  1. I had an incision right where my bra band would lay. I don't think I wore a bra for at least two weeks. Even when I went for my one week check up to get my staples out I just wore a soft cup camisole under my shirt and walked with my arms crossed..lol. But then again I am not one of those people that feels the need to wear a bra all the time. As soon as I walk in the door to my house the first thing I do is take my bra and shoes off, or at least before surgery that's what I did. I was about a 40G then and now that I'm down to a DDD it's not as uncomfortable so I tend to keep it on more.
  2. Wow! You are just AWESOME Deb. You are such an inspiration to so many of us sleevers!
  3. I couldn't do cold at first but around day 9 it got better. I started that evening with a slushie then slowly started to add colder protein drinks during the mornings.
  4. I just had my 2 month check up with Dr. Hoehn and I am down 40lbs. I'm hoping to remember to do my measurements tomorrow. I was almost in a size 20 pants and am now in some of my bigger 14s, from 40/42 G bra to a 38DDD, usually wore 22/24 shirts at lane bryant or xl t-shirts and now 14/16 and larges. I even wore a bathing suit in public a couple weeks ago when I took my daughter and her friend to the Water park (which I would have NEVER done before)! Life is good! How is everyone else doing?
  5. I was about on the same pace. Started a stall about 2 weeks out that lasted forever..or so it seemed. I think I was about 25 or 30 pounds at 5 weeks, but weeks 6 and 7 have been really good. It will come (or go as the case may be) so don't stress out about it. Like you said you're LOSING so that's what I have to remind myself of too at times. I've accepted that I may be a slow loser and that is okay because I know that once it's gone it's not coming back!
  6. I absolutely LOVE Dr. Hoehn! I was fortunate that my insurance paid 100% of my surgery or else I would've probably been looking to go to Mexico too. I am a member at Anytime Fitness and I was working with a trainer there during my pre-op just to help with my weight loss during my liquid diet. I haven't been back to working with her again since surgery just been doing treadmill and chasing kids . She just met me at the gym the other day to do my measurements for me since I was about a month out. I have 4 more sessions contracted with her as soon as I'm released for working out again (hopefully after my June 20 Dr. check up). She is not gonna be with my gym anymore after that. I think she took a job downtown KC around Westport area. I was hesitant to tell her about my surgery since she's a trainer thinking she would judge but she has been very supportive. And yeah I live in North KC, Smithville. Good luck with ur weight loss and keep in touch!
  7. I really need to get back to the gym too. I think it will help a lot. And I totally feel ya on the stall. At like 2 weeks out I stalled at 200.0 for what seemed like forever. It never fluctuated to 200.4 or 200.2 just 200.0 like it was just teasing me..lol.
  8. Well technically it's been 5 weeks but here's my new "official" measurements taken by my trainer. Weight 223 to 194 -29 BMI 43.6 to 37.5 Body Fat 46.8 to 44.2 -2.6 Arms 16 to 14.5 -1.5 Legs 27 to 25 -2 Waist 51 to 46.5 -4.5 Hips 53 to 50 -3 Bust 48 to 44.5 -3.5 Total 14.5
  9. I have a herniated disk in my neck and had been going to physical therapy for about 4 months 3x a week prior to being sleeved. So far so good. Haven't even had to go to therapy since surgery.
  10. I think mine said 3 months as well.
  11. Personally I think I would have been fine alone. I didn't have any pain after leaving the hospital, but everyone is different. My parents came and stayed a couple weeks so my husband didn't have to take off work but that was just cause I have small kids.
  12. A big ol sonic coke is one of the things I miss the most! I ended up getting a bag of sonic ice and I use it to make me a sf tropical punch kool-aid slushie with my ninja almost every night.
  13. Per my plan I could start having basically solids at day 8. Supposed to eat proteins foods for first month then at week 5 (next week..yippee!) I can start adding cooked veggies and fruits minus citrus. Just curious when everyone else started eating things like hamburger meat, popcorn, top of pizza, bread, chips? I am not a volume eater so once I am able to eat these things I am fine with just eating a bite or a couple. I also know I can't eat some of these all the time only on occasion and in moderation.
  14. In my opinion and experience the c-section was ten times worse than the sleeve surgery. I was lucky too though with my sleeve I didn't have any of the gas pains that some had.
