Difficult question to ask.
The duodenal switch ( the sleeve + a intestinal bypass) does make smelly gas and bathroom problems if the person eats a lot of fat. I have know a few people with that surgery. The sleeve itself does not cause the same issues. I have had mine since 6/26 and no problems. I asked my doc before I had my surgery because I did not want those problems. He said it was the bypass part not the sleeve that was the cause.

Mindful Eating
That's one of my biggest fears that I would forget and take too big of a bite, not chewing properly! It's probably one really big reason I'll hold off on alcohol....potential for forgetfulness and hunger. Bad combination. As I have been feeling more normal it is easier to forget about "mindful eating". Thanks fot the reminder!

Can't sleep
Thanks for the input! I am working out at night so that could be an issue. I am trying the protein before bed and that is helping. I have been sleeping a little bit better.

june 3rd sleevers
Hi I am June 26 and I also had some anxiety. My doc gave me ativan (30 tabs)in preparation for post op weeks. He said that it was for anxiety. I thought that was odd because I'm not usually anxious. It was very helpful the first month with sleeping and anxious moments that did occur. They are no longer needed. As I heal and feel stronger and I am able to help myself relax and not stress. I am not sleeping as well as I have in the past. Either I can't fall asleep or can't sleep in as long as my body wishes. I read something about hormones being relased as fat burns that affects sleep patterns. All in all, if I take care of myself, eat well and drink lots of water I feel better than I have in years! Excercise has really helped too. I do pool aerobic/excercise 3 X a week. Also a funny thing about stressing over wieht loss...I kept thinking I was behind for my 3 month goal (what the doc estimated) ,feeling bad and wondering what I could do different in the next 3 weeks. After running it through my mind several times I realized the 26th of August is only 2 months not 3 months. Our minds can be our worst enemy at times ! Everything is going just fine and again I am so much better than in years! Hang in their and appreciate the baby steps...each one counts and we're going in the right direction!

Dry mouth
I keep a water bottle by night table too.My mouth gets so parched. Everytime I get up to use bathroom I take a few swigs. I finish the water first thing in the morning. Hydration is probably the most import aspect of my new life. Today I woke up wth a headache and i think it is due to travel yesterday and getting off track with my water intake. Not feeling a need to take medicine where in the past I would have loaded up with Ibuprofen. Trying to catch up today with fluids! As much as I hate having a headache I am really enjoying understanding my metabolism better ....I know now that I had little to no understanding of my old body and it's needs. It's never too late to learn

Am I The Only One?
Hi I am 56 and sleeved 6/26/13. So far lost 24 lbs and feeling pretty well. I felt like I had to decide to sleeve or not at this point in life. I am grateful I did it. Already clothes are fitting so much better and I am more comfortable in general. Still getting the hang of eating and have become so aware of how the little cheats on my past diets were causing me to fail.

Can't sleep
I am 4 weeks today. I am really tired at bed time but am not sleeping well. I was sleeping restlessly and waking up thirsty so I made sure to have plenty of Water in the evening and a little Protein. I am exercising and was hoping it would help relax me. If I fall asleep I wake up about 2:30 -3:00 and toss and turn. I have to get up at 5 for work so I am so tired. Is this part of vsg or am I just having insomnia? What's okay to take? I usually take benedryl for sleep problems but worried it would add to dehydration.

Sickieeee :(
Drink, drink, drink. It is possibly dehydration. It is more important to drink than eat. While your body breaks down all the fat your metabolism needs more water/fluid than you might normally have needed in the past. If I can tell I'm thirsty (that's late) I start to catch up as quick as I can. Mostly I try not to let it happen. Once you're hydrated you may feel like eating. Don't drink while eating , for me not for 1/2 hour before and after eating. I hope you feel better soon!

Feeling Physically drained everyday
Hi , I am just 4 weeks and am starting to feel pretty good. The first 3 weeks I concentrated on just me, what I ate, how much water I drank and lots of rest. My family took over on the house, cooking and shopping, etc. the benefits of grown kids and helpful husband. I planned to go Back to work in just 10 days .That did not/ could not happen. I underestimated the surgery . I needed more rest and to get a handle of my daily schedule. There is no rushing It is a major surgery. I went back at 3 weeks ( still probably a little too soon for me). It is going pretty well. I can work 8 hours and do a little after work. Tonight swimming. Everyday is better. I overdid it last Monday and had to call in sick the next day. Listen to your body...not others, we are each different, and you will do fine. Good luck, you'll do great!

How do you prepare your Unjury Chicken Soup?
I just ordered the sampler with chicken soup, hot chocolate and vanilla. It includes a thermometer(they say not to overheat or it will clump) and a small tupperware for mixing. It should be here soon! I recieved the chicken soup as a sample and really liked it.

3rd day post op.....taking 4 hours to drink 11 ounces
My doc said to use a shot glass a have 1 ounce every ten minutes for 10 hours of the day. That would leave 14 hours for sleep and excercise or other activities. It really helped me not to get behind in my water and shake drinking.

Hey June 25 Sleevers
Hi my date was 6/26. I went back to work yesterday. I probably overdid it a bit after being gone for nearly 3 weeks. This morning was hard to get going at 5am. I don't have any real pain just tenderness and a little bit of indigestion. It was hard getting all my water and protein in at work and this morning was the first day the scale did not go down...so far I have lost 20 lbs. (not counting losing the 8 lbs I gained the fluids in the hospital) I had anxieties the first week but those seem to have passed. I am just trying to continuing eating, drinking, moving and resting...not skipping any of the steps

Just a question.
I was sleeved 6/26 and I am going back Monday 7/15. I had planned sooner but I was still pretty fatigued. I had no complications but just needed adjustment time. Now I am also 56 and age might play a big factor.

Approved on appeal?
Blue Cross Anthem -I was denied due to one random lower weight on first appointment. I re weighed at local dr office , had that weight and history of previous higher weight from prior check ups sent to vsg dr. He did Peer to Peer appeal and I was approved in days. Had my surgery 10 days later.

Isopure Green Tea
A friend told me to try Isopure as an alternative to protein shakes. I ordered Green Tea lemon flavored. In reading the label every thing looked good, gluten free, aspartame free, preservative free, has full dose of antioxidents, etc. until in small print it said "serious jolt of caffeine"Everything else is natural and seemingly healthy.I'm bummed. I drank half of one before I saw the fine print. I guess I'll drink extra water and hope to sleep tonight. Do all ther products have caffeine? It wasn't apparent on Amazon when I ordered.
