  1. I am new hear too and hope that you reconsider leaving this site. I wasn't aware of the post you were talking about so I looked and . . . OMG! I would feel the same way that you do. I can't believe the insensitivity that was shown to you by one particular person. I am very sorry that happened, even though the one that needs to apologize isn't me. We all need a place where we can come for support and encouragement. We need to be able to ask questions and get answers in a kind fashion. Unfortunately this does happen on every board that I have come across (whether it is lap band or parenting, etc...). There are alot of decent people here that really do care and want to help us newbies. Try to ignore or block (if we can) the rude, insensitive, egotistical ones. I hope to see you around. Good luck and remember that YOU CAN DO THIS, We all can!!
  2. For the Tylenol try crushing it between two spoons and then adding a bit of liquid to swallow it with, that should resolve it getting stuck. As for being hungry, I am sorry you are struggling with this. I am only 2 days into my 2 wk. liquid diet but try to not think of it. You have to do something to get your mind off of it or you will drive yourself crazy! One thing that helps me when I am really hungry but it isn't time to eat is exercising. Even if it is a slow walk around the block. When I come home I have cleared my head and feel better. Pick up a book, crochet, scrapbook, something. Stop thinking of the food and get your mind on something else. You can do this!!
  3. My surgery date is Feb. 22nd!! I can't wait and am so excited! I am not nervous at all. I know this is what I need to do and am 100% sure of it. When I had my bypass surgery scheduled I canceled the morning of my pre-op (1 week prior to surgery). I just knew that decision was not for me. This time around with the Lap Band I am so confident and sure this is what I was meant to do ( I originally started w/ lap band and changed to bypass). I am blessed to feel this way. LRD started yesterday. I am keeping my self very busy cleaning and organizing so I won't think of not being able to have "solid" food. It is such a head game! I will say that I am amazed at how the protein shakes fill me up. Now if I could just stop going potty every 15 minutes I'd be great!! lol Good luck everyone!!
  4. I am a huge soup lover and make soup all the time. What I am doing today is making my regular vegtable soup which is just chicken bullion cubes (1 per 1C water) and adding onion, celery and carrots. I am going to make it with alot of broth so when the soup is done I can have the broth now and when I get to the pureed stage I can have the rest of the soup. I plan on blending it all up and freezing it in single portion sizes. I am doing this with all the soups I make so I will have it on hand. Hope this helps some, Wendy
  5. First and foremost, GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!! It is so very exciting and I can't wait to hear all about your experience! Mel, YOU CAN DO THIS!! I am getting banded 2/22. I was supposed to have the bypass surgery 1.5 years ago and canceled because I got scared. I am glad that I canceled only because the lap band is what is best for me, but my point is that I understand what you are feeling. It is human nature to get nervous and to question what are we doing and why, etc.... But in your heart you know that this is best for you to get healthy. Go with that feeling and tell those nerves to get lost!! Look how far you came, you are at the end, you did it!! You are going to do great and be fine! I can't wait to hear how everything goes for you!! Good luck!!!
  6. I was fortunate to have been sick and only able to drink Water for the full week prior to my start of the LRD. So while being ill I went through the awful headachs and everything else that goes with the low carbs. This will pass, even though it stinks. I will say that now that the coffee, pop, caffeine, carbs, etc are gone from my daily intake I have more energy then I have had in years!! Fat or not I have energy!! Good luck and keep your chin up. It will pass soon!!
  7. Good morning. I am looking for a low-fat granola recipe preferably without nuts. Does anyone have any to share? We will be doing alot of camping and hiking this spring and summer and I would love to be able to have this for a good, healthy energy source. Thanks!! Wendy
