July 4th Cookouts Muuuuaaaahhh!!
You are absolutely NOT wrong. I think you took a very good approach for everyone. Even if you weren't on a liquid diet, it's not unheard of to ask people to bring their own main items to a cookout with the host providing other things, especially if the host is cleaning the house to get ready and offering up their pool. Sorry if this comes off tersely, but the reaction from your daughter seems a little selfish on her part Maybe this will become a new tradition, you know, unless your daughter wants a grilled veggie or salmon burger next year if you provide the meats Hang in there! You're making a great decision to protect yourself and health - that's most important.

Tricare Prime....Triwest issues
Are you willing to travel into KC? Ft. Leavenworth is really not that far at all when you come down K7. I'm in western Shawnee by K7 and Johnson Drive and go in to see Dr. Fearing at Malley Surgical in Mission. Shawnee Mission Med Center has the Bariatric Center (http://www.kcbariatric.com/compare.php), which is off 95th and K7.

Make sure your Surgeon is for real
That's horrible and sad. Never underestimate the mindset of someone who is desperate. I really wonder if this "doctor's" patients were that desperate, without insurance or who knows.

Does it feel weird??
If I sneeze really hard I can fee the band. I can feel where the port is located when I touch it. It seems like it will be weird or scary, but I look at the band as no different than a joint replacement or breast implants... just another medical device.

Forums are good and not so good
I have to second and triple what everyone else posted. Also look for trends in the poster. Some posters that are generally negative are opinions I tend to mentally throw away. The point about people posting when they are low more than when they are doing well is so very true. It's good to arm yourself with other experiences, but take the stories and find a middle truth in between the extremes. If you find a poster who you think you click with or want to ask more questions, please feel free to private message and reach out to that person. I think you'll find most everyone on here is here for support. Good luck!!!!

Dr. Oz
Don't hold too much weight in Dr. Oz. He's a tv personality first and a doctor second. He has a dermatologist frequent his show and write blogs on his site who is nothing more than a rich ex-practicing doctor who does not see any patients and only keeps the medical license to make her expensive cosmeceuticals. I saw that episode and thought it was either very irresponsible for him to present those women as the norm, or it was truly him intentionally pushing his negative opinion of WLS by showing an unrealistic and unhealthy extreme.

Muscle Milk light
Same experience here. Try the GNC Total Lean ready to drink strawberry. It's absolutely the best strawberry protein shake I've ever had. The sales guy at the GNC by me tried to talk me out of the GNC Total Lean too! He was pushing the GNC Amplify. I have no idea why they'd push one over another unless there is a different commission structure, or he was overstocked on the one he was pushing and was trying to get rid of it. I wait until the Total Lean is on sale online for buy one, get one half off and free shipping. I go ahead and buy like 8 4-packs at a time

sharting
LOL Sharting. That's definitely what happens! Considering a pre-op liquid diet, and a post op diet of liquids and mushies.. what goes in liquid/mushy comes out the same way. It happens every single time to me when I have to go on liquids for 2 days after a fill. So totally normal. Hang in there - It will get better as you get more solid food incorporated back into your diet. Then you can experience the flip side, constipation. So few calories go in that aren't expended means that there's little waste to be had.

Haven't gotten my frenemy and freaking out!?
I think our bodies just freak out in general the first few cycles. From the pre-op diet for 2 weeks until I completed 2 months post op, I'd get my period every other week while still on the pill - and I have PCOS, so that's unheard of for me! If you're concerned, definitely take a pregnancy test. Try not to stress too much; that can affect our bodies as well.

Help Finding a Moisturizer for My Brother
I'd stay away from any kind of oil product while battling cystic acne, which I assume he has if he's on accutane. You want to look for something more like a lotion or gel but that is gentle and moisturizing. Here are some suggestions: Cetaphil lotion (you can get it at CVS, Walgreen, Target, etc) Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solutions Daily Moisturizing Lotion Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel - his dermatologist may carry this line of products. This is made with hyaluronic acid - a really good gel hydrator. Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 15 or Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer Sensitive Skin. SPF is really important on accutane, as the skin is really susceptible to burning.

