  1. get samples! about time does samples, google tryabouttime.com and I think BJ's bariatrics carries the syntrax nectar drinks. I had some i liked pre surgery that are leaving a weird blanket coating across my tongue. g-ross!!! I see my surgeon tomorrow and I am going to ask if i can sip pureed/liquified protein foods to get my protein. What day were you sleeved? Mine was sept 28. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
  2. I had the "hoops" to jump through for insurance. 6 month supervised diet, psych eval, sleep study. But as far as "pre-op tests", once I got my surgery date of september 28 they then gave me the pre op test orders. The pre op tests have to be done within 2 weeks of getting your surgery (at least with my surgeon). I am having bloodwork, an ekg, a chest xray, and the endoscopy thing. After doing some reading and the light bulb going off in my head I asked my surgeon if we could check my gall bladder. SO i have an abdominal ultrasound the same day I have the other tests. I think that is all. Some boxes we can't check TOO soon. Good luck on your journey!!!!!!!!
  3. Puree sounds gross but I have been practicing to see how I like things. I find that most non meat soups (especially bean soups) blend really well. My doc's stages are different, after I get out of hospital I start on all blended/applesauce consistency foods for 5 weeks. SO soups are good, I make boiled cauliflower then blend it with some broth and cheese and add non flavored protein to that... I have a lobster bisque soup for after surgery and if i like it then I might get bold blending other things. Maybe store bought creamed soups? Check out some bean soups, good protein. Good luck!!
  4. oh PLEASE let me be cold!!!!! I am always the hottest person!!! (haha) I suffered all summer in the texas heat without ac in my van, cold sounds really good!!!!!!!!!
  5. I like leftovers. Less time in the kitchen, less dishes to wash. And my two teenage boys love anything and are bottomless pits. The responses have been interesting. Thank you!!!
  6. There are some events I go to every year that serve some delicious food. I hate to waste it and asking for a "to-go" container may not be possible (ladies luncheon at church, husband's christmas party with the best food i have all year). I have visions of my grandma at the buffet with her little ziploc baggies taking food home for her dogs. Has anyone invented a purse sized reusable doggie bag that is discreet?? LOL.. it seems so funny to ask this but what the heck!! Who wants to throw away 4 ozs of filet mignon!!! I would love to hear how y'all bring home your leftovers. No point in wasting it if it can last a few meals!!! I thought about keeping a mini car adaptor plug in ice chest handy in the car for when I do have leftovers.
  7. I have noticed quite a few post op folks talking about eating and "not feeling full." Does this mean you still "feel hungry" or are you just not feeling that sensation you are use to to know when to stop? My surgeon told me to measure my food in either 1/4 or 1/2 cup servings (i need to look) and eat that so many times a day. With all the water he has me drinking I don't expect to feel the ravenous hunger I would feel now, but just curious about the "full" feeling. I am hoping to train myself to eat based on measurements and not the feeling anymore. That "full" feeling pre op for me equates to a giant chipotle burrito, chips and guac. No bueno...
  8. Nutri-ox from Sally's Beauty Supply has helped me pre=op with some hair regrowth. It is not expensive compared to Nioxin so I use it everyday and my stylist noticed the regrowth. I would also recommend a flat iron and some thermal care spray. You will be able to style it more with a flat iron and with a little product on it give it some control. My other trick, when I am really annoyed by a light spot, I use my eyebrow powder and color the light scalp. Looks awesome. heheheh Enjoy!!
  9. Pre-op but i will share this. Last night I wanted to try some watermelon lemonade. I juiced the lemon then put it in the blender with the watermelon. I had some cheesecloth so I thought I would strain out any missed seeds or whatever. I had NO IDEA how much "pulpy stuff" would be left on the cheesecloth! It was a mess, I would not use cheesecloth again but a fine strainer thingee. SO if you were going to do it, i would be prepared to strain it. My surgeon just says that if I can eat it with a fork the first 6 weeks then i CAN'T eat it. And the drink was really good so it may be something I keep doing once I have a strainer. Good luck!!
  10. My oncologist who recommends the sleeve said "DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TAKE ANTIDEPRESSANTS, HORMONES GO WACKY WHEN LOSING WEIGHT". He didn't really yell but he was very serious with kinda bigger eyes when he said it. He went into more detail about women who get sleeved to help with endometrial cancer, the cancer REVERSES/CURED and they come in for follow up or whatever and are crying and depressed. He is like "Why are you crying?????? THE CANCER IS GONE!!!" and the women just keep crying. Not sleeved yet but not ruling it out.
