October Bandsters!!!
had my surgery on Friday, the 28th. feeling pretty good but the shoulder pain is bad. been using heat, warm tea & drugs. sure is hard to move on & off the bed! hospital stay was bad, exhausting...they woke so much and when they weren't in the room they were so noisy. glad to be home. I am walking 1/2 hr. at a time, it helps with everything. none of these things were a surprise with all info I've learned! it really did help.

October Bandsters!!!
have you found another brand of protein to try? they really do taste different. if you can go to a reputable health foods store or vitamin shoppe so they can help with questions. the protein makes such a difference on weight loss. it's hard to get 50 - 60 grams with the food we can eat. sipping liquids will help with the hunger part. keep going, you know you are on the right path!!!

October Bandsters!!!
I am ONE day away form my surgery!!! I feel good, I feel ready. I am so happy to have come to this forum b4 the surgery. I have received such good advise and agreed with many when they felt discouraged. I hope to let you know how it all went by Saturday. I wish I didn't have to wait so long to get back into exercise, it has been such a God send for getting me ready. I have not been able to look at myself in the mirror(other than my face) for so long! Wish me luck, hope the pain is minimal. I'm kind of a wimp in that regard!!

What if my liver doens't shrink?
I agree it is probably a scare tactic. just keep in mind that the more you lose before surgery the better. you will be so happy with yourself. stick to the things he has told you to eat, don't cheat. YOU CAN DO THIS !!!! You can do anything and this is the beginning. best of luck, keep communicating it will really help!quote name='Kellysue' timestamp='1318623908' post='1674146'] OK I know this may be a dumb question, but I start my liver shrinking diet on Sunday and am so scared my liver won't shrink. My doctor said if he gets in there and it's not, he will sew me up and send me home! That's my biggest fear!

October Bandsters!!!
I have used pure almond also. great calorie numbers. I think the Doc off. was talking about the combined calories. Another tasty brand is jay robb whey Protein. whey is one of the best Proteins. $34.99 240z. bottle 23 servings. 110 calories 1gm carb. 25 gm protein 0gm cholesterol ogm fat. I really like the taste and get it a the Vitamin shoppe. keep in mind that the artificial sugar should not be aspartame, no sucralose. the people at the store I go to have really done their homework and I appreciate that.

October Bandsters!!!
good to watch your weight loss. you seem very calm and content. that is who I want to be! I didn't get to this weight yesterday and I want to remember that I won't get to my goal weight tomorrow! the goal is health for me. thanks for your "down to earth" replies.

Pre surgey
the more you lose the easier it will be at surgery time. remember we will lose between 40 and 60% of our body weight with the band. getting started b4 will get your mind in the right place for the changes and give you a head start. ask lots of questions of your Doc, his nurse, the nutritionist. they all have great information. good luck!!! this is probably the best thing I have ever done for myself!!

Finally told them...
addiction is addiction, I am a recovering alcoholic of 29 yrs. we (alcoholics) tend to trade one addiction for another. when we remember we are not the master of all we can succeed. we need to believe in a higher power to find success. we have to remember that many people want to do this surgery and for many reasons, don't. instead of hate think love. you don't have to say anything to them, just think a positive thought for them. you never know, it could work. it has for me. I know that if I feel hate (or even strong dislike) for another person, I set myself up for failure, because of the guilt. keep doing what your doc tells you to do, tell the people you know will support you, take it one day at a time. our health is the most important thing. we want to live and feel that health for a long time!

Wow, that must feel really great! Don't you find it amazing that we can follow what the doc tells us to do. I mean I weighed 239 on July 25th, they told me to count calories. I am doing it and weigh 222 last Friday. Why did it take me so long to do this!!!!

Newbie Here
Thanks for sharing. this is such fun. it's hard to talk alot to people who don't know how it feels to be overweight. I have told some people too (the ones I trust for support). I remember a friend who had the roux n y years ago and she did not tell any of us. when she came back to work people kept questioning her constantly. I remember how uncomfortable she was with explaining, I am going to ease into letting people know that things are changing. I don't want lots of extra attention. I am happy that my doc told me to lose weight b4 the surgery, I didn't expect to lose more than the 10lbs. he asked for. it's been a great start and people are starting to see that I am working on my weight now - b4 the surgery1

Hunger Issues
I would say be careful about buying into everything you hear. Trust your doc and his nurses. Ask lots of questions and think positive!! God wants all of us to be happy, he gave us a brain and we need to use it as much as possible! It is easy to feel fear when someone else has had trouble. Trust those you know you can trust ( and pray for those who need the help).

4 days post op
boy, I love to hear about all that weight!! did you feel full enough. I think my doc will use the same food formula. I wonder if the person who is having trouble is chewing well and not mixing any liquids with the meal. I have been told no liquids 30 minutes b4 or after?

Introduction
this has already been so good for me. I am looking for support, I want to be a longterm success story. My health is the main objective for me. I have been on meds for Cholesterol for a few years and last year I got a CPAP machine for sleep. I am grateful that these things help us but - losing weight will take care of both of them! I love seeing the weight people are losing. I started at 239 at the end of July, I now weigh 222. My doc started me on a 1200 calorie diet after the first meeting. I was supposed to lose 10 lbs. b4 the surgery. Isn't it funny how we lose when we stop eating junk!! I started going to curves in Aug. and it is so good, I am down one pant size and the pain in my legs has gone away. I am having surgery on Oct 28th & am really excited. Thanks to all who visit this site!!!

Protein Drinks Stage 1
I bought it at a Vitamin Shoppe store in Mn. I am sure the brand can be found everywhere. I paid 21.99 but as a member I had a 20% discount coupon. I've researched & found that whey protein is the best to use. I have talked to many people about the right one. The 32 grams comes because I used soymilk which has 7 grams. of protein. I use the chocolate but it also comes in vanilla & tropical deamsicle. I figure, if I need to drink this and insure I get enough protein, I will pay for it. One of the nurses told me her brother was not getting enough protein after his surgery and started to lose his hair. Talk to your Dr.,the nurses and store employees. I started with 3 small pouches of each flavor to make sure it tasted good. the tub is 12 oz. making it 11 servings if you fill the scoop to the top.I don't always fill it to the top, I occasionally add a sm. banana or other fruit.
