recovery time off work?
I think it really just depends and you might not know until after. I totally thought I would be good after a week because I generally heal pretty fast and I'd had two c-sections so I thought I have a good sense for how i would feel. What a joke. NO WAY was I ready after a week!! I am over 3 weeks now and totally exhausted, but definitely getting better each day. I am going back to work on Monday and it will be 3 weeks, 5 days. The first week back I am going back 1/2 time.

Pure Exhaustion
It seems to be more common than not. I know right now I am having trouble getting off the couch. I spoke to two friends who had GB a few years ago and they both said the same thing. It took about 4-6 weeks before they stopping feeling like they were going to just fall over. I am waiting patiently since this has been horrible.

Having Trouble Eating
I had surgery 9/22 and I am eating the EXACT same things as you. The only thing I had added is refried Beans. Just give yourself an extra week. I am having a hard time and am not inclined to push it. vomiting is not good for you so just take it slow.

Finally Post Op and in pain
I'm feel for you. I woke up in a lot of pain too and I agree-my c-section had NOTHING on this. The good news is it doesn't last long. The first two days were bad, but then it got better each day. Hang in there!

1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
1-4-Ignorance is not bliss. You need to know what you are getting into. Let me try to address your questions. Keep in mind, there is no one size fits all. Everyone is different. Is this nausea the same as having a stomach flu? Or is it different? The dietitian told me it was different. You feel bad, you are queezy but when you actually vomit it's not as violent as a flu or food poisoning situation. Would you agree or disagree with that statement? It is more like motion sickness to me. I never vomited from it (there was nothing in my stomoach), but I have had dry heaves. Secondly, was it pretty much non stop? Or did it come and go in waves? Waves. I have fold it stimulated by drinking something cold. Room temp keeps it at bay. Thirdly, and most importantly, were you taking the anti nausea meds? If so, were they helping none? Not since I left the hospital. I would categorize it as bad enough to require medication Just plan on being in some level of discomfort for a week. I am two weeks out and have absolutely no pain and nausea only when I drink too fast and it is cold-so I try not to do that Actually what has had the most impact on me is the extreme fatigue I feel. That I just wasn't prepared for.

Just got home
I still get woozy when I drink something too cold and Popsicles fall in there. Don't even worry about eating right now. I don't think I touched anything remotely solid until I had been home three days. The pain lasts about a week, but gets better each day. I am two weeks out and no pain at all.

September sleevers wanted!
Today is two weeks since my sleeve. It's been a rough two weeks, but down 17 pounds :Dancing_wub:

Had a scrambled egg!!!!
Well, you inspired me to try a scrambled egg and it was NOT pretty. I only ate about 1/3 of the egg and I ate it very slowly. At first I thought all was well, but about a 1/2 hour later I started puking it up and continued on and off for about an hour. Won't be trying that again for a while

1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
Pamela...I know EXACT how you feel. I too did not expect the recovery to be so difficult. You just don't read too much about that on these boards. Everyone says how great they feel and so I assumed I would as well-big mistake. I am like you. The paid was horrific on the day of surgery and 2-3 days after. Since then, it is the extreme weakness that has gotten me down. I can barely pull myself off the couch. I know I am not getting enough water and protein, which I am sure is contributing to the problem, but I can't get it down. I don't know how people do it. I sip, sip, sip and barely get in about 30 oz of water a day. I am now 1 day shy of two weeks out and while there is absolutely no pain, I am as exhausted and lethargic as ever. I can't wait to feel better.

Don't worry Debra...you are still pretty swollen. It will all drop off and then some

September sleevers wanted!
Is anyone else hungry? I woke up this morning absolutely STARVING! This is the first time I have felt real hunger since surgery and I am just wondering if I am alone. I know sometime stomach acid is mistaken for hunger, but I have had so many issues with acid that I definitely know the difference. I am making a pured soup and I'll see how I feel after that, but I was curious.

September sleevers wanted!
Nexxie...You are still really swollen. It is very normal for weight to be up after surgery. Don't even step on the scale. There is no point right. Just keep to the liquids and take it really slow. Sip, sip, sip.

How many days in hospital for vsg?
I spent one night, but wish it was two. You will DEFINITELY need someone to take the lead with the kids for a couple of days so plan for that.
-
Parents who have been sleeved, I have a ?
My kids are little (2 and 4) so I just told them I would be gone for a couple of days, but you might want to rethink bringing them to the hospital. Everyone is different of course, but I looked like hell the day of surgery. I was all drugged up, but still in pain. I couldn't really focus on anything and I would think that would be pretty scary for a kid. By the next day I had a better handle on myself.

How much weight should be lost?
Are you taking any protein shakes? You do need some protein and if you are not getting it, your body will hold on to everything.

Kaiser hasn't a clue what they are doing.
Get a height check. I was in the same situation and we checked my height a low and behold-we were using the wrong number. It made the difference!

Fast tracked?
I too went pretty fast through Kaiser SSF. I think that may be more typical of them than not. Who is your doctor? Good luck and keep us posted!

C-Section vs VSG
I have had 2 c-sections and was just sleeved last Wednesday. The sleeve was soooo much worse for me initially. The difference is that the pain doesn't last as long. The day of surgery and the two days after were a nightmare. By Saturday I was feeling better and each day has been progressively better.

Few days out
Hey Mashezia and gayle...just realized you are both in Tacoma. Loved the Northwest! My dad was stationed at Fort Lewis for 3.5 years and I graduated from high school there. If there was any other place I would live, it would be Washington...rain and all

Few days out
Jordien...you might want to call in about the lungs. If you have mucus settling that could easily turn into something else. They may want to give you something for it. Lovin the idea of Crystal Lite Popsicles :glare: I need to look for those! Well, I was able to sleep on my side a bit last night. That felt good. My back has been killing me! I got a good 5.5 hours, which is the longet I have slept sinec surgery. Felt good :thumbup1:

Did anyone else gain the first days post-op?
Not even remotely interested in food, but I would love to gulp down a big glass of something. Just feeling the desire to really wet my throat lol I was up a bout 5 pounds when I came home and I have lost about 3. I can certainly tell I am swollen so i am not concerned.

Few days out
Today (day 3 post op) I got in about 30 grams of protein and 25 oz of water. Not were I should be, but an improvement over yesterday. I'll shoot for higher numbers tomorrow!

Everyday eating
The only thing I heard I will never actually be able to tolerate is carbonated beverages. I'll miss the occasionally diet pepsi