  15. I am 3 days post op and I haven't had any real problems so far. The only thing that has bothered me is when I try to drink I get this tightness in the top of my throat. I'm wondering if it's just still from some swelling or maybe reflux. I'm leaning more towards swelling because it hurts immediately when I swallow. Did anyone else have this problem?
  16. I've read most people say they have some sort of sign when they are full like burp or hiccup. When/if you do overeat will you go ahead and throw up or do you just feel bad for a while? If you do throw up is it more like you just go make yourself do it so you can stop feeling bad or is it like you have to run to the bathroom? And the bad feeling you get is it more like pain or more like the feeling you got pre-sleeve when you ate way too much? I don't plan on overeating of course but just curious what would happen if you did. Also when you first started eating again was it easy to tell when you were full or did you have problems telling what your "sign" was at first?
  17. My plan says canned chicken at two weeks. "Regular" grilled chicken or any other meats is five months. I think some others have mentioned they could have it earlier maybe at like 3 months. I would just ask your Dr. or NUT.
  18. I've read several people on here talk about the Gas-x strips but when I asked if I was allowed to take them the nurse said that they wouldn't do any good. Since the gas is from when they "inflate" your stomach she said the only thing that would help is just walking as much as possible.
  19. Has anyone tried the Bariatric Advantage multi vitamin crystals? Just curious what it tasted like.
  20. I've been working out with a trainer 3x a week and doing zumba the other two weekdays. I have been on my pre-op liquid diet for a week now and even with all the protein I'm getting pretty weak. I have 7 days til my surgery so I'm just going to stick to my cardio for the rest of the time and not worry with the weights. I'm trying 3 miles in the morning on Walk Away the Pounds and then in the evenings I plan to walk around the neighborhood or do some Wii Fit while everyone else eats supper.
  21. These were recommended to me by my therapist and nutritionist: Mindless Eating. Why We Eat More Than We Think by Brian Wansink, PhD The Emotional First Aid Kit. A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia L. Alexander PsyD (this is the only one that I've read) WLS for Dummies
  22. So it's getting closer to my surgery date (13 days...yipee!!) I find myself with a long list of "what ifs" like a lot of others do. One of my many wonders is if this is going to turn out being another surgery like some in the past, a fad if you will. Years ago there was stomach stapling then there's the LapBand which seemed really great but now from some of the stories I've read on here seems not so great. I guess I just wonder if years from now Doctors and sleevers are gonna look back and think "hmm, maybe this wasn't such a great idea after all." I know there is some longterm research for gastrectomies and such but I still worry. I think the whole gherlin thing is probably what bothers me the most. From what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, it helps in regulating body temp, growth, and cognitive thinking. Just curious in it's absence how this affects you in the long run especially the cognitive thinking part.
  23. Isolate Whey Protein isolate is a very pure form of whey protein, containing less than 1 percent lactose. Isolate contains anywhere from 90 to 98 percent protein in each scoop. Because isolate is highly filtered, it loses some of the immunity-boosting properties. The high filtering process also increases isolate's price tag. Concentrate Most whey supplements contain whey protein concentrate because it is easier and cheaper to produce. Concentrate retains more lactose per serving--about 4 percent at the very most--and more of the immunity enhancing effects of whey. The actual protein per serving can be considerably less than in isolate--ranging from 29 to 89 percent per serving. 24. I have UHC and did not have the 40 bmi for 5 years. I also submitted to my coordinator seven years history because there was a year in there that I did not see a Dr. and another year I only saw the Dr. for pregnancy (fortunately it was with twins so I didn't have a problem eating my way to "morbidly obese" status). I lost a pretty good bit after delivery and was only at a BMI over 40 for the past two years. With all that they approved me, so hopefully they will do the same for you. Good luck.
  25. My brother emailed me this article. Just thought it was interesting for those who may be contemplating getting the band instead of bypass or sleeve. http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/healthday/651049.html?chan=rss_topStories_ssi_5=.AOLWebSuite .AOLPicturesFullSizeLink { height: 1px; width: 1px; overflow: hidden; } .AOLWebSuite a {color:blue; text-decoration: underline; cursor: pointer} .AOLWebSuite a.hsSig {cursor: default}
