  1. Kelly, if I can be helped then so can you. I would eat until I got full and then eat more and then eat more after that. I always was full
  2. Yeah, I can eat 4 oz of applesauce and feel like I ate a huge thanksgiving dinner!
  3. Sometimes it depends on what I'm eating. If I eat anything with potatoes in it, I can really only have a bite or two. Sometimes I can drink crystal light in bigger gulps and I have no problem, but only if I haven't eaten in a while.
  4. It's hard for me to answer since I have not any children of my own. But I want to because I grew up overweight and as a teenager my weight surpassed my mothers who was also overweight. Being a teenager means thinking the world will be over past high school, being under intense scrutiny by classmates, trying to meet society's ideals... etc. No matter what her size is, at her age she will always want to be something "better". You've got to take care of yourself too, though. I would be 100% honest with her as to why you are doing it and how it will benefit you, such as having a longer and healthier life. You should encourage her to tell you how she feels about it because she will probably be very scared for your safety and may feel guilty/jealous when you lose weight. Good luck!
  5. Hey, we all have to vent sometimes! I come here for that since my husband doesn't really get it. I really haven't told my friends yet. Some of my coworkers know, but that's not helpful either.
  6. I wore yoga pants for week afterwards. I have a couple pairs of stretchy jeans that I wore to the store and then changed back to yoga pants at home. your stomach will feel bloated for at least a week from all the gas they pump in your belly. I brought pjs to the hospital and never wore them. The gowns are huge and I was wearing the air compression stockings on my legs. Too much hassle and when I was in the hospital, I just did not give a crap about what I looked like. I only stayed over 1 night instead of 2 because my pain wasn't too bad. I was out of bed and walking a couple hours afterwards too.
  7. Your body is freaking out like, where the hell are my calories!!!! LOL! Give it time. I get depressed too, like I expected my weight to fall off me and feel awesome automatically. Plus the weather is crap by me. Rain everyday and cooler than normal. I get bummed. My doc told me to aim for 1200cals a day and that seems unreal. I am going to try to weigh myself only twice a week. I am a freak about my scale too. Don't worry, it will come off. Try to relax!
  8. I had that feeling a couple times and my doctor said it could be one of a couple things: 1. gas, 2. I'm full, or 3. acid reflux. I had it last thursday and it lasted a couple hours. I didn't have my gas-x strips with me and it went away after a while.
  9. It sounds to me like you are doing great! And you are much too hard on yourself! Look at all that is going right for you! No matter what there is going to be things that we wish we could change for/about ourselves so don't feel guilty. We will all still have good days and bad days. This surgery isn't a miracle fix where our lives will be perfect afterwards. I know that I've been pretty bummy since surgery because the weather has been crap. Cheer up, chick. You seem like you're doing awesome!
  10. This kind of happens to me too but I haven't thrown up yet. I am 2 weeks out now too and at work I eat something like applesauce on break. Well I try to slow down but it's hard. At home if I am eating the same thing I would leave the container on the counter and eat a bite when I walk by when I'm cleaning or something. If I don't slow down, sometimes it feels like I need to go to the bathroom. Sometimes I do just to see if it will help the pressure. I hate that feeling. It is just taking a long time for me to learn.
  11. I think everyone has it different with the loose skin. Some have lost a great deal of weight and not had problems with it, and I've seen some people loose 50 pounds and have saggy skin. As you lose weight just add in the toning exercises. Skin can shrink up to a year after weight loss also. I can't say I'll be dating after my sleeve since I'm happily married, but I'm sure things will get alot better for us anyway! Just make sure you are with someone you trust and stay true to yourself.
  12. Try drinking more and eating less. I know I eat less when I get all my fluids in. I drink 20oz of Protein drink, then at least another 20oz of crystal light or Vitamin Water. After I do that then I'll let myself eat something like applesauce or whatever.
  13. Did you have a drain? I had my surgery on the 12th and got my drain pulled yesterday. When it was in, my ribs hurt all the time (it was inserted just under my left lower rib). As soon as it was out my belly is alot less sore. But it hurt like a @%$@# coming out though. I get a little sore on the incision areas if I bend over or something too. Good luck!
  14. I am not necessarily hungry but it's more mental. Like when I would be sitting in the living room watching a movie or something, I would have a huge desire to be eating a whole bag of chips like I might have before surgery. I have found out, that my eyes are still, and even more so now, much bigger than my stomach. Just last night, I had an urge for softserve ice cream. I ordered a small, but the small is still really big. I barely made a dent in it and had to throw it out. In a way, I'm kinda grieving for the way I used to eat. It wasn't healthy for sure, but it definitely did satisfy an emotional part of me.
  15. Oh no! I get my drain out tomorrow morning before work. My abdomen is really sore at it's insertion point. I'm sick of it.
  16. Oh my god. What is wrong with people? This makes me very upset. That is the reason I was always afraid of going out to dinner with my husband before surgery. I didn't even like walking down the street, not because of the exercise, but because I was afraid of what people thought of me.
  17. Good luck with saving up. I don't know much about the doctors down in Mexico, but alot of people have gone to them from here and they all seem to have good things to say. I just got this surgery last week and I am feeling great. I am dropping weight fast and I feel healthy. This surgery doesn't cause malnutrition and I don't believe I've heard of anybody who became underweight. There are plenty of people on this site who lost only 70 pounds or so and that's all they needed. We are all here for you. My husband was very wary of the surgery because he was scared for my safety. With more education about it he didn't like the idea, but would support me because he knew I wanted it that bad. Just be patient with your family. Good luck to you and let us know how things are going!
  18. I'm drinking my protein, vitamin water and soup. I feel full enough with that.
  19. Lol, as my doctor keeps telling me... "nurses who nurse themselves will have a fool for a patient". I always want to smack him for that!
  20. Today I am officially out of the 50s for BMI and I fit in 2x size scrubs again! I'm almost a week out and I am amazed at all the changes! I feel lighter and happier! Yay!
  21. Yup, I am doing well, and dropping pounds everyday! Not enough yet to see anything, but I definitely feel good. Good luck!
  22. He is just scared for your safety. My DH was the same way. And even until I just had it done, was opposed, but supported me because I was so set on it. Just be calm and keep explaining. He may not feel better until it is done and you are losing and becoming healthier.
  23. I got send home on day of surgery because of a small weight gain and the doctor didn't think I took the preop diet seriously. It was a high protein no carb diet. I was heartbroken and went crazy on sticking to it and lost some weight and finally got the surgery done. But I was devastated when it happened. I don't even like thinking about it.
  24. This is a horrible story! I know in my area, I think it is illegal for a hospital professional to even suggest you should have gone somewhere else for care. It's part of the COBRA laws where we treat everyone and can't discriminate for any reason. I hope you are feeling better. :/
