New to site
You sound just like me. I had been going to the gym every day for about 3 years and exercised my brains out and did nothing but gain more weight. The band was the answer for me. I hope some more people can recommend a dr. for you. I am on the west coast, so I don't know anything about doctors in your area. You might want to put a post up somewhere else on the board, where it will get more views.

Thinking about getting banded
I lost 22 lbs on the post op diet but after that it was slow going. Some people lose very quickly, and others it's slower, but it's heading in the right direction. I didn't have much pain at all. Somebody told me that is because I was exercising so much before surgery. There are some people that do have some pain the first few days after surgery, but most people don't complain about a lot of pain. It took me 16 months to get to goal.

Banded Aug 08
Welcome to Lap Band talk. I didn't lose very quickly either. I lost 22 lbs on the post op diet and then nothing for 4 months. I think our bodies need to get used to our new weight before it decides to give up a few more lbs. Try not to get discouraged. It will come off. Just make sure you chew your food until it's liquid in your mouth. Take itty bitty bites and wait before you take another bite to see how it's going down. I wouldn't get another fill until food stops getting stuck.

Newbie
Welcome to Lap band talk. You have come to the right place. This is the best site for support and encouragement. There are very few of us that regret our decision. Most of us wish we had done it sooner. I am not sure if that will ease your mind, but in any case, don't be shy and post away!

Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!
I wonder why your age shows up as 48 over next to your post. Mine automatically changed to 56 on my birthday. Do you know how long you'll have to do a liquid diet after your surgery?

I hate it when people post just to post.....
I have read in the newspaper over and over again in the doctor's column about the soap. Everyone swears it works!

Givin' up the ice cream
Very well said Ready Steady. Food does not seem to be my problem. I still eat really small portions but seem to have no willpower what so ever when it comes to sweets being in front of me. I did when I first got the band. Today, one of our clients bought a box of chocolates for each of the girls in the office. I ate about 6 of them and gave my box to a co-worker. She put them in the lunch room on the counter where I could still see them. I put a sticky note on it that said "Denise is not allowed chocolate because she gained 7, count them 7 lbs and that is not good! with a sad face on it. I hope they are gone next week when I get back to the office. Some of the girls will be working friday.

I hate it when people post just to post.....
I would probably kick my bf in the butt if he said something like that to me. Ordering pizza sounds good to me for Thanksgiving dinner. My daughter would probably kill me though. She is very into holidays. We would have it at her house but mine is bigger. Froggi welcome to bandland! I am sorry you're in so much pain. I am surprised they didn't give you liquid pain meds. or are you talking about other meds? I can take my meds much easier now that I have had an unfill. I really want to get that meez thing figured out.

Givin' up the ice cream
I am sure they won't give you a fill if you don't think you can handle more fill. there is nothing worse than being too tight, and it's dangerous!

Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!
Your surgery is just around the corner! I am happy for you. Don't worry if you lose weight a little bit slower than the people with the higher BMIs. I lost a bunch on the post op diet, and after that, it was slow going. I was happy to be going in the right direction though, instead of gaining more. I know I would have just kept gaining. Keep us posted!

gaining weight after lapband removal
I agree. If I had to have my band removed, I know I would gain weight. I have already gained a little bit because I had to have some of my fill removed for the same reasons. If I had to have my band removed, I would get the sleeve. I would take out another 2nd mortgage on my house if I had to. Is another surgery an option for you?

Givin' up the ice cream
Okay, only all of you will understand this. Yesterday, I did really good all day long and had all my Protein in. Then, I made Peanut Butter Cookies and had them for dinner. I made my bf take the rest of them to work this morning.

My problem
I am taking acidolphilus every day. I just increased the doseage. They had the pearls at the health food store, but they told me that this acidolphilus is better. Which probiotics are better than acidolphilus? On the website you gave me the link to, there are several different boxes of pearls. I can't tell what the difference is.

Anyone have "The Rabbit"?
My daughter stores her toys in corn starch, of all things. She said the person at the party she went to told her that was the right way to store them. (The rubbery types )

How (if at all) do you tell a new guy about your band?
I told him I had a late lunch, that my stomach was a little upset, that I was trying to lose weight, all the excuses I could think of until I was sure we were for keeps. Then when he wanted to go to dinner one night, I just told him I needed to tell him something first. He was great about it and said it was wonderful that I cared enough about my health to do something about it.

Givin' up the ice cream
I have a book The Beck Diet solution. I need to read it again. It's not a diet. It's a way to cope with cravings. Last night I watched this show I had put on my DVR. It's called I can make you thin. He says to picture all our temping foods covered in worms. That does not work for me. I guess my head knows better that there are no worms.

Froggi, I am so excited for you. I know you have been waiting a long time. I hope your surgery is uneventful (painfree) and Welcome to Bandland.

Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
Since I had some of my fill removed, I don't have to take anything for acid reflux anymore. It's great. I don't have any heartburn, but I am getting hungry soon after I eat, and I am going to have to depend on willpower now. I am not so good with that.

What Can Cause Band Slippage
It depends on whether or not you have any damage to your stomach. I know a lot of people getting their bands removed and getting a sleeve. I want to do that as soon as I can afford it. I think it's just a matter of time (In my opinion) before everyone will have band problems.

A thread for Single Bandsters
yea, I told my bf pretty early on. I wouldn't even have a bf if it weren't for the band. I never would have had the nerve to post a profile on match. com I had one on plenty of fish, with a picture, but all I got were losers writing to me.

Givin' up the ice cream
I froze the protein shake and it wasn't so good. For one thing, it froze like an ice cube. There wasn't anyway to stick a spoon in it. So I defrosted it part way in the microwave. IT seemed to lose it's flavor as a slushie. It was more the texture of sherbet but not very tasty. It's better as a protein drink. I had a bad day too. I went out for a salad and some kids were having a birthday party. The mother bought too big of an ice cream cake and gave it to my friends and me. I really couldn't sit there and watch everyone else eat it. Then I came home and ate my WW ice cream cup. One of those "I already blew it, so I may as well have it " moods.
