Anyone fasting Ramadan?
Woah! That's commitment, and faith! No water during the day, that will be tough eating your meal and then getting in your fluids at least an hour before and after eating. Maybe you should start planning when your going to start drinking your water and your meals. Like will you quickly chug say 30 oz of water right after sundown, and then wait 1/2 or 1 hour and have a meal? Then, wait an hour after your meal, and drink the other 30 oz of water? I'm just wondering if maybe you'll have to adjust your bedtime! And, if you'll be drinking all your fluids right before bedtime, you'll probably be getting less sleep anyways since you'll be hitting the potty!! You're definitely going to loose a ton!

Anyone fasting Ramadan?
Good luck!!! I am not fasting, but I'm just curious, can you still drink water during the day? Have a good holiday month!

kettlebell-anyone try it?
oh my the kettle bell can kick your behind. I use one at the gym for squats and for swinging back and forth between my legs to just parallel to my shoulders. It's pretty good. BUT I do have to say, my batwings are hanging on despite the kettle bell!

Baby is 6 months old-I'm nursing and freaked about a fill
Oh sweetie!!! What a terrible position to be in. We all want to loose our baby weight quickly, and most want to feed our children bm because it is so good for them. Is there a reason why you need to loose the weight now, or could you wait just a bit longer before having a fill? Say until you are ready to wean? Here's why I would wait to get a fill until I was done, or almost done with nursing 1) nursing ACTIVELY burns calories. I've read that you can burn up to 500 calories per day by nursing. that means with exclusive bf'ing you will probably loose weight with a sensible diet 2) you need to keep your Fluid and calorie intake up so that your child gets the most nutritious bm. 3) You may want to investigate the affects of rapid weight loss on bm composition and what is possibly released into your bm. 4) I know that sudden dietary changes and a loss of calories can cause a drop in bm production. 5) like you said, deprivation is hard. Why do that when you are already nursing, which is also hard? It may (or may not) encourage you to give up nursing earlier than you would've otherwise if you feel crappy physically. I'm not an expert, I'm not a lactation expert, and I'm certainly NOT qualified to give medical advice. I say get in contact with someone who can really answer these important questions for you! Good luck momma!

NSV! I bought LEVI'S NOT Lane Bryant!!!
Just tooting my own horn here! Today I had NOTHING to wear, because all of my pants looked awful on me. So I took off my size 24 jeans from Lane Bryant (I didn't even have to unbutton them!) and slid on a pair of size 18 Levi's that I bought without trying on 3 years ago. They have NEVER fit me before! NEVER. I'm pleased as punch! They didn't even give me muffin top! So, now that I can wear Levi's I'm vowing to stay out of Lane Brant for the rest of my life! Oh the joys! My goal is now to be in a size 16 by September. Horray for me!

First Lap Band Fill!
Awesome! Though the liquid mushie diet sucks, you'll probably drop a pound or two just from that! Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Punishing myself? Sabotaging myself? Testing my band? PLEASE help. :(
Thanks! That's my motto I'm not perfect, and I occasionally fall back on bad behaviors, but what I'm trying to do is to stop one failure from becoming 3 weeks of bingeing. So far so good!

Punishing myself? Sabotaging myself? Testing my band? PLEASE help. :(
how are you doing today? Was it a better day? I'd also like to say that your post, and the positive responses you received from all the people on this board made me extremely happy. This is the way I envisioned this board working! As a forum for support, not as a place to snark at other people. I'm proud of you for sharing, and for the people who responded thoughtfully and helpfully! I really hope you are doing okay. I was thinking about you a lot today.

I am so sorry to hear about your divorce. Even if you wanted the divorce it still must be very painful. I can still eat an awful lot of food too. But I'm trying really hard not to. Do you have a good therapist to talk to? I can't stress how important it was for me to get a therapist and talk to her about my binge eating disorder. Don't beat yourself up, just do better tomorrow. That's all we can do. Try to have more good days than bad. Hugs to you!

Cocktails???
I also love diet cranberry juice and vodka with fresh lime. It's called a "cape-codder" if you order it around here. Make sure you ask if the juice is diet though, at a bar they usually only have the regular juice and the calories are wicked steep! Also, I totally agree, I'm 3 sheets to the wind after 1 drinkypoo now. Yikes!

Lap Band and Divorce
I think having good self esteem is important to having a good relationship. I know that I have had serious problems with depression and low self esteem during my 10 year relationship with my husband. I know that who I am becoming as I loose the weight is a happier and healthier person. Sometimes the people we marry or partner with become comfortable with us as overweight/depressed/unhappy people. Sometimes the changes we make in ourselves change the dynamics in our relationships, like we demand more respect/attention/sex etc. Sometimes our partners don't want to make the changes that will allow a relationship to flourish in a healthy way, sometimes they do. I don't judge you for thinking about making changes in your relationship when you are doing so much work to change your life in other ways. YOU need to be a happy and healthy person. YOU will be a better mom if you are happy and healthy. If you can be happy in your marriage, then stay. If you can't be happy then do what you need to do to be happy. Because as the daughter of a single mother, I know that I respect and love my mother for making the choice to leave a bad marriage in order to give herself AND me a better life. Also, to the guy who posted that you should kill yourself, and accused you of having an abortion, I'm embarrassed for him. He's just making all the sane, nice, and loving Christians out there look bad.

Does using smaller utensils and plates help?
I use my 2 year old's baby utensils. It helps me feel full. You have to take twice as many bites with a baby spoon to equal the amount I would normally eat with a regular spoon. I think with the added time it takes to eat all those little bites I'm able to feel full sooner.

When did your strips come off and did anyone take them off by themselves?

counseling for food addiction
I'm a compulsive binge eater. I was in treatment for my ED for 6 months prior to my surgery and it was the BEST DECISION of my life! I'm sorry you met with a quack. That sucks. My dr. is in the Boston area, and she is fantastic. She was very supportive, but also EXCEPTIONALLY expensive. Which is why I'm not able to see her right now. Anyways, she recommended this book "when food is love". You should check it out. It was really emotionally difficult for me to read, but very helpful. Good luck!

BLOATED
I was also banded on June 20th *waves hi to Kitty!!* I had my first BM on Wed. It was super uncomfortable and really "pebbely" sorry to be gross. I was prescribed liquid colace and it tastes NASTY. I only take it because 1) it works, and 2) you actually should call your dr and ask how long it should be before you have a BM or pass gas from below. This is important, because anesthesia can actually put your GI to sleep and your doctor should know if it hasn't "woken up again". I also know that narcotic pain meds can cause constipation. I would call my doctor's office and ask to speak to one of the nurses. They can probably help decipher if your experiencing something normal, or if you have an actual problem. Just my 2cents!

5 1/2 months in and I think I'm finally "getting it".
The scariest thing anyone has ever told me is a side affect of not eating enough protein: A lack of protein can and does cause HAIR LOSS. Oh my! I'm motivated to drink my stupid pre-op protein shakes just due to this. Not to mention that I'm trying to shrink my liver for surgery etc. etc. I LIKE MY HAIR. lol Good luck and keep up the good work.

Any june 2011 Banders???
Hey Kitty! You and I are going to be banded on the same day!!!! What is your pre-op diet like, if you are on one? I'm on 1,000 calories / day which have to consist of 3 "meal replacements" (ie: protein shakes or protein bar) and one "real meal" of lean protein and vegetables. I'm getting pretty sick of it! BUT I'm sticking to it. How are you doing? I'm getting nervous!
