The Bariatric "food" Card
I want this too. I forgot to ask about this at my six week appt too. Do we have to get these through our docs or can we get them another way?

I would be happy to send if someone is willing to pay shipping.

Protein Source/type Controversy - Premier?
So, I made a silly random comment about my premier Protein shake on twitter, and had a person come back to me kind of off topic from what I posted to tell me that I shouldn't be relying on Premier Protein drinks as a protein source because its not 100% hydrolyzed whey protein so isn't absorbed well. Not sure if this person is a rep for proto whey or what, but of course it rattles me to hear that a protein source I'm relying on may not be the best. This particular one was recommended whole heartedly by my NUT as a good choice and she confirmed it this week. So what is the deal? I know she told me that I shouldn't use the protein bullets because the collagen form of protein is not very absorbable unless you consume animal protein at the same time. And she also just generally mentioned sources of protein derived from plants rather than animal are not as absorbable unless consumed with an animal protein source. So why is the form of protein in PRemier supposedly bad? it lists milk protein concentrate, milk protein isolate, Calcium caseinate and whey protein concentrate. I have no clue. I'm sure this has been asked before but didn't find a great thread upon searching. Does anyone have a link to an unbiased primer about the different types of protein and how they are absorbed and what is considered the best source from an unbiased source? I'm willing to change but I don't want to change if what I'm doing is fine!

A Nsv That's Blowing My Mind!
That is an awesome NSV, congratulations! I've been contemplating that myself, while I'm in a stall, i'm trying to buoy myself up with realizing the volume that 57 lbs actually represents, instead of getting stuck on why its not moving faster.

I Am Not A Good Cook - Any Ideas Regarding What On Restaurant Foods That Will Work Well With The Plan
Well, I am the queen of dining out. And I am pleased to say that at my six week checkup my NUT reviewed my logs from myfitnesspal and told me I had managed to do pretty darn well eating out almost every day and still staying within guidelines. So if you are on myfitnesspal, i am guessing you can look at my diary and see my choices. Long list of examples that she thought were good choices: Red Robin: Ensenada chicken Platter (half) and just eat half of a chicken breast and a few bites of the salad. Red Lobster -- Grilled Shrimp Skewer or Shrimp Scampi McDonalds -- Grilled Chicken sandwich (chicken only, no bun) and some kids apple slices Chinese Buffet -- chicken skewers, or shrimp or the insides of wontons. Qdoba type places -- Naked burrito, no rice, chicken ,just eat a little bit of the chicken and Beans Carinos -- lemon rosemary chicken -- eat just the chicken and some sauce Panda Express -- kung pao chicken or green bean chicken Pf Changs -- hot and sour soup, kung pao chicken Steak/barbeque type places -- smoked turkey or barbequed chicken Jimmy Johns -- get their meat wrapped up in lettuce as an unwich General Buffet places -- just focus on the Protein and ignore the rest

Weird Feeling In My Throat
For me, the omeprezole was not strong enough. I had to go to a prescription PPI. Hopefully its just some weird post-op body trick, if it hangs around, you may want to talk to doc about silent reflux.

Weird Feeling In My Throat
For me its not swelling, its silent reflux (lasopharyngeal reflux) -- are you on a PPI?

Insides Feel Weird
That is totally what I had to do. In the first couple of weeks. even with a little pillow supporting it just would get too achy and I would have to move back to my back. But no issues now at all! It will pass. Our guts got rearranged, thats all

Insides Feel Weird
I had this too, it resolved at about 3-4 weeks. I noticed it most if trying to lay on my side, also. Weird, huh?

What Is Your New Addiction?
Well, I already had a secondary addiction I'm trying not to activate, which is spending money. What I am trying to put in place as "healthy" obsessions are knitting and crocheting. I've compulsion hopped my whole life. food and money are my most dangerous ones. Like prior posters, I am scared to death of developing another bad addiction.

Max Amount Of Protein At One Time?
It's called gluconeogenesis. A fairly plain language explanation is at .http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/uncategorized/protein-sparing-effect/ Essentially if the body is in calorie deficit, like we all are, it looks to other sources for energy.

