I am so sorry for all the issues you are having to deal with. You've taken a great first step by letting it out and talking about it. It's good news that your pouch hasn't stretched. My suggestion would be to address the depression with your doctor. Water aerobics may be a good exercise and less impact to your injuries. I will be sending prayers for you.

I know this is going to be tough, because you have all this excitement and new found zest for life.. But in order to minimise the reactions.. which appear to be all negative... you're going to have to limit how much you squeal and bounce around with excitement.
If you can stand in your husbands shoes: Is he overweight himself? Is he seeing these massive changes and wondering how he fits in to this any more? Is he being a bit childish and resentful, because nothing this exciting is happening to him? Is his ego taking a bit of a bashing? Is he fundamentally fearful he's going to lose you and resentful that YOU are the one who changed your family's dynamic?
Your children's shoes: Are they just bored to tears of hearing about it? Are they, too, a bit miffed that they haven't got anything this exciting going on in their lives? Are they feeding off the negativity coming from your husband because they, too, might recognise that YOU are the one who changed what they knew and upset the applecart because of the change in family dynamic?
You have every right to want to sing from the hill tops - but a little appreciation of how they are viewing things, might be useful. It might not change their opinions - but by talking to them gently, attempting to understand their position, you might be able to temper your enthusiasm for your new path (which might make them feel like you're leaving them behind) and try and find ways to integrate them and make things more inclusive.
Humans don't like change. None of us do. When we choose to make a change in the form of this surgery, we're already 3/4 of the way to embracing all the good things that happen. Rarely we look at all the potential negatives. I would hazard a guess your husband is resentful. Your kids are bored and reacting to your husbands negativity. The friends are probably a little jealous of the excitement in your life, because they don't have the same in theirs. It would be interesting to hear if your friends are there to support you in your current difficulties with your husband.... But, and before you try broaching that subject with them...
All of this boils down to people who are sitting their thinking 'what about me?'. I know this is crapadoodle, because everyone feels they have the right to be happy and the right to be supported and damnit, the right to be excited! Sadly, most people are a little bit selfish and whilst they're seeing you happier by the day, they're not feeling so happy. They probably feel that they need more of your attentions and sympathies for their circumstances..
Try talking to all of them. Don't mention your surgery at all. Ask them how THEY are doing. If they become animated and engaged, you know that was the problem. If they don't, then you might be looking for something else. With the husband? You might want to tread carefully with that one and not mention the surgery for a while... As awful as it sounds, do a bit of ego soothing for him and see if this garners a positive reaction. If it does.. Then you know what it was.
Sad as it is, you might have to keep your excited Carlton Banks dancing in your smaller trousers in your room, just to yourself and for a little while. Just until the waters are calmed and their reserves of emotional generosity are topped up enough to give you what you are after and what you fundamentally deserve.

    UPDATE 6 Weeks:
Lordy Lordy Look Who's Down 40
I know everyone says but it is so true how amazingly weird it is to look down at the scale and see it the number 40 less than just 6 short weeks ago! I used to have a scale possessed by satan that would read 260 and then I would get back on and it would read 126!!! I bought a new scale by EatSmart, which is EXCELLENT, and I still will get on it again to make sure the number it is giving is real and also that it is not possessed. Even if I the number doesn't go down I still get a big smile and get warm fuzzies when I see the number.
    Eating.
I have not ventured out with my food like some of you brave souls. My meals consist of either chicken, tuna fish, turkey deli meat, turkey meatballs, eggs or fish. All of those give a lot of Protein and go down pretty easy. Although chicken is something that if is not dark meat or very moist causes issues going down. It is actually painful right below my ribs in the middle. I found out if I mix in unsweetened applesauce to chicken breast it goes down smoothly.
I usually start out each day with 2 scoops of unjury, 1 chocolate Splendor and 1 Unflavored, with hot Water that's under 140°!! This is my Protein Hot Cocoa that gives me 42g of protein! Since I started this drink I haven't missed my daily Protein.< /span>
    Drinking.
Still a challenge to get my 8 cups in everyday. If I don't concentrate on it I will be a cup low for day or dinking lemonade at 10pm. It still surprises me how long it takes to drink. I haven't ventured into many different types of drinks. I am still waiting to drink coffee until I am out 4 months. I still have my Kuerig and I visit with it often to make sure it knows I miss it!! Is that weird???
    Exercise.
Every week is getting better. I am doing just cardio right now 3-4 times a week. My desire is to run in a 5K this year so I have started to practice the Couch 2 5K (C25K) program. I will actual C2K5 in a month or so. I am convinced that exercise is crucial to maximizing the weight loss. We will still lose pounds if we don't exercise this first year but I believe we can lose even more with adding exercise.
This is a port to catch up with my WLS family so I apologize for being so long. I will pop in more often I promise!!!!

