  1. I recently went for a fill at my doctor and I was told that there are new guidelines on drinking before eating. She said that drinking before eating is not only allowed but it is recommended as well! She said the reason for this is that it moistens you up and allows food to go into your stomach so it won't get stuck. She also said that it fills you up studies have shown that you don't eat as much if you drink before you eat. You're still NOT allowed to drink while you eat and you much wait at least 20 minutes after eating.
  2. I just received another fill about an hour ago....another 1/2CC for me Now I'll only be able to eat one roll of sushi at a time LOL.
  3. I've gotten my band filled to 1.75cc. I'm going in for another fill today
  4. I eat sushi (cooked and uncooked) all the time. Before I was banded I used to be able to polish 5-6 large rolls in one sitting. food poisining: If you eat at a decent sushi joint you should not have these issues. I know my sushi place gets a fresh fish delivery every single day. They are also very careful handling and storing the food. PB Worries: If you eat SLOWLY and in small amounts and you make sure the sushi is moist or dipped in (low calorie) soy you should not have any problems. Some people are more sensitive than others and you'll just have to test the foods yourself. I did ask my Dr. and nutritionist about sushi and they said it was perfectly fine. Weight Gain: Before I was banded I gained a decent amount just from (over)eating sushi. Now I have 2 regular sized rolls and I'm pretty filled. People think sushi is healthy but in reality the rice is high in carbs and most sushi chefs dress the rolls in all sorts of crap (mayo, high cal dressing etc.) Good luck and don't let one in a million stories scare you off .
  5. Jerry, I think that's a great idea. I've contacted the Scuba network to see what plugin they are using to get that feature in the forum. Thanks for your suggestion!
  6. I was told no drinks 5 minutes before I eat and 15 minutes after I eat. This was THE hardest thing for me to get used to. I used to drink a liter or two with each meal I had.
  7. I set this forum up myself and I was banging my head against the wall for a while until I figured out how to "fix" this issue.
  8. You must: 1) log into your CP 2) Click "Edit Options" 3) Scroll down to "Date & Time Options" 4) Under "Time offset" choose your correct timezone
  9. Not 100% sure what you're referring to but I think it means that there is now a reply to a post.
  10. What do you guys/gals suggest ? Do you think this will really work ??? Have you ever tried this on Ebay ?
  11. I had a nice hiatel hernia and my doc fixed it while she was in there. I haven't had acid since I was operated on. I think it was worth having the lap-band just for that alone!
  12. The first 6 weeks are about your stomach healing. I don't think the extra 4 ounces will make much of a difference.
  13. Sheila, What is your email address please ? The one you entered on your profile jwalker_2@yahoo.com is not correct and jwalker_2@yahoo.com is getting very upset at us
  14. I received my first fill today. The nurse practitioner at my doctors office administered the fill. It was painless and I only felt a tiny little prick. The entire fill took seconds and he had no problem finding the port. I'm pretty lucky since I know that my doctor's (Dr. Ren) nurse practitioner has more experience than most doctors. He even gave a seminar a month ago to many doctors on how to administer fills. I can feel my port and so can the np, which makes it really easy for him to give me my fills. I lost almost 20 pounds over the last 6 weeks and they gave me a 1 cc fill.
  15. I ate before my fill today and I had no problems. According to my doctor after your fill you should be on a liquid diet for 2 days and 2 days on a pureed diet.
  16. SisterMadly, I'm really happy that you found us Please let us know what happens once you conatct your insurance.
  17. Lori, I posted at a few of the larger Yahoo groups. The more people hear about the site the more people we'll have in the chat rooms.
  18. I'm sooo excited I think we should schedule a chat every week or every other week from now on at the same time. What do you guys/gals think ?
  19. Did the chat ever get started ?
  20. Did the 9:00 chat ever get off ?
  21. My doc never called me before surgery but she came to visit me the day after surgery. Why did your doc call you ?
  22. Alex Brecher replied to rajgrover's topic in The Lounge
Hi rajgrover, I had my lap-band procedure almost 4 weeks ago. I used Dr. Ren as well - great choice. She was really quick with my procedure and I really had a great experience with her. I was a little scared myself. once I was on the operating table the anesthesiologist explained what he was doing and I was out in minutes. Dr. Ren said hello and I was out a few seconds later. They have so many people in the operating room I can assure you they will not have a problem moving you to your bed. You won't know what's going on either way and you'll wake up in the recovery room. Once you're in your room a nurse will assist you and walk you to the bathroom (she will not come inside with you.) I don't know anybody else that had the procedure that had a bed pan or catheter. I got a little dizzy the first time I went to the john but after the first time it was much easier. They really want to make sure you urinate as soon as possible since they want to make sure you got the anesthesia out of your body and not sitting in your bladder. I felt absolutely nothing until after my surgery. I did have some pain but the meds I was given really took the edge off things and the pain went away pretty quickly. Make sure you walk around as much as possible after your surgery. I have 5 stairs leading to my house and I didn't have any problems. I asked Dr. Ren and she said that wasn't a problem. I'd ask her if I were you since she makes her decisions case by case. While Dr. Ren was operating on me she noticed that I had a Hiatal Hernia. She "fixed" it while she was in there and believe it or not I am totally cured of my acid reflux I'd been suffering for some time! I did have gas pains for a few days in my shoulders and other areas. These symptoms are very common and I've heard the more you move around the faster the gas dissipates. I drank bottled fat and sugar free flavored yogurts, "naked" (that's a brand name) fruit juices, slim fasts, and low calorie broths. Good luck with your surgery! You'll do fine, quit worrying and start planning a new you
  23. I was supposed to go out of town this eve but us new yorkers are having some power problems. See http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/08/14/power.outage/index.html for more info. I would have joined you but I had no access to a PC. I have my laptop now but the battery is going on me. If power goes back on I'll be in the chat room 9 this eve.
  24. Chris, I'm going overseas for a week so I will not be able to participate ;-( . I'm going to send out an email and let's see what happens. Please let me know if the chat was successful or not.
  25. Desiree, Sad to say the chat room didn't take off like thie forum. If there is someone you're interested in talking to just PM tham and make up a time to meet them in the room. I hope once the site becomes more popular we'll start having weekly chat room meets.
