I pray God gives your surgeon and surgical team the skills to perform your procedure without any complications and I pray you have a speedy, complication-free recovery!
Once this phase is over, hang on...you're in for one heck of a journey, with an incredible new you waiting at the finish line!

Hi all- I'm not sure how active the traffic is here, but tomorrow is my day and I could use some prayer for a successful surgery and NO complications. I have good trust in my surgeon but after all, this is major surgery.
    thanks to all!

Nurse here. We often use wrist because it's a large reliable vein, but if swollen or painful or hot to touch it's infiltrated and needs to be removed!

mi75 got a reaction from ChristmasJanet in Tomorrow is my day. Getting very nervous!
I can't believe that June 23rd has come so fast. I am ready, but still a good amount of nerves have set in.
I have had SO little in the way of calories and nutrients over the past week. My appetite has just completely vanished on the 2 wk pre-op diet and it has been very hard to intake anything. I've had mostly shakes, and now I"m hoping I haven't ingested so little that i will be in trouble. Good news is today I get to have REGULAR juices, popcicles, etc to carry my blood sugar through tomorrow.
I know that there is a religious board, but there is very little activity on there. I would like to ask those who are so inclined to keep me in your thoughts, prayers and such over the next few days.
I will see everyone over on the post-op board!!!!!

very good advice. Thank you for your kind words. I have been pre-op for about a year so it has been a year of research and such, but now THIS part of it is surfacing, the 'what the heck will I eat' questions!

mi75 got a reaction from nerms in Baked Beans and other foods...
hello to all the post-op folks on this forum! my surgery is in 2 days and I have many questions about the success/failures of eating certain foods afterwards...I hope you will help me with a few insights!
    1. Baked Beans- my family and I love Bush's baked Beans and the Protein count in them is great. But do they give anybody problems due to the sugar content (brown sugar, molasses, etc)??
    2. Kraft Mac/Cheese- another fave in my house. We have small kids AND live on a tight budget so every couple of weeks when the bank account is dry we have Kraft spirals for dinner with some ground beef mixed in...
    3. Peanut Butter toast- a staple Breakfast. I know eggs are great for me post-op but I'm sure I will only be able to eat SO many days of eggs before I need a break...
    4. Spaghetti- a weeknight staple for my family- I assume I would be able to have a very small amount of the Pasta with a nice serving of sauce (which I also put some sort of ground meat into for protein)
Now...I KNOW that the purpose of this surgery is to re-start my eating habits and essentially give me a restart button. I absolutely believe that and I fully intent to eat very well 90% of the time. However, there are times when the budget, time or travel will play a big role and I may need to turn to one of these options. I would appreciate any feedback about these foods or any other 'typical' foods. I thank you all in advance!

    such great info. thanks again!
my nut gave me a little 4 page guide to what to eat and at what phases. it includes ALL foods, including carbs like pastas, bread, rice, potatoes, Cereal, etc. so it is hard for me to guage the realities of what to expect.
i believe that my bariatric clinic approaches this much like a general weight loss plan, and not so much like a carb-limited plan-as far as i can read in the info- so I love being able to come here and ask these questions. THIS is where i think I can get more realistic answers to my questions. thanks again!!!!!

Center of Excellence status is similar to Magnet Status. It has a lot to do with the statistics, results, morbidity/mortality ratings, numbers, etc.
Most insurances require a Center of Excellence NOT because it is where they choose to pay, but more because these facilities have proven themselves successful, safe, and with the best outcomes. (best outcomes is HUGE in nursing and healthcare).
Keep reading in these forums, post lots of questions, do lots of research. Talk to multiple doctors, nurses, patients. maybe attend a few support group meetings.
ALL of us are here because we failed, in one way or another, other 'diets'. hang in there, the answers will come!

mi75 got a reaction from Lake girl in 86% will regain the weight they lost after WLS
i would agree that EVERYONE regains SOMETHING from their lowest weight.
my nut told me that once i hit my 'goal' or lowest weight, it is very natural for the body to gain a few pounds and then 'settle in' to a spot where it is a natural weight for it.
my 'goal' according to surgeon is 125 but i remember how easy and natural it was around 135 and expect my body to settle there. hopefully!
i don't think it's that everyone regains it ALL, just that there is a natural small gain to be expected. good luck!

nectar Protein does a Grapefruit which I mix with crystal light lemonade and it is spot on for fresca! i would guess that if you could find an off-brand of stir-in drink mixes (i don't think crystal light does grapefruit) in grapefruit and mix with lemon you would have it.

mi75 got a reaction from sofi_sunshine in What is the real point of this surgery?
you will find that most of the people here 'watched what i ate and exercised' so many times in our lives we lost count.
when i had joined weight watchers for the 29th time i finally got a clue that it wasn't working for me...
there is no secret to surgery, it is simply a TOOL to aid us. this tool DOES eliminate a majority of the grelin producing section of the stomach (it is also still produced in the brain) AND limits capacity.
My surgeon told me that right now my stomach at capacity is probably around 76-90 oz. full, it's the size of a football. post-op, my new filled tummy will be around 6 oz., the size of a smallish banana. obviously if it can only hold that small amount, i have less calories to both burn and utilize.
i am simply trying to put myself on a level playing field so that i have a chance to be in control.

ditto on the yogurt, light is the best and no ADDED sugar. i'm doing the Yoplait Greek 100 variety, 13-15 Proteins per serving. whoop!