Anyone Wish They Had Not Done Their Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
I am ambivalent at this point. No major complications have surfaced, no issues with eating or nausea or throwing up, so that is all good. But right now, the scale isn't moving much. Its frustrating to be eating 600-800 calories a day and NOT seeing the scale move! But I am hopeful it will pass. I have seen good benefits already but the majority of that weight loss that led to these changes occurred before I had surgery! SO hopefully we'll see the scale moving better soon.

Max Amount Of Protein At One Time?
I was told the max was 25-30g by my nutritionist, to actually be used as protein. Otherwise the body converts it to sugar. So personally, I space them out because I don't see any reason to not have it used as protein.

Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss
I don't midn the flavor of mine so much, as remembeing to take them 4x a day. I am good with about 3 of them a day but regularly forget the 4th, and also have problems fitting the calcium in 2 hours apart from the multi. I need an appt reminder or something. I also wish there were a gummy bariatric Vitamin. I have opurity bariatric Vitamins on hand which I bought before meeting with her because i liked the fact that they were one a day. But my nut rattled off a list of things I would need to take a small supplement if I took them. However at this point, if I'm missing my 4th pill a few times a week, based on the differences in levels between the two of them, I might be better off with taking the one a day. I had no idea calcium had a role in flushing out fat. Cool.

My Incisions Are Worrisom
Yep, stop alcohol. I'm a little ahead of you and had this happen on two of them . When I called, they told me to get wound closure strips (like steri strips but available at walgerens with adhesive already on them). A tip: if you jsut put them on flat, the wound will stay open. I found it worked best to put the tape above/on top of the incision first, pull gently down as I adhered it down across the incision, so that it brough the two sides together. I used 2 on the small one and 3 on teh large one. The one that was more open is still a little bit larger scar, but the one that was a small gape looks just like al lthe rest now, a nice tight line.

Wait...shouldn't Calories Per Day For Weight Loss Still Work The Same As Pre-Op?
Like you I was given no set caloric value for any phase I've been in, just a Protein goal of 60-100 grams. I'm averaging about 600-800 calories a day in terms of focusing on the protein and always getting in Water. Anything else is bonus. I too use myfitnesspal, its great. Jsut about any food you can think of seems to be there. Like you've I've wondered about the caloric intake deal. the way my NUT explained it to me, you want to make hay while the sun shines in the first 12-18 months and really take advantage of our lower appetite and do more exercise to get the most benefit, since apparently once that "window" closes it wil lbecome harder to lsoe weight. We are given the Vitamins and supplements to still ensure we are getting the nutrients we need, so theoretically that is why we can eat fewer calories. I have had days when I have gone higher or eaten something not officially on my plan, but I move on and just keep focused on protein and water. If your stall continues then maybe talk more to your nut, but if you feel good about what level you are at and the scale starts to move again, that's good.

Carbs Debate
THe only point your surgeon may be making is taking advantage of that first 18 month window after surgery. I've read in more than one place that our window for best opportunity to lose the weight after surgery is 12-18 months, and then after that it gets harder.
-
Carbs Debate
Common foods high in carbs are anything with grains in it. Rice, bread, Pasta, Cereal, sweets, candy, cakes, chips, etc. Your surgeon wants you eating 1 carb per meal? That seems a little extreme to me. I am settling somewhere in between your surgeon and your endos advice. I am finding myself eating about 50 carbs a day right now, and am fairly happy there, and its crazy given that I probably used to eat 250-300 carbs or more a day.

Not Even Two Weeks Post-Op And My Blood Sugar
AWESOME!! Its amazing how these things resolve. I haven't had any official bloodwork, but I was told not to take my metformin until my 6 week appt and when i've been spotchecking my blood sugars, they are all nicely in the normal range, so I'm hopeful I'm done with diabetes meds too! So great to see your progress. keep it going!

Returning To Work
Ridiculous I say. I am so sorry for your loss, pookeyism. But yeah, I'd take the extra step and get the PCP to help out. Nothing you've described sounds out of the ordinary for where you at. When you get to a month you'll hopefully not be in pain anymore...about 3.5 weeks is when it all pretty much went away for me. I have a sedentary job that most of the time Iwork from home. i had planned on take two weeks off, went back for two days, and then decided I need another week. It wasn't pain so much as it was fatigue! So I understand. As far as other options, do you work at a place that also has a policy for bereavement leave? Many companies offer anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks off just for the loss of a close family member. Hugs.