kespy74 reacted to terry1118 in surgery on monday... what ifs
I'm 54 and I had my surgery 8 months ago. I have only one regret - that I didn't do this YEARS ago! I became overweight with my first pregnancy in '86 (full term twin girls), increasing my weight in '91 with my second pregnancy (10 1/2 pound son), and then steadily gaining from there. At first, because I was young, I was a pretty healthy fat person. I did things with my kids (even if I was uncomfortable or embarrassed). Gradually I developed back, knee, and foot pain. I became less active because of the pain and continued to gain weight. I had high cholesterol, was pre-diabetic, carb-sensitive, and had gall stones from my continuous high fat diet. I was on medication for the cholesterol that affected my liver. My husband is into body building and is extremely fit and healthy. He looks 15 years younger than me. I couldn't do anything with him. Last year I was in so much pain that I could barely get through my workday (I work in a bank). I was miserable and becoming more unhealthy with each month that passed. I only had a few items of clothing that fit and they were getting tight. The thought of buying something in sz24 or 3x made me cringe. I'm only 5' tall and I was pretty huge.
I'm telling you all this because most of you seem young with young families. If you do this now you can enjoy your younger years and be a bigger part of your children's lives. You can be the fun mom doing things with your kids, not the one who watches the fun happen from the sidelines. You can get healthy BEFORE the health problems start to do damage to your bodies and make you miserable - perhaps even shortening your life. You can LIVE and not just EXIST.
I had my surgery on 5/30/13
I healed quickly with no complications and very little discomfort. By July my snoring stopped. By August I was off meds and feeling really good. By fall I was very active - all my body aches and pains were gone. I was loving shopping for clothes and I was a size 16. By Christmas I had lost 100 pounds and was a size 10! I'm only 9 pounds away from my married weight. I go with my husband on his motorcycle - back-boobs are gone and I look great in my leather jacket. I walk my dogs a lot and they are no longer chubby, too! I am SO VERY HAPPY and I feel GREAT!!! I wasted so much of my life feeling terrible, physically and mentally.
If you do this now you won't regret it. In all my research I couldn't find anyone who did. Even the few I found who had complications said they had no regrets. The only regret most have is that they waited too long. Only you know what is best for you. But if you wonder if you should wait until you develop weight-related problems that says to me that you know nothing will change between now and then. Why wait?
    Just my thoughts... :-)

    UPDATE 1 Month:
    Happy 1 Month Surgiversary!!!
So yesterday was one month from my WLS that was a blur that day. This last month has been mind boggling with how things can change so fast and it encourages me to want to work harder and never cheat. I can honestly say I have not cheated ONCE this last month! Will I never cheat? Yep probably because I am still human but this head start is great!
I have read so many of the posts from the Veterans here that have helped my mindset to stay focused and keep the path. I understand that everything slows down and eventually I will have actually be hungry again but not right now!! I am enjoying every second of this stage because I know it wont last. I know the changes and decisions that I am making everyday are cemented a permanent pattern for a healthy life! I had a teacher or coach that would always say:
"Practice doesn't make Perfect.....Practice makes PERMANENT!"
So here are some stats because I love stats and it is great to see the inches lost not just pounds. These are how much I lost in ONE month:
    WEIGHT: 34 lbs
    WAIST: 5 in
    CHEST: 3 in
    LEG: 2 in
    NECK: 1.25 in
    ARM: 1.25 in
I have also been able to do more on the exercise front. Today I went 2 miles in 32 minutes with running 6 mph for 8 of those minutes! A month ago I was walking 2.5 mph for 20 minutes.
More to come and thanks for all the support all of you!!!!

