  1. Hi Everyone, I was wondering what a resting metabolic rate was and how they measure it. So Denise822 could you enlighten me and tell me how yours went? Best wishes, Michelle
  2. Okay - so the naked :behindsofa:truth was I weighed 202.8 this am. But dare I hope? My official weigh in on Monday with workout clothes, perhaps shorts instead of pants??? Nay, just the same old. I can do this. :whoo:I deserve a healthy life. I will be in the 100's within the next two weeks. I can smell it.............. Love you guys........
  3. Thanks for the support Dwarden - but the "official" thing helps me stay honest, which has been a problem in the past for me. Pretending I was doing better than I was. Holding the wall, so I don't weigh as much. I hope I have grown up from that point - but I have organized a place where I officially weigh in before I exercise (so I am wearing the same clothes - sans shoes) each week on Monday morning. Kinda like a big girl. Obviously my weight has been a lifelong issue. chuckles.... Michelle
  4. Gosh _ posted this morning and then come back to find three more pages of important stuff to catch up on. TerriDoodle - I like your questions about acid reflux. I am burping more now since banding, does that indicate it? Kat - you are an inspiration, I can understand how the last 35 aren't as big an issue, your BMI is so much better, you look and move better - maybe a goal to see the weight gone during the next year is more reasonable, especially going through the emotionally difficult stuff with your man. Hugs!! Lauraj23 - I hate when the medical community starts up with the nickel and diming thing. My doc said without insurance he can do the surgery and everything for $10000, with insurance the rates go up to around $30000. Our system is crazy. Good for you fighting for your rights - and a good reminder to make sure everyone checks those bills. TracyInks - what a heart. You are a beautiful person to put yourself in someone else's shoes. I liked the Pay it Forward Sista! Hugs to all you Violets out there - enjoy your day, Michelle
  5. I had my official weigh-in on Monday morning I weighed 207, at home this morning I was 203 (before clothes and food). So I am slowly winding down to the magical number 199. I lost 2 3/4 pounds last week, so I have to believe I am on the right path. Thanks for the description Dwarden. Sorry you had to go through that. Good luck to the rest of you on the journey to ONDERLAND!
  6. Kat - thanks for the info. I think I will try and switch the training session to either the morning or to Friday. I am not concerned with on the tummy exercises, don't do those, I am concerned with being able to hydrate enough to workout hard. After this first fill then I will see how I react. You sound like it is great fun. I like the whole diversion thing you do. Good luck with your hubby. Tekymom - sorry about the port incision. That ususally happens to me, but I was fortunate that I wasn't allergic or reactive to the glue the doc used. In fact many other surgeries I have had to have wound care nursing. Good luck with the healing. Have a great night all you beautiful violets! Michelle
  7. Laura - what an exciting journey you and a house. Wow! You will be so proud of both. You are young and beautiful. Best wishes! I weighed in today and am at 207. I lost 2 3/4 pounds last week. I think that is a decent loss. My desire is to see it immediately gone. But I am making other short term goals, like working out 5 times this week. So far, I have gone to the gym two days. I have a question for people who have had a fill - does it knock you over or could I have a scheduled appt with my trainer in the afternoon of the fill? I'm clueless. Christy - good going on the weight loss. So sorry to hear about your father-in-law. It is upsetting to watch another's decline. Hugs amd a prayer for him. Teach lady - you are doing really well in the weight loss area. I have now officially lost 19 pounds and working hard at it. I thought it would be faster, but on the upside, maybe my skin will adjust and I won't need the TT surgery. Hugs and all the best to the Violets, Michelle
  8. Best wishes Crabcake and Shar! This is a great place to get advice from middle bandsters. I am losing slowly too. I am going to get a fill on the 17th. But I don't think that I am eating many calories and I exercise too. I do have Type II diabetes and take meds for it. I was hoping that getting the weight off will help. Hugs and good luck! Michelle
  9. dwarden - how did you know your port was flipped? What were the symptoms? I am impressed that you are back on your feet and thinking about coffee. Best wishes,
