KhadijahRose reacted to kmwheel in Jealous Friends
I had the same thing happen where I was "outed" to a stranger (waitress) by a friend. I just gently remind them that it's my story to tell and I get to choose where and when. She probably is proud, and/or not really thinking. I think jealousy can be an issue, too. I've been really lucky with my friends...they all seem genuinely happy for me, but I also rarely even talk about my weight loss or other issues...good or bad. I'm just trying to be as "normal" as possible out in the world.
I can still remember, though, going out dancing with a friend (back in the olden days) and there was a hot guy who would not leave me alone. She seemed pretty pissy about it, and on the way home said, "I guess he just likes BIGGER girls." That was definitely not something a friend would say. I could have gone on and on that maybe he liked girls who were pretty, nice, had a great personality...etc., but the truth is, heavy or skinny, we all have our insecurity demons...and I'd much rather have mine than somebody else's!

25,000 all in. Surgery, pre op and post op. I am using my bonus from last year to pay. Ironically I work for Kaiser Permanente but they won't pay as I don't meet their requirements. So I find it amusing that I am using their money to do it!

KhadijahRose reacted to JimR915 in Feeling So Depressed, I Can Barely Function
I didn't experience this myself, but anesthesia can do funny things to your body....I wouldn't discount it as a cause.
But if you are that depressed, you really need to get back to see your doctor.....immediately. Anesthesia may be the cause, but only he can confirm that diagnosis and help you to correct it.
Please call your doctor!
All the best!!

KhadijahRose reacted to Rockin' Robyn in Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!
Hi Everyone-
It has been on my mind lately to start a new post as a positive, motivational, and inspiring thread. I have noticed several threads lately where those considering surgery are asking if it is 'possible' to lose 100 pounds with the band. My answer to that is...Yes, it definitely is. Many say it is not realistic. But I have watched the amazing progress of LBT members on the board, and believe it is not only realistic, it is happening to many of our LBT members all around us. And for those that aren't quite there yet, many members are extremely close. As time goes by with lapband increasing in popularity and the number of LBT members growing everyday, I believe the list is only going to increase by leaps and bounds.
Any and all weight loss is a huge accomplishment for us all. While I realize that many members don't need to lose 100 pounds or more, many do. And for those who do, it offers not only motivation to see that other bandsters have done it...but most importantly it offers the hope that it can be done with the band!
This will be a running thread to offer positive motivation, inspiration, hope, and encouragement. Please PM me or post here to have your name added to the growing list when you hit 100 pounds lost, or if you want your amount lost updated. Congratulations to everyone on any and all weight loss!

KhadijahRose reacted to Dave_NW in Annoyed With Predicted Total Weight Loss By Lap Band Surgeon
Check your math. 204 minus 40 pounds is 164, not 174. However: My surgeon's team said I should expect to only lose about about 50 pounds. I said Ok, but then proceeded to lose 125. In less than a year. And now those same team members are amazed at how great I look. They want me to come speak to potential new paitents, so they can get excited about having this surgery. I told them we'll see where I am in another year, after I've had plastic surgery to get rid of the excess skin that resulted from my weight loss.
Don't let an arbitrary decision by a psychologist deter you. Their job is to decide whether you're a candidate for surgery. What you do AFTER surgery is completely up to you. If you want to see 128 again, it's entirely possible, if you work hard enough.
Good luck!

KhadijahRose reacted to Shelley64 in Dr Oz Bad Mouthed Weight Loss Surgery ?
Someone posted over the weekend that her mother saw a Dr Oz show and he bad mouthed weight loss surgery so she told her daughter not to do it. I can't find the post now...don't remember which forum it was under by I commented that I had read an article in prevention magazine where Dr Oz says just the opposite. In the Oct 2011 issue, Dr Oz's article is about demanding better care from your doctor. He covers a number of topics but one of the questions they pose to him is: What health issue do you think can be solved in our lifetime? His answer....Obesity. I really do think we can get ahead of it. It's easier to cure obesity than cancer and it drives most of the heart disease and a good amount of the autoimmune issue we have. I also think gastric bypass surgery will play a big role. We probably do only 1% of the gastric bypass surgeries we should do. The next question was: So you're a proponent? His answer: Yes. Listen, if you're one hundred pounds overweight at age 50, you have the same mortality rate as if you have a solid cancer. Would you operate for cancer? Yeah. So if you cannon lost that weight, get one of these procedures. You have to do it with counseling and full awareness of what you're doing, of course. But if you get people to start losing 5% of their excess body weight, you're really taking a big whack of of the two-thirds of Americans who are overweight or obese right now.
I hope the gal who posted about her mom not supporting lap band because of what Dr Oz says will keep researching, talking to people on this site and make the life saving decision for herself.