  8. Good luck. Can't wait to hear how things went for you!
  9. I thought that I posted this the other day but can't find it, so I am not sure what happened. I got my surgery date for Feb. 22nd and started my 2 week LRD, liquid only, today. I am very excited to finally be at the point in the process. I can't believe that this is actually here already! I have definitely noticed that my behavior takes me to the kitchen many times through out the day to nibble. I have kept myself very busy and have 4 very clean bedrooms due to it! I know that I will get through this and what doesn't kill me will make me stronger. With that said I want substance! lol Good golly it is only day one and I just want to chew something. I think s/f Jello and s/f Popsicles are going to be my life saver over the next 2 weeks. A friend who had the same doctor as I, said that in her nutrition class they told her she could have a slice of low sodium turkey at lunch. But my class isn't for 1 week and I don't want to do something that I was not told by them to do. I did call them about tea/coffee because it isn't on the list and she did allow me decaf herbal tea. So here is to day one! Let's hope day 2-14 go smoothly too! lol

  11. I am so very excited for you! Good luck!! Can't wait to hear how it all goes!!
  12. A friend of mine has the lap band and she eats almost everything she did before. She said that she doesn't eat as much steak or chicken as before, it takes her longer to eat it because she has to chew it more. And bread she rarely has. Other then that she eats everything she did before. HTH It is normal to get all freaked out. Just relax. They will give you the tools that you need to succeed. If you feel you are lacking in any area there are so many tools online. Good luck!!
  13. Hi Everyone. My name is Wendy, I am a 37 yo wife and mother to 3 kids (6,5,5). We live in the suburbs of Buffalo,NY. I have struggled w/ weight for the past 17 years. Two years ago I started the lap band process and then got scared by some information that I read and changed my decision to gastric bypass. The morning of my Pre-Op I called and canceled. The risks involved in having the bypass surgery and everything that followed surgery isn't something I wanted. So I did nothing for 1.5 years. September of 2010 I finally came to the understanding that I need help. Loosing weight isn't something that I can do on my own and everything has risks, from walking in the street to driving to the store. The "risks" that may or may not happen w/ gastric banding I am willing to chance. I got the call yesterday to schedule my surgery, only thing is I was napping (I'm sick) and missed the call. lol Go figure! I got the message this morning and due to this lovely snow storm they are closed today so tomorrow I will get my date. I am sure it is 2 weeks away. The doctor I see is Dr. Pham at Synergy Bariatrics in Buffalo (Williamsville). I am fortunate to know a few people who are very successful in there WLS who have gone to this office. So that is very encouraging. I am very excited to finally have this tool to loose weight! And can't wait to start going!!
  14. I have BCBS and it is being paid IN FULL!! I still can't believe it to be honest. My BMI is 39 with no underlying conditions. A dear friend of mine had the surgery last year (not sure of her insurance carrier) and her BMI was 36 (with no underlying conditions) and was also covered by insurance. Good luck!!
  15. @ PeaceQueen - About 2 years ago I got started going forward to have the lapband. I was on a support forum, not this one, and got extremely freaked out w/ all the negativity. I ended up switching to Gastric Bypass. I got all the way to the pre-op appointment and then called and canceled. I waited a year doing nothing and getting heavier, more miserable and depressed. Finally this past September I finally got the ball rolling again to have the lap band surgery. I am at such peace with it. No matter the negitive things I may read I know that this is what is best for me and what I want. Sure there are risks, there is with everything. Driving to the store has risks. Walking/jogging in the street has risks. But so does being overweight. Get some post it's and put one reason per post it as to why you are doing the lap band. Stick them around. And put a few on your computer monitor so if you are online and read something that may concern or scare you, read the positive note you have right in front of you. And stop reading. It is so very easy to get freaked out by others opinions. Be strong and do what you feel is best! If you come across a post that isn't encouraging to you then close it out. I know it is easier to say then do, that is why I changed my mind 2 years ago. If I would have just closed it out and not read it then I would be 1.5 years into my bandy already. At least I am on my way now. @ HungryMel - Good luck!! Don't let anyone elses decision freak you out. It may be to much for them to handle at this point. Maybe she just isn't mentally ready to have the surgery or maybe she just really feels comfortable having the sleeve is what is best for her. And that is alright, we all need to make the best decision for us. I know her mentioning what her concerns are may be freaking you out but try not to let it. It is close to your surgery, I am sure you are nervous, even though you know this IS what you want, what surgery wouldn't make someone nervous. You will be fine! Think positive thoughts and only read success stories!! Again, good luck!!!