Aggravating...
I absolutely love Cocoabean's idea. Also, I'd let him know that it's against Facebook's terms of service to hack into someone's account (that is, if he was using his girlfriend's account to respond to you). I'd absolutely post his reply to your Wall using @nameofgym as a tag so that it tags to him to the message. Let people see how (un)caring the owner is over there. Between the overreaction and his use of caps, just chalk it up to Little Man Syndrome (or Little D*ck Syndrome). That would make me feel better

Seafood fest the past few days!
I don't know what I would do without seafood. I always have salmon, tilapia, tuna fish and shrimp in the house. Tilapia and Mahi Mahi are so easy to make with just spraying olive oil and some salt, pepper and dill. I have tuna fish for lunch about twice a week wrapped in lettuce being conscious of the mercury not to have it a lot. I could eat tuna everyday, seriously. I've really started to enjoy grilled salmon. I love lox but never got into eating a filet of salmon. The nice thing about seafood is that it makes going out to eat a lot easier. It's easier to modify fish orders to cook the fish in less oil and find unbreaded/unencrusted options. Last night I had 6 medium steamed shrimp with cocktail sauce and sauteed garlic spinach. Delish!

A year later I was told that I have a different band
That sucks!! Good for your for advocating for yourself and seeking another opinion. I would have thought your surgery paperwork would have noted the size since think there is a serial number associated with each device that would indicate the size.

Jonathan from New York City!
I think the clear liquid rule is that you have to be able to see through it. Cranberry juice not so much, but apple juice may be ok. Good luck tomorrow!

NEW INSURANCE...RENEWED HOPE!
I go to Malley as well and Dr Fearing did my surgery. I totally recommend them too.

Coventry in Kansas City, MO
Most times it's not about who the insurance carrier is, but what provisions or exclusions are included in the employer's plan. BCBS covers some people and not others, like me, because my employer opted out of bariatric coverage. Some companies opt out of this coverage (and infertility coverage) to have lower premiums and monthly premiums for the employees. It's best to check with the employer. Btw, love your name. I went to Mizzou and am in KC too!

Headed to GNC
I am a GNC Gold Card Member and the Lean Shakes ready-to-drink come out at a good price, and they are the best tasting I've found. I tried Lean Shake, Isopure (barf!) and GNC's Amplify. Sometimes they have a good sale on buy one, get one half off for the Lean Shake 4 packs. If the sale is online AND they have free shipping, I order like 8 four packs and stock up. The RTD Lean Shake is better in low carb, high protein than the Lean Shake powder shakes.

can't look at a drink!
Also try popsicles or pedialtye popslcles to help with the dehydration.

Carrabba's Italian Restaurant
Everyone is different in what foods they can't tolerate and which they may be able to eat but restrict due to the carbs/calories. I can eat bread, any meat, Pasta and rice, but I chose to keep the bread, pasta and rice down to a minimum. If I have pasta at home, I use whole wheat pasta and only about 1oz cooked (which is 1/2 oz dry pasta). Check out restaurant websites for their nutritional info. I think that's more important in making the decision on what to eat. You may be surprised how high cal some fish dishes are if they are encrusted with anything. Soup is a great choice, just be careful since it's a slider food and may not fill you up. That equals empty calories that don't help to keep you full and prevent from eating more. I looked on Carraba's website, and they don't post their nutritional info. That's a little scary and could be telling. For a LONG time The Cheesecake Factory refused to post their nut. value or provide it. Well, now there are a handful of states that require chain restaurants to provide this info either on their menu or in a handout/on their site. I was shocked when I saw their values. Remember you can tailor your orders to remove butter or cream sauces, and put dressings on the side.

SHED SOME LIGHT
The hiccups are the result of the band, swelling or a full pouch pushing against the phrenic nerve causing the diaphragm to spasm (hiccup).
-
Jimmy John's unwhich
Wrapped in lettuce, and it's delish! It's wrapped tightly and with butcher paper, so the sandwich is easy to eat.
-
Jimmy John's unwhich
I usually get the Turkey Tom Unwich, no mayo, add cucumber, add dijon mustard, add provolone and it comes to 193 cals/9.5 fat/7.3 carbs/22 Protein. Here is their nutritional site, which has a GREAT builder to add and remove items to see the values. http://jimmyjohns.com/menu/nutrition.aspx. If I did that sandwich without the cheese, it's 93 cals! Add a side pickle slice and it's a great "fast food" meal!

Have a lump that formed above my belly button?!?
Maybe it's the band tubing?
-
Has anyone else done this
Maybe jump into the liquid diet for 2 days then back into mushies and solids? At least doing liquids will make you crap out all of the junk hehe

suggestions for tuna, chicken, and egg salads
I really like the Wasa crackers. They are about 60 calories for two of them, and I usually just need one for lunch. I prefer the multigrain version over the others.