I am a coke-aholic. I am trying to cut it out but am having such a hard time. I am hoping once I have surgery I won't crave it. Was anyone else a soda addict and did thos cravings go away after surgery. I know once I have the surgery, no matter how much I crave, I will not give in but I just hope it's easier to fight.

I went to my PCP on October 1 for the referral and had my firt vist witht he surgeon on the 5th of November. On the 19th of Novemeber I went back to my PCP for the referrals to the phsychologist, pulmonologist, gastroenterologist, cardiologist, lab work, ultrasound, and xrays. I contacted the surgeons office to make sure they have received the records completed so far and was told yesterday that my insurance requires 3 months consecutive monthly MD Supervised Diet. WHAT!!! Fortunately they sent a form and I can use my October and November appointments and just have to get a December appointment and it should be fine. I've emailed my doctor's office to try to get in and get the form completed for my previous appointments. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Hoping to have surgery by the end of January or early February, which would be about 4-5 months from begiining to end. I will never complain about waiting since many have waitied so much longer.
    Good luck to everyone!!

Hello and welcome to "Operation Operation" for me.
I have read quite a few stories over the past 8 months prepping up for the day I would be lucky enough to get a date for surgery. I have found them useful so I decided I will attempt it and try to use it as a sounding board and future reflection for myself. Someone I respect highly said that EVERYONE should write their own autobiography. That has always stuck in my mind and maybe one day I will but until then I will use this blog.
My date to change the rest of my life is day after Christmas, 26 Dec 2013.
Here are some reasons I am happy:
I am happy for monetary reasons because my out of pocket expenses have been this year and now I won’t pay anything or surgery!!! Also my deductibles and out of pocket expense amounts are all raising to over 2.5 times what they are this year (thanks Obamacare!!). So if I had it in January it would be a lot more!!
I am of course ecstatic because this is what I needed for a while and wouldn't allow it because I figured I could lose the inches without it but I have proved that false. I would lose a lot of pounds just to see them come back faster than it took to take them off and of course with some extra weight to add.
I am glad because my twin 8 yr. old girls will have Daddy in their lives for many more years.
I am delighted that my wonderful Wiff will get to have me around for the rest of her days on this planet. Not sure she is glad about this but I am (Just kidding of course.)
I am joyful that I will not have so many physical problems with this body.
So I will be updating "Operation Operation" here.

I started my process in September but had to restart in October because my insurance (Tricare) gave me a referral to a different surgeon than the one I originally selected. I met with the surgeon on the 5th of November and I am currently going through ALL the clearances. I have completed the lab work, chest xray, and ultrasound of my gallbladder (which showed gallbaldder disease). I went to the cardiologist last week and he said my ekg looked great, but he still wanted to do an echo stress test which is this wednesday. I go to the pulmonologist tomorrow and the gastroenterologist the 6th of January and the phsychologist on the 9th of January. I am hoping that all my clearances will be completed and to my surgeons office by mid January and I can get my surgery in early February. I am so ready to start my new life.
    Good luck to everyone!!

They also look at have I done everything the doctor asked and I have plus some! She said she's going to call me tomorrow after she meets with them. I can't believe how close I am. I have Tricare Prime, my hubby is active duty. This is actually one time that they are great. When I called, they said I didn't need to have 3-6 months monitored diet, which was a relief. No mention of preop diet but at my first appointment, my doctor and nut want me to not gain any weight and if I lose a little even better. My nut wants me to start putting into practice seven things like eating my protien first, no drinking with meals, chewing chewing chewing. Making small steps each day to get ready.
