I make crackers out of almond flour to dip in it. Very low carb and gluten free. My favorite is the Olive.

I love salads, but I can't tolerate any raw veggies, or some cooked. The gas pressure is just too much for me.

Roll out very thin on parchment paper, using a pizza cutter, cut out sized crackers. Sprinkle with whatever salt or seasoning you like. What is hummus. I have never heard of it . Lol yes I live a sheltered life lol. I am 16 months out and I still don't like the feeling of eating anything that has a solid base as in meats. I eat very small portions. I eat alot of my own possessed veggies out of my garden . I made a mild salsa . Grandma's old Recipe it called for sugar so I used stevia instead and it turned out great . I put it on all my meats and they are much easier to get down

    You put in the time.
    You put in the money.

You go to all the appointments and you jump through all the hoops.
    You do the pre-op diet.

    You have the surgery.

You cared enough about yourself to make the commitment to WLS and you physically and permanently alter your body...

And then you get mad because someone tells you not to eat the d@mn taco? Not to drink alcohol or soda 2.783 days after surgery? To put down the freaking pizza'? To stop eating bread/rice/pasta/bananas/hoagies/20oz steaks TEMPORARILY while your body heals and you get to your goal weight? To actually stick to YOUR doctor's plan?

Even better, you get mad when they only do so AFTER you ASKED????

    SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?

Yes. I'd guess most of us have head hunger and cravings. I'd guess most of us had a nibble or sip of something off plan. I've no doubt that most of us were not 100% compliant 100% of the time. But I'd also guess that those of us who have done this, gotten to goal weight and stayed there have been compliant the majority of the time. I'd also guess that many of us who have been successful would appreciate a swift kick in the rear if/when we ask a question I bet we already know the answer to.

It's not rocket science and this isn't Romper Room. Make good choices, stick to your doctor's orders or don't, but don't get mad if you fail to get the results you want when you refuse to do what you are supposed to do. And don't get mad when someone tells you that what you are putting in your mouth isn't the best idea in the world even though you want it right now.

Value yourself more than that. Seriously.

I felt the same as you, I've had the band for 3+ years. Up until I had a slip last Sept. My surgeon emptied it completely, and yes, I blamed the band and wanted it out. I read all the horror stories and bought into them. Then doing my research and being with no restriction until about a month ago, I realized the band want at fault. The slip wasn't the band fault. It was mine. I hurt whenever I ate, I threw up whenever I ate. I was the one eating too fast, I was the one knowing I was eating too much, but would have just one more bite. It was me making myself miserable. I'm just now this month at proper restriction and I'm going too finally after 3 years, make the most of this. Sit down, take a good hard look at every situation that you were miserable with the band and maybe find out what was really going on. I'm not judging, and maybe your situation isn't like mine, but before you get discouraged and feel desperate to get it out maybe you can give it a go with the band.

    Hi there,
Was inspired by B-52's post comment where he said he eats like a bird and thought I'd ask those of you who've been successful how much you all eat a day, roughly...
I just had a (big) hernia fixed and am back to being a band newbie. It's weird and exciting and want to adjust my expectations to what a "normal" amount of post-band food is. I know I overeat.
    Thanks!

When I told my NP I really wanted salad, she asked me what I missed about it and my answer was, like many, the crunch. What she told me made so much sense. She said that (once I was allowed), I should make a "salad" of toppings. The peppers, onions, seeds, cheese, dressing, tomatoes, radishes, carrots, etc. held all the nutritional value and flavor without the filler of the lesser nutritious lettuce.

I regularly go to salad bars now and make a "salad" of toppings including veggies, nuts, cheese and dressing. It's just as delicious, if not more, and much more satisfying.

    Good stuff!

Jeannette, green zone is where you are restricted enough to not be hungry between meals. You are satisfied after eating a cup of food. Red zone is too much restriction and yellow is not enough.

I love my band, December 2015 will be 4 years ive had it. Negatives ? Having to rethink my food habits, lots of Water , exercising 3-4 x a week. That's it for negatives !!! Positives ? Loving how I look and feel from rethinking my food habits, lots of water, exercising 3-4x a week. That is all.

Burps, puke, reflux, too tight, not tight enough, stalls, ect.....that WAS the hardest part of all....first 6 months or so adjusting myself to the demands of the band....NOT the other way around.
But once I got that down, and changed my life long bad habits, it HAS been the easy road....and still is.
Been at my optimal weight for over 3 years now, not gaining or loosing, a process finished, a success complete...no fear of gaining any weight back as long as the band is there doing what it is doing.
Why all the negativity???? It's only my opinion but I think many people rersist change, refuse to adapt. So getting through all the Burps, puke, reflux, too tight, not tight enough, stalls, etc...is too much and they back away?
It's also why, again my opinion, is the reason many Dr.'s are staying away from the band...the patient has too much influence....with other surgeries it is what it is...no adjusments. Deal with it.
Coming up on 5 years and I could not be more pleased with my life changing choice to have this surgery...

Thank you! I'll be banded on the 28th. I do see a lot of negative comments about the band. But I'm not letting them sway me. It's a tool and I'm gonna use it! You are an inspiration! Thank you!!!

Well I have seen so much negativity on the band lately....and it kinda brings me down. so for those of you who are against or on the fence about the lap band, or struggling with your weight loss, I just want to say.
The lap band is working for me!
    100 lbs down!
Yup....crazy. 11 months with the band.
Has it been easy? Hell no.
Burps, puke, reflux, too tight, not tight enough, stalls, ect..
Was it the "easy road"? Definitely not.
Changing the way I eat, the way I exercise, the way i think about food, learning what I can and can't eat so I don't get sick in public or with friends and family. Learning to enjoy meals with the family with band friendly food.
And even if it was the easy way, my hubby still forked out over $12k, sooooo...i know it wasn't easy working for that money.
Have I learned alot? You bet.
I still struggle. What if I fail? Am I really hungry? Why do I weigh myself every dang day? What do I say when I am with people and can't or don't want to eat? And I have to really be honest about what I eat...
And I still haven't found the idea of exercising "fun". But I know I have to do it. And I never regret it when I am finished. I like barely being able to walk because I totally crushed my workout.
So is it going to last forever...my weight loss? I sure hope so. I've worked hard for this. I've followed all the rules, and in the process i have learned so much about myself. I have come way too far to fail. This relationship between me and the band is a tricky one. But this IS the new me..so for now I am going to enjoy this victory....and have a pumpkin latte. ..cheers!

To me this reads as a psychological issue...and your beliefs and thoughts regarding your self concept should be addressed with a mental health professional who works with a bariatric population.

Weight does influence your overall health state...so it is essential for your beliefs to become aligned with your weight loss.

Best wishes for this side trip along with your journey...