  10. Teach lady - I can really relate. Habits from the past ooze when I don't think about it. I have found eating has to be a conscious act. Sitting, chewing............, swallowing. None of the the grab and swallow of the past. Amazing and a good thing. Think how many times the bread was passed and you took, what a habit to break. Altho' I think that it won't hurt you if you chew, chew, chew...... I still can't get over snarfing Costco Chicken that I had smelled all the way home. Wolf. Pow! Golfball to beat the band. No barfing as of yet, but the golfball and fizzy saliva are plenty indicators that encourage me to RETRAIN my brain (notice what's in caps). I also am not losing. Tomorrow is the official weigh in day for me. I was hoping for more movement, but will settle for not gaining. I look better anyway. Hugs and have a great Sunday, Michelle
  11. I just caught up on some reading and find it so interesting that besides being banded we are all involved in REAL LIFE. Birthdays, friendships, marriages, losses, all causing happiness, stresses, etc. I raised two adopted boys alone after my husband died and felt so alone with the decisions. It is wonderful that this thread supports each of us and our needs. Jennifur - I just know that this will work out one way or another. Things always do. I had to figure out that I had to pick my battles. I couldn't do it all, and sometimes I didn't look as "good" as the other mothers, but my boys at 19 are independent, helpful and very grateful for what they did have. So, I guess it was good enough. Hope that bit helps. I know you will do it right for your girl. As far a friendship goes, sometimes my friends need a lot, but if it becomes a one way road and I don't feel an exchange of support, it isn't healthy for me so I pull back and see if things balance out. Hope that helps a bit. Best wishes to you all,
  12. Good Late Afternoon Violets - It's raining in the Rockies. They said the mountains could have snow on Monday. Lunasa - I think you have a good point about being positive. I also think some venting is inevitable, because in the process of change there is some discomfort. I want to be here for all Violets and support whatever emotions come up. Now whining and self-pity can only be tolerated briefly. I also think wholesale saying the band doesn't work - isn't effective or accurate. However, I think people going through the process have thoughts like, "Is this going to work? I'm worried about this working for me?" Those are real and it's good they get some air time. What do you Violets think? I love the idea of aroma and calming. I also use music and deep breathing to calm down. Hugs and good Fridays to all of you,
  13. I just reread the postings and Connie said a weekend would be better for her. Sounds great to me. I am flexible as I am retired. Lucky me. So how about Saturday or Sunday? What is central? How about a place like Red Robin? There is one right off Arapahoe Road and I25. I know we have people coming from Fort Collins (Collector) and from Pueblo (Dakota and Connie). Maybe Castle Rock would be more central? Ideas anyone. Have a great day and good weekend!
  14. Kim2bHealthy - Wow! You have done such a great job losing. What is your daily food outline? How have you lost sooooooo much? I appreciate the info about the band. I think I will go ahead with the fill. I don't seem to be losing and I'm not eating that much between 1000 - 1100 cal per day with 50-60 grams of protein. I know I can do this. We can do this! We are doing this! Positive thinking helps me. Michelle
  15. Hi Violets! We are having blustery spring storms here. They predict snow in the mountains this weekend. But it will be hot again next week. Crazy. I had a fine day. Worked out with a 40 minute medium aerobic, then another 30 min. of work with the trainer. I felt better than when I worked out on Tuesday. I was pooped. I will be three weeks out of surgery on Monday. I want to exercise a minimum of five days a week. I know I can do it, just get on the clothes, and go to the gym. I put on my headphones, have a book to read, and start working the EFX machine. I really try to zone out, the first and last 8 minutes seem the hardest. Well, I'm pooped. Have a great tomorrow! Cheers - we are doing it!!!
  16. Second week of June, how about a Wednesday or Thursday night? My two cents. You are doing wonderfully, I eat similarlly but I will need to kick it up at the gym. I am doing 40 minutes cardio, but only 3 - 4 days a week. I think 5 or 6 would help my metabolism. Hugs and enjoy the spring storms!