KhadijahRose reacted to cheryl2586 in Not Losing.....4 Weeks Post Lap Band Surgery
Everyone hits a plateu and sometimes it will be longer than two weeks. You have to know that this will happen and just keep doing what your doing. The best advice is only weigh yourself once a week and yes I know that is hard but dont get on the scale everyday its a bummer

That's awesome news! Non-Scale Victories are what I am looking forward to most with my band. I can't wait to be able to fit into a size 16 or even a 12, or to run again or to be able to play basketball again or to just be ABLE! LOL Congrats on your success and keep it up!

KhadijahRose reacted to Jack in Eating Addiction And Emotional Eating: How Have You Coped After Being Lap Banded?
Great question. For me it requires daily discipline and a renewed dedication to my own well being. I had to learn the difference between 'hungry' and 'fear of becoming hungry'. I had to learn to identify the difference between 'hunger' and 'NOT hunger'.
I had to ask for help from a greater power. I had to choose between what was (literally) killing me a mouthful at a time, and how to train my Belly Beasts to take directions from my Brain.
I had to choose between going blind due to diabetic retinopathy, or change my life style.
I had failed at dieting for over 40 years, as everything I did produced a final weight of 373#.
While I was able to trim down from that preOp, I remained on insulin injections twice daily. Try controlling your weight doing that.
Banded in 2004, I remain "35# from my goal", but no insulin shots after 15 years on the needle and no CPAP after 10 on the nose hose.
We all have choices, and have to learn how to walk our own path.
Cheers on your journey.

KhadijahRose reacted to mustangnana5 in My Lap Band Weight Loss Story
Hello everyone I'm a new Member,
I live in nashville. had my surgery 3 years ago, and have lost 103 pds. Went from a 20-22 jeans to a size 6. Wish I have had the surgery years ago. Being the largest kid in grade school was so bad. Had so many friends ,but nobody wants a heavy girl friend. So I was the one that made jokes and everyone thought I was funny. My surgery was with Dr. Morton at Baptist Hospital. I've only had to have one ajustment, lost so much weight in 2 months they had to take out some from my pouch. I have kept my weight off for 2 years now.I need to post a before and after picture. The hanging skin doesn't look good ,but clothes will cover that up.. The only question I have for anyone who has had the surgery is the uncontrolable gas. I know that sounds funny, but I have gas when I eat or don't eat. My family and freinds calls it the walking farts LOL.
Does anyone else have this problem? If you do could you help me stop it. Before the surgery I never would let anyone ever know that I had gas.Now it just slips out and I can't control it. I'm 58 and have been married for 41 years. He has always loved me no matter what size I was , but know it's like he has a new wife he can pick up and I'm not bigger than him.
Thanks,
Brenda

KhadijahRose reacted to SunflowerK in Lap Band Surgery 10/11/11 - Newbie!
Hi everyone, I was banded 10/11/11. I just had my 2nd fill yesterday and have lost 35 lbs. I really messed up around Thanksgiving, ate too much of the wrong things. Then going out with co-workers at lunch just to get out of the office, and the first fill didn't last very long, and I was so hungry. I'm hoping this fill will last longer and will help me get back on track. I had bad news 11/2 - I was notified my job was being transferred overseas, but will still work through 12/30. After about a week, I stopped exercising and that mood lasted for about a month. Yesterday when I went in for my 2nd fill, I had only lost 3 lbs since the month before. At least it's in the right direction, but I know I can do better. So I just need to get back on track. I'm so glad I found this site!
I think the journey will be much easier with support from other bandsters.

KhadijahRose reacted to Corrigan in 1 More Week Until My Lap Band Surgery!
I don't think there's much to be nervious about, you just lie down and wake up in recovery. If you're lucky and stay overnight, you'll go home and that's where the real work begins. Don't forget your slippers andPJs, you know about those hospital gowns. You should have a list of stuff to have at
home before you go, sugar free stuff and chewable vitamins. If you're not
now, you'll become a walker, miles and miles of walking for the first 6
weeks. I hope you have an easy time of it and best of luck.

KhadijahRose reacted to marfar7 in Eating Poll
I'm totally a C'r! I love having the band - it allows me to eat the foods that I love just MUCH less of them. For instance, tonite for dinner I had 1/2 of a homemade taco. I've never been able to stop at less than 4 before my lapband. For Breakfast on most days I eat 1 egg and 1 pc of bacon. Or 1/2 a bagel with cream cheese. Or a carton of yogurt. I've never cut anything out (and that includs soda, altho I drink very little of it, but I now drink the real stuff, as I learned that most people who drink diet soda are overweight) - including bread, Pasta and rice. I can't eat more than 1 pc of bread tho.
My fiance, who's lost 80lbs over the past 18mths on a lo carb diet, hates me when I can buy a box of Cookies and eat just 1. He has to eat the whole package. I used to be like that too tho. Now I can eat just 1 and it takes care of that "snack monster". I've wondered if all the people who describe their diets as being so perfect really are - or are they lying? If I could be that good all the time, I would've never needed the band!
