DrmBig4Evr reacted to LilMissDiva Irene in The Basics Boot Camp
I get lots of questions regarding how to get back on track. This journey is tough, and one thing I've learned is that I'm not perfect - but if I'm going to move past that I have to figure out how to forgive myself. For me, the main factor in my obesity was my inability to overcome this. So I would give up and gain all my weight back, and even more. I cannot do this to myself!!! I have to pick myself back up and keep it moving. I didn't go through 2 torturous painful weight loss surgeries to just keep giving up. Heck no!!!
So, along my Sleeve Journey, when I noticed I wasn't doing well and needed to get back on track this is what I did:
    The BASICS BOOTCAMP:
For 5 STRICT DAYS I will eat only...
Proteins: Seafoods, Poultry and eggs, Dairies, nuts/seeds including Peanut Butter.< /strong>
    Veggies: Green only.
    Fruits: None.
    Breads/Cereals/Other Carbs: None.
Fluids: One gallon of Water (128 oz.)
    Protein Drinks (RTD or Powder).
    Avoid: Sugar and Sodium
Once the 5 days are over, I am pretty much over the Sugar Carb Demon. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate carbs! I do need them to live a healthy life and since I workout a lot it is important I have them. However, I need GOOD carbs. Whole grains, fruits, veggies... But I don't need processed sugars. White carbs, in cereals, breads, rice... etc.
Lots will do the 5 day pouch test. liquids only is simply from being threatened with my life (post op) or if I'm just feeling sick and to let my Sleevie rest. That's it.
Good luck everyone! This journey is tough, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. Xoxo

I was sleeved July 9, 2012. And down 105 lbs. I was watching TV with my 4 Year old niece and they were advertising exercise equipment. They showed a woman holding up her old huge pants and Anna said like Cynthia.

Aetna denied me twice. UHC (my secondary) approved me and I was sleeved 5/28. My doc submitted for the 3rd time to Aetna a few days before my surgery date. Today I get a notification from Aetna that I was approved!!
I have no idea why they finally approved me. Nothing changed from the second time they denied me. Insurance companies confuse the hell out of me!

You will be able to drink more and more each day. In the next few days you will be able to drink a lot more liquids and you might begin think that you are messing up or that your tummy is bigger than it should be. Dont worry, once you start eating solids, all that will stop. You will begin to feel restriction then. Just go ahead and concentrate on getting in what you can and following your drs instructions.
You are heading in a good direction! Just relax and do what the dr says and you will be fine!
    Thinking good thoughts for you!

I am down a 100# and man I feel great. anyone wondering if you should have this surgery the answer is YES. I was on 600mg of blood pressure medication daily. And was about to be put on medication for diabetes. Now I'm of all medication, my daily blood pressure reading is about 117/78. I paid cash for my surgery and it was worth every penny.

It sounds like you are gaining muscle weight so you are undoubtedly losing fat weight even though the scale shows a net loss of zero. Hang in there! Your new muscle weight will eventually help with calorie burning. Hang in there!!

Hello, My name is Kathy and I am a whale (sorry but that's how I introduce myself, I say it before anyone else says it)
I have been obese all my life. I have tried every diet and eating plan I could afford to try. I also tried several medications like Dexedrine and I am currently on Victoza to try to lose weight (I am not a diabetic...yet). My doctor sent a referral to a surgeon here (I am in Nova Scotia, Canada) and we were told it would be a 10 year wait before I would even be seen in consultation. Well, after one year I was having a very low day and I wrote a letter to the surgeon and two months later I got a call to attend a weight loss surgery group meeting. They take 50 people off the wait list who qualify for the surgery and start with a group meeting. The surgeon Dr James Ellsmere told us about the surgery he performs, the Vertical Sleeve. We heard from the nutritionist, the physiotherapist and a patient who had the surgery one year prior. It was very informative.
But now I wait...they told us it would be 3 to 6 months before we get called back to meet with the psychiatrist and have a one on one consult with the surgeon. I feel I am ready for this but I do have a few questions for the surgeon before I make my final decision.
I am hoping I can also get some information from this forum to help me make the decision that is right for me.

I ate a whole apple split in two with almond butter for morning snack today. Skin and all. Just wanted to say it can be done. I felt a slight twinge in the GI tract afterwards, but overall, not too bad.

DrmBig4Evr reacted to lyndeeboo in Food is kinda gross when I slow down to actually taste it
Lately I've really been trying to eat slower, take much smaller bites and really chew my food before swallowing, as opposed to my usual consume-it-as-fast-as-I-can-shove-it-in-my-mouth technique when eating. I'm noticing that the things I eat are actually kind of gross tasting when I actually take the time to TASTE them. Wish I would have slowed down earlier in life and actually tasted things...maybe I wouldn't be being on the road to being sleeved

So, there was an event today that my job sponsored (outdoors). They had a zipline & I was so excited to try it!! :-) I got to the front of the line & as I was being harnessed, suddenly both myself & the man realized that the harness would NOT fit around my waist to be buckled....NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!! I was not not embarassed...I was just motivated. Imma hit it harder...even harder than I am now....and I'm hitting it hard. It's on my list now to try another zipline & next time around, darnit...I will fit, lol!!!! Any similar exeriences?? & just to think...I felt sooooo small this morning with my "getting too big" jeans on!

I had surgery on 03/14/13 and everyone have been telling me that I'm slimming down except I just can't see it. I know I do feel better with the exception of lower back pain. Well I finally got on the scale today for the first time since surgery and my motivation has been renewed:) I've lost 55 plus lbs:)

I'm out in Allen...insurance being submitted tomorrow, so can't really help you through experience, but I do know that eventually you will be able to eat "almost" anything. The key is to eat your Protein first, it will keep you satisfied longer. Keep at it and work hard and I'm sure you will see great results!

I don't wait..... Don't see a difference waiting or not. Horror of horrors...I drink with my meals too! Nothing like I did before, but I might sip along if I am eating spicy food or something that is on the dry side. I've never waited before or after though....

After all these years of being a carboholic, I have really felt a shift in the pendulum. I consume Protein all day and feel good. I don't even crave the carbs like I used to. Now this could be the surgery and/or the new food choices but I feel so much better. I have way more energy now. My skin is clearer and I feel like Rocky! I'm down another .5 pound which totals 22.5 since I started. I'm excited about this adventure.