  17. Lunasa - you have amazing insight. I'll give you the Oscar. You are so right about us actresses. But also the world is acting and we have to remember that. I sometimes need a kick when I get negative. It is partly that if I hate myself then others won't be able to hate me more. Crazy thinking! I am delighted with my band and the difference it makes for me. I can do this. I can learn to identify my feelings, label them and cope without turning to food for solace. I want to really feel not numb out any more with food. It was a great coping strategy growing up, but now at 57, come on. It's ok if I cry or if I am angry, I'll survive. I can do this! That is my new mantra. A belief that this is doable and I can make it happen. Sara Mos - ok, I will give up on the rice, I just wanted to try it with the peanut sauce, I certainly didn't NEED it. So it's gone with the other "white" stuff like bread, cereal, etc. It is funny how different days different things hit me. Hugs to you all and WE ALL CAN DO THIS - WE DESERVE TO BE HEALTHY! Michelle
  18. Hi! I had a strange day - good but strange. I worked out really hard yesterday and took it easy today. i took my vitamins and pills on an empty stomach, so felt yucky because I had to delay breakfast an hour and a half. So then an egg, 1/2 c beans and cheese. Very full. Two bites of hamburger patty at 2 and the dog climbed up on the chair and ate the rest when I was in the bathroom. I didn't care. I went to dinner with a friend. We ate Thai food. Edamame, then peanut sauce chicken. I ate five bites of chicken chewed to a pulp, a few bits of veggies, then two small bits of brown rice. That was it, the golfball was in the throat and the dinner over. Nice leftovers. I did get a protein shake down three hours later. So, I think my band is working again. I wonder if working out activated it, or moved it to a more sensitive spot. Because, yes Houston, THERE IS RESTRICTION! I love my band and know I can do this. Keep saying that and you can. Hugs, Michelle
  19. Chica Chula - I feel like a golfball is in my throat, there is some gurgling, burping and FOR SURE I know not to put anything else in. Yucky feeling! I had two bites of brown rice, really chewing and blam - that was the end of my Thai chicken with peanut sauce dinner. I was lucky that I slowly ate some chicken first. I packed 3/4 of the dinner up and that was all she had for dinner. Two hours later I had a protein shake. I know I will lose weight if I feel like this. Michelle
  20. Fluffernutter - good going riding the bike. Where do you live? Are your days nice and warm? I was amazed that the restriction I thought I didn't have, I do today. Very small amounts are satisfying. I wonder if the band is going to work on its own. I am supposed to get a fill on the 17th, but if I feel like I did today, it isn't necessary. I hope to see some reduction on the scale tomorrow, but it will only be official Monday at my weigh in. Hugs and happy May to you all. Perhaps we'll all be in Onederland by July 4th! Michelle
  21. SHRINK'N VIOLETS Well - I am scheduled for the 17th of May to get a fill. I wonder if I need it, as now I am feeling restriction. I don't want to choke like I've read about. At least my doc's in town. About the libido - All you vamps out there - I wish I had a DH, mine died six and a half years ago. Whenever I lose weight there is a naughty naughty woman underneath, so I hope I can find a great guy to have a good time with. Can't say much about the cabbage. The weight definitely affects my self concept, even though I was in denial how fat I am, now I am loving my shrinking roundness. Every fat cell worth. Well see if this 57 year old body has any sex drive left. Chuckles from Colorado - windy and gorgeous, Michelle
  22. I weighed on the digital scale this am and I weighed 205 - OMG, but it isn't official. So on Monday, my official weigh in day we'll see where I'm at. This is so fun, sharing it with all of you. I'm with AMRDMR saying that 199 isn't solid enough ground for me. Been there, done that, and went right back up. So I think I may add another 9 pounds to my ticker so it will track that loss. I was even at 187 last year on Slim 4 Life, but without the band, I went right back up. So old pain lies in these pounds, but what a triumph to wade through them!!! The battle of the bulge is ON! Wow, today with all these war analogies this makes me the Onederland Warrior. Just kidding. But it feels like that sometimes. Hugs and best wishes, every day is another chance to honor my choices, Michelle
  23. Connie - you are doing so well losing weight. What is a regular day of food look like for you? I am struggling to find the right balance food wise. The second week in June sounds great to me. Do we want to meet at a restaurant or a park or at my house? Dyna aka Michelle
  24. Well - it is clouding up in the Rocky Mountains, April showers? Lots of time that means hail. If it hails really hard, I might get a new roof??? Anyway, it has been a good day. The headwork of weight loss seems overwhelming at times. The band sets up a psychological confrontation with what made me fat. what a struggle, but I'm worth it. Hugs all,
  25. Welcome from one michelle731 to another - actually I am DynamoMini in my bandster life! Well, I hope we are able to forward to everyone on this thread if we change it. Whatever, I just want to be in on it. This is such a lively thread. About post surgery diets, my doc didn't think I needed to stay on liquids or mushies past the first week, so I am on regular food already and I don't think there is a problem. I wasn't feeling restriction, but today when I controlled my pace and was eating better than yesterday, I was full quickly like on 1/2 salmon patty. Chew....chew....chew..... so different strokes for different folks, whatever. I added the second ticker to show the last 10 to Onederland. Anyone want to cross that border with me? It has been a struggle in the past. Hugs and kisses (I feel smoochie) Michelle
