  1. I have done several exercises geared to acknowleding my emotional eating.

I think the biggest step is affirmation of your emotional eating habits, then ownership of your choices and no matter what avoid the overeaters anon that tells you to say crap like " I am helpless". You aren't helpless.

Another thing is to take a stress management class, and learn how to deal with stress BEFORE it becomes emotional, and then emotional eating.

Good luck Sweetie! It's hard - make sure you have a grip on it BEFORE surgery - WLS will not fix this - and you can find yourself dropped into the heart of stress eating with no notice (my Mom passed away unexpectedly a week post op and I had to fly from Houston TX to Appalachian Mts. VA to take care of everything.)

If talking will help you are so very welcome to message me. I am not an expert, I am just offering to lend an ear.

  2. Kathy Iam wondering why you did not report that nurse, and file a complaint with the hospital. Too many incidents are let go like that, then someone is really neglected or hurt (or abused) and people go "how did they get away with it for so long".

  3. Walking and such is not your only option, and you will find shuffling your routines will keep you more interested - or at least less burned out. I would suggest walking or elliptical as a main exercize about 3x week, and seriously consider core training at least 3x also.

Core training is the foundation of your balance, and you literally retrain your body. Your posture will change, your ability to react fast and accurately, to stay balanced, hand to eye coordination - all is important and you see improvement with core exercizes - you don't even need weights in the beginning. Focus on planking, squats, raises, etc.

One thing I have always done is keep active. I couldn't always control my weight, so I focused on exercize. Just a little FYI on where my suggestions come from.

PS - if you burn out on the gym so be it. Get away from the gym, but just keep active. Get a bicycle or something.

I have a friend that found she needed obligation to help her move. She now walks dogs as a part time job, and volunteers her services to an animal shelter to walk dogs and play with cats and rabbtits - she couldn't stand the gym but the other she doesn't even see as exercize. I used to do it at home with volunteering to do wilderness tours. If you love what you are doing, it is 100% better than hating the gym. You may not even mind the gym on occasion after that.

  4. Sounds like your doing great. I have been on glucafage (msp) these past 6 years, it was beginning to interfere with my kidneys. So i started insulin about 2 months ago :o( I saw my GP today, and he said all is looking good, will have some bloodwork end of january, and prob will be off medicine (also high blood pressure and high cholterol (big time msp) I'm so excited about this.Sounds like you have a great DH,asking all those questions and stuff :o) my WLS was 12/15/11- so i'm right behind you :o) Take care and see you on the posts.hope it was ok - to peak at your blog. thanx kathy

It was totally OK for you to take a peek, lol...

  5. Good luck! I was on an insulin pump for almost 3 years prior to my surgery. I have not had any insulin since the day of surgery and I only take 1 metformin pill a day. This surgery has been the best thing ever. I so far have lost 31 pounds and I am 7 weeks out. On issue is that my liver numbers have gone up. I don;'t know what caused this but I am working with my Bariatric Doctor. Maybe the lack of minerals and vitamins. I always forget take my vitamins and they are very important. Keep us posted on your successes!

Thank you! That is so good to be off your pump! Are you staying hydrated? That can impact your liver readings.

  6. Nicole76 - Thank you!

rebecca b - I am sorry your boss is harassing you. Perhaps you could talk to your doctor to issue a note that it is a medical necessity and as time critical as any treatment you would need. Insurance definitions of necessity and what your doctor deems necessary probably disagrees - with a note from your doctor you will also qualify for FMLA if needed - depending on how long you have worked for your company, of course.

I am very worried about something happening. My Hubby is a Geophysicist and travels for long periods of time all over the world, so I basically run our household - I have power of attorney and all that. I bought our house when he was in Africa! lol. I am trying to get him familiar with the household accounts again and he is trying! He has advised work he will not even consider traveling until the doctor has cleared me to stage 5 eating and I am feeling well.

Losermama - I too feel like I am going to be the one person to not lose an ounce and yet totally follow the plan!

  7. MeMeMEEE & Lissa - Thank you so very much!

illgeturhairdid - Do not ever apologize for your faith, dear Sister! If someone cannot handle you expressing your Christianity, it is not your fault and we should NEVER apologize! No one ever turns down our charity or good deeds and I have NEVER been stopped when I was offering my time or support or money and asked "Are you doing this because you are Christian?" - you know?

    Off my soapbox!

Thank you. It is hard. It will be harder. I will do my very best to, well, do my very best. Friends like you online and in this social network - and not forgetting my warm bodied frends, lol - will be the lighthouse in a strong storm.

"I will instruct you and teach you on the way you should go. I will counsel you and watch over you." - Psalm 32:8

  8. You said the only way you ever lost enough weight to be healthy was not to pay attention to what you ate? If you were at a healthy weight you would not have had the surgery. Please be cautious about what you let slip in that would make it ok - or would have used to - because it didn't.

Your students are going to live. Unless you were growing someone a new kidney in lab NOTHING they will go without compares to what you stand to lose. Most of us here have a history or putting others first, and allowing ourselves to fall behind. It is a part of the frustrations and bad habits that have contributed to our morbid obesity. It isn't a chore for you to have this step - and it isn't a step - modified eating is for the rest of your life. For you to succeed, you need to get used to taking care of yourself. LIKE IT! lol!

There is nothing wrong with putting yourself first. You can actually do more when you do so. I have been learning this lesson, and looking back am surprised I never figured it out sooner. That is a part of the issue, I guess -

    Good luck and God bless!

  9. Your process sounds different from mine. It has been about 5 years to get to this point, but that was me trying to decide if I wanted to do it, which procedure would be best, etc.

I called and asked and reviewed and finally decided on a doctor, my appointment was last week, I was scheduled for the surgery on January 4th. I have a nutritionist visit, psyche evaluation and blood work that has to be completed before then, and the liquid diet and that's it - or how it was explained to me. Is there more pre-op?

I am not including the surgery or afterwards, they went over all of that very well.
