Pre-op diet
Did the liquid diet make you sleepy? Today is my second day and I am having a hard time fighting the exhaustion. Could it be because I am consuming less? I am BEAT!!!

Liquid Diet
So...today is Day 2 of my liquid diet. Initially, I was so psyched about this portion of my journey it didn't matter if my physician told me I could only have one can of Slim Fast to sip on for the entire day. Keep in mind I said initially. Today, however, I am singing a new tune. Although I love the flavor of the Slim Fast I AM STARVING !!! At this point I don't know what I want more...sleep or food. Yesterday I was not this tired. Today, I feel like I haven't gotten any rest. I'm assuming it's from the lack of food. I'm still encouraged and am looking forward to the next leg of my journey which is surgery on September 20, but right now... right now I'm exhausted and could go for some extra spicy buffalo wings with chucky bleu cheese dressing on the side. But since that's not gonna happen, I guess I'll just have to take a deep breath and hang in there! *Huge sigh*

Personal questionfor the ladies
Thanks, Ladies! I was so worried that perhaps my surgery would be postponed. Onward and upward

Why do some doctors require the 14 day liquid diet?
Like MelissaAnd, my doctor also told me that it would shrink the fat around my liver - which is always a great thing before this type of surgery. I am always amazed at how much weight people lose during this time. Yesterday was my first day of the pre-op diet. I hope I am as successful as the others. All the best, Niki

55 pounds lost!!!!

Personal questionfor the ladies
I hope this isn't too personal. My surgery is scheduled for 9/20 and I just realized I will/should be on day 2 of my period on 9/20. Question, do you think my surgery will be postponed because of this?

Pre op weight loss
Today is the first day of my pre-op diet. My physicain didn't give me a specific number of pounds he wanted me to lose. I have to do this for the next 12 days (until 9/18) then on 9/19 I have to do all Clear Liquids as my surgery is on 9/20. These are his instruction: 4 to 6 cans of Slim Fast per day (approximately 190 calories per shake) or 3 to 4 cans of Slim Fast per day and unsweetened applesause, or sugar free/fat free pudding, or Dannon Light & Fit yogurt. I hope this helps. I'll keep you posted on how much I lose on this diet. All the best, Nicole

Missing work??
My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 20 and I am only planning on taking a week off. Like so many others, I;ve read posts where people go back ina few days or after a week. I think it depends on the person. I'm sure you'll be fine. All the best, Niki

Pre-op Diet is a killer
I don't start my pre-op diet until 9/6 as my surgery isn't until 9/20. I remember the nutritionist mentioning headaches during the pre-op diet and saying that it tends to not only come from hunger but also from a lack of caffeine - which we can't have. I hope your headaches subside and that you feel much better soon. Hang in there and be encouraged! All the best to you! Be well, Niki

Just need a little advice.
Thank you so much for sharing. I haven't had my surgery yet but I did wonder how I would get in my liquids and your medicine cup is a great idea. I have several Nyquil cups and I think they will work perfectly. Thank you! Niki

About to talk to my boss....
Hi NM86, You and I are on the same page. I told my boss when I came in this morning that I'd be taking some time off to have a procedure. His reaction was concern not knowing what procedure I was having so I shared it with him. He just listened, nodded and then said whatever I needed just ask. I knew that I needed to tell at least one of my bosses (I work for 4 attorneys) and I don't regret sharing my news with him. I don't think you should feel obligated to share any of your personal business with your boss. I'm sure your pressure can be affected by stress and/or anxiety. If you have the time (vacation, personal, sick, etc.) go through the proper channels to get the time off and when you feel comfortable then you can tell her...in your own time. Chin up and be encouraged! Niki

Surgery date September 20
And the good news keeps rolling in. A little while ago I posted that I had received my approval letter yesterday in the mail. This morning I called the surgical nurse/coordinator to let her know about the letter (the Doctor said IBC usually lets their insureds know before they let the surgeons know about approval/denial). Anyway, they received a copy of the letter and right then and there, on the phone she gave me my surgery date!!! She also went over my liquid diet, when to start it, etc. I am beyond estatic. My face hurts from smiling so much. Can this day get any better???
