  1. I have UHC and did not have the 40 bmi for 5 years. I also submitted to my coordinator seven years history because there was a year in there that I did not see a Dr. and another year I only saw the Dr. for pregnancy (fortunately it was with twins so I didn't have a problem eating my way to "morbidly obese" status). I lost a pretty good bit after delivery and was only at a BMI over 40 for the past two years. With all that they approved me, so hopefully they will do the same for you. Good luck.
  2. My brother emailed me this article. Just thought it was interesting for those who may be contemplating getting the band instead of bypass or sleeve. http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/healthday/651049.html?chan=rss_topStories_ssi_5=.AOLWebSuite .AOLPicturesFullSizeLink { height: 1px; width: 1px; overflow: hidden; } .AOLWebSuite a {color:blue; text-decoration: underline; cursor: pointer} .AOLWebSuite a.hsSig {cursor: default}
  3. This is so good to hear! There's nothing I like better than an icy cold drink. Hopefully I will be able to tolerate them afterwards.
  4. I've read several people say how cold foods and drinks really don't set well with them or cause stomach spasms. I am just curious if this is something that has continued to be the case for you or is it something that went away after a couple months?
  5. My doctor said to use Bariatric Fusion during my 2 week pre-op so I ordered the sample pack from their website. After hearing all the stories on here of how horrible the protein is, I must say I was surprised at how much I like them (although you might ask me again after that's all I've had to "eat" for weeks and I might feel the same as the rest of you.. ). I have tried all of them except the unflavored. The orange was my least favorite. It wasn't gross, but it just wasn't orange enough for me I guess. I had the cappuccino flavor this morning and I LOVED it. I will definitely be ordering more of it and next time I think I'll make a frozen cappuccino out of it. I just ordered some Unjury and Nectar today and from what I have read these seem to be the most favorite so we'll see!
  6. All the post-op diets are different but here is what my program manual says for me: Drink at least one protein meal replacement drink daily starting immediately. Start chewable vitamins at day 8.
  7. I have thought the same thing. I know to some degree every doctor will do things a little differently, but the differences for this surgery seem to be from one end of the spectrum to another. I also realize each patient is different, but I agree with you that there should be a little more uniform policy in place. This is something that has concerned me while making my decision to have the surgery, and while it is not going to keep me from being sleeved I plan on talking to my doctor about it in a couple weeks to get his opinion. I think this can cause post surgery results to be a little misleading. As you can tell from reading posts on here, some people are slow losers and some lose really fast. Some of those results can be from the fact that some people are on 2 or 3 week liquid preop diets and then anywhere from 3-6 weeks post op liquid diets while others only have to fast 1 or 2 days before surgery and can start trying to eat soft foods within the first week. Which is why it is so important for people to not judge their results based on what they read about others.
  8. I haven't had my sleeve yet, but I have thought about this happening. I cook A LOT and I really don't notice until I pay attention how much I lick my fingers or taste of stuff. Also a lot of times when I'm not paying attention my twins will want to share their Snacks or something with me and I'll eat it without even thinking about it (which sometimes is not a good thing cause they will pick up anything and eat it). Sometimes once I realize I ate something they put in my mouth, I'll be like "okay that was food from today right?" I'm gonna have to really start paying attention after my surgery!
  9. I think it's completely up to you. You're the only one who knows your struggles, and you're the only one that knows if you have the determination/will-power to make the necessary changes. If you feel that you can't do it any other way and are willing to do what it takes then by all means go for it!! Dr. Hoehn is my doctor as well. I will be sleeved on April 13. This website is so great and can pretty much answer any question you might have. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  10. I've already listed a few things in this post but when I was getting dressed today I thought of another one..to be able to wear my wedding ring again!! It hasn't fit since I was pregnant with the twins in 2007.