  11. Sleevetalker- wow! That sounds awesome. Mine blows constantly and sometimes i feel quite suffocated. Can't wait till I can GIVE IT AWAY!!!!!!!
  12. I would definetely check with your surgeon on this.. My surgeon told me to not use my cpap after surgery while my tummy is healing. Please be careful!!!
  13. I am sure your body is still using energy to heal... Please try to get rest and it is my understanding that pretty much one day POOF, people feel normal all of a sudden. I hope that is you soon. I have no experience to offer since I am not sleeved, but just try to rest. heal heal heal!!!!!
  14. My doctor said that I should expect to lose about 80% of my excess weight. Now, if I want to lose it ALL, then I have to be diligent and exercise and eat right till it al comes off. He is stating that based on his experience and what he has seen. So, once you lose the 80lbs, evaluate. If you want to lose more you may have to just be diligent and work harder. Work your sleeve and going to the gym. Don't be discouraged!!!!
  15. I have been researching "fruit infused water". Google it and maybe you will see some combinations that will entice you. I am going to try a cucumber basil one real soon. Or what about ice? You don't get as much but it might be a change.. Pre sleeved so I can't relate yet but I wish you the best!!
  16. I want one SO BAD!!! I am definetely going to ask. That would be so cool!!!! Did you get one???
  17. Not sleeved yet but I am so sorry to hear this. I think if ever in doubt call the nurse. Can you see anything? Maybe hold a pillow on it when you go to get up, like a little travel pillow. I am sure somebody experienced will chime in but I wanted you to know I care. Hope you are better soon.
  18. My coordinator did not mention that but as I am researching I am seeing some people do. I have all my tests Sept 14 but was planning on driving myself and going straight to work after. DO i need to take the day off?? Thank you sleeved friends!!
  19. SO did any of you who had endoscopies need someone to drive you home???
  20. My sister had bed bugs in her apartment in Vegas. They discovered the source as being the person upstairs who traveled out of the country. The apartment complex had to replace all of their furniture and move them to another apartment. They had to get their laundry washed a certain way and I think leave them in black trash bags outside on the patio for awhile. It was crazy!! If you rent you may need to notify somebody, if you own you may want to call your homeowners insurance. I pray it gets resolved quickly and thoroughly!
  21. Chubarella, I would just want to make SURE that if you pay your deductible off during this calendar year with the sleep study that your surgery WILL be done before the next year's deductible kicks in! My original surgeo had a financial interest in the sleep center he referred to (of course) and they accepted my insurance payment as payment in full. It helped me meet my out of pocket max so it was a HUGE blessing! I think each study was around $5-6 k. Anyways, I hope everything works out well for you! Maybe they will work out payments for you or something. Good luck!
  22. So, I have been a little freaked out about gallstones after surgery because I have had some symptoms. My vsg date us Sept 28 and in my pre-op testing I might get an ultrasound on my gallbladder to see if it is bad. So i went to youtube and googled gallstones and OMG!! There is a "natural" flush you can do to get the stones out without the pain. This guy had a video of the stones that came out of him, I am assuming via his poo, but they looked washed off. SORRY!!! Anyways, it was HORRIDLY AMAZING what came out and how much! Liver flukes and all!!!! Just wondering if anyone has tried this prior to surgery to help avoid PAINFUL gallstones after.... And after I post this I am going to gross myself out further by watching more youtube videos.
  23. OMG! I can NOT get my ticker to say sept 28!!!! I put it in and it goes right to the 27th!!!! I put in the 29th thinking it will show the 28th and it shows the 29th!!! PITB!!!!
  24. Hey Super, How was your recovery for your hyster? Woh did your hyster and who is your wls surgeon? Do you think it really made a difference using the davinci? That is part of the reason my date got pushed. It's the first date both surgeons, the O.R. and the davinci are available. Hoping the davinci is worth the wait!! hahaha or weight, since the food funeral will now continue a few extra weeks.
  25. Plano for me too! Long drive from Granbury but my understanding is the davinci really helps with recovery time. You will have to let me know what to expect!! This has been an adventure for me since FEBRUARY!!!!
