decision...

You are doing great lady!! You and I are running right together and 12 pounds is awesome!! I have found for me when I get to feeling a bit run down or my head is hurting, it is usually one of two things. I have forgotten to take my vitamins, I take calcium and a multi twice a day. Or I have let too much time go by without eating. For me I have to remember to eat. Congrats to your hubby and welcome him to bandland for us!

Well I am five weeks out and have lost 22 lbs, I am not scheduled for my first fill until April 16th! BeckyP I am like you I am hungry too and feel like I could eat more, but have been really sticking to the smaller portions and started to become more active since healing. Been interesting in our house because I had by surgery and my husband is now two weeks out from his gastric bypass surgery.

I am 4 weeks out of surgery... mild discomfort at the incision where the port is embedded. my fill is scheduled for march 22 . I weighed 197 pounds ( I am 5'3") when this process all began. Lost 9 pounds prior to surgery, and now I weighed in at 174 this morning. my goal is 137 and if this keeps up.. i'll reach my goal before the lap band even has a chance to work....(wishful thinking.. a girl can dream)...so far, without any fill.. the band is basically there.. but has no effect at all on me, my appetite, my food choices or indeed my life. I keep thinking of all the money I spent to install this little contraption...I sure hope fills are meaningful events in a lapbanders life.. cause every day i feel better, the hungrier I get... when i show up for my fill appointment I may have to not only get some descent ccs put in.. but i might have to get my mouth wired shut too.... it continues to be a struggle....

Hi there,
We have several things in common. The burping for me is as my husband refers to it "That sound" ....trust me it is one end or the other all the time. Now it is just plain funny.....I am 7 weeks post surgery and have lost 32.
I weighed 235 when I started and am hoping to be out of the 200's by next week. I have had 2 fills on my band and don't think either was the right amount. I am still hungry and can eat almost anything. I don't do it but I could. I go back in a couple of weeks and plan on telling the Dr. I would like to not be hungry. They said it is a trial and error thing. I hope so.
I too have the pain in my incision. It is very tender and plan on finding out about that as well. Hang in there. I have found that I may not lose anything for several days and then will start dropping several real close together.
GOOD LUCK

In pre-op wearing my designer gown! Had my I'VE antibiotic and weigh in I love this scale down 10 lbs in a week . I think they make these gowns so big to make people feel better about themselves! The staff here at Richardson Surgery Center are great . See you on the other side folks

great post! i have been doing an internship with substance abuse addicts for the past 6 months and realized i had so much in common with them in my relationship with food. i was shocked and amazed. i am one of those bandies who has been shouting from the mountaintops about my wls and have found that most people do think it is an easy way out...although i am barely 3 weeks banded i am here to say that i have never worked so hard for something in my life!

congrats to you on your decision to take this journey. i was also approved by my insurance for this surgery which i successfully had performed on 2-15. it was a process and there were times when i felt lost as well, but it all pays off in the end. i had a to have a year of weight history from my primary care physician, a psyche eval, 3 months of nutrition and exercise testing with a pre and post fitness eval, and my husband who will be banded on 3-13 also had to have a sleep apnea test. i was an easy approval as i have diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea. my insurance company fully pays for all of my diabetes meds and supplies and sleep apnea equipment so i am sure they were glad to approve my surgery! good luck to you on your journey and please keep us posted.