  11. I will have to say that Jan does seem a little absent minded to me at times too. She literally emailed/called and asked me the same question 5 times. I also found that I got a faster response if I emailed her. I will also agree that when I asked questions she answered very vaguely. That being said I have met with Dr. Hoehn twice so far and I have nothing but good things to say about him. He was more attentive to me than my PCP. He didn't rush me by any means and he answered all my questions. I have also talked to numerous people who have been sleeved by him and at Heartland and not one person has had a negative comment about him as a Dr. As far as the insurance goes and finding out EXACTLY what the requirements are and what they are going to pay, I never got a definite answer til my hubby got on the phone with UHC and it only took him about 10 minutes to get a definite answer.
  12. Wow! Hope you are able to work something out. After reading a lot of stories on here I realize how blessed I am to have such great insurance. i can't believe all the price quotes they gave you. What happened to all that "$11,999 sleeve special" they have posted on their website?
  13. We love Just Dance at our house, even my 3 year olds. It is definitely a workout! I also have Wii Fit which I love cause it keeps up with all the calories you have burned each day as well as with each activity and your weight/bmi. Love Zumba as well. I have the Jillian Michaels too but I don't hardly ever do it cause I tend to do better with dance/aerobics. Not a big fan of traditional exercise (even though I know I need to do it too)!
  14. Yup Dr. Hoehn did my surgery did he do yours as well? He will be doing mine April 13. There are quite a bit of sleevers on here from KC. We have been talking about having some get togethers/support group.
  15. Did Dr. Hoehn do ur surgery?
  16. I bought some about a month ago at Vitamin Shoppe, and I thought it was very good. The only one I have tried so far is the orange peach. I haven't really tried a whole lot of Protein drinks yet, but considering most people say how gross they are I was surprised that this was so good. I will definitely be buying more.
  17. 1) Be in pictures with my kids 2) Play softball and tennis again 3) See "downstairs" 4) Have amazing sex 5) Take my kids to waterpark 6) Not have to make an excuse why I can't go to Girls Night Out 7) Of course Shopping somewhere besides Lane Bryant and onestopplus.com 8) Have confidence to finish my last year of college 9) Start taking dance classes again 10) To not be asked "When are you due?" and have to reply "I'm not pregnant"
  18. I don't think so. I do the same thing. I'm a 16/18 now and have clothes in my closet down to 12. In the end I would love to be an 8/10 so for my birthday a couple weeks ago I bought myself two really cute dresses in my goal size and have them hanging in the front of my closet for motivation. (or are you saying u want to lose enough weight before surgery to fit in the jacket?)
  19. April 13!!! Start preop liquid diet the 30th. Can't wait!!!
  20. Just got a call from Dr. Hoehn's office and my date is April 13. Can't wait!!
  21. Just got my date today, April 13 with Dr. Hoehn (kansas city)!! I have about 6 people coming to stay with me for a whole week at the end of March which also happens to be the same week I have to start my liquid diet. It's gonna be hard! I put a picture of me when I used to be skinny on the fridge and pantry so I can look at it and be reminded of why I have to keep on track.
  22. Thanks ya'll! I actually got my approval letter in the mail late yesterday. I mean I could've had an answer last week if they would have called or I guess I should've called but I was trying not to bother them. Nonetheless I have my approval now and am soooooooooo excited!
  23. Hubby comes in from the mailbox yesterday evening and hands me a letter. It's from UHC. I was so nervous and thinking if they sent a letter they must have turned me down, but they APPROVED me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so overwhelmed with emotions. Now all the nerves are setting in for sure. I have to call my coordinator today to schedule my surgery, but I am hoping for the second week in April. I am so ready for this journey, but at the same time all the "what ifs" are driving me crazy. I just want to say thanks to all who post of their experiences on this website. During my 6 month supervised diet time, I have become obsessesed somewhat in reading all that I could about others experiences and research and ya'll have given me so much information. This site was truly a blessing to me.
  24. wow congrats on the weight loss!! Have you ever been to onestopplus.com? They have plus size clothes that pretty much all come in petite. The prices are very reasonable too.
