One month out, new pain
This morning I got up to go to the bathroom and when I went to lay back down I got this really bad pain in the center of my back, directly behind my sternum. It was so bad I had to sit up and the pain then moved to my sternum and then up into the back of my throat. It felt like a combination of sharp pain and pressure and spasm. It lasted about 20 minutes. I rocked and burped and it seem to let up a bit. Now that I am up again and moving around I decided to try and eat after taking prilosec and gas x and the first bite of cottage cheese and the pain is back. Not quite as intense, but there right at my sternum. Again burping seems to provide a few seconds of relief. It reminds me of that day in the hospital where the nurses were whispering to each other, esophageal spasm? Any ideas what is going on???

I seem to have misplaced
the 2 lumps that used to be on my chest, any idea where they might have gone???? Seriously I am about 68 pounds done from Jan of 2010 and one month post op and suddenly I have lost my breasts! I look down and all I see is baggy shirt material where they used to be. I am not sure how I feel about that.

I am so embarrassed- not exercising
Same here, I just don't do it. I am hoping for Cmas I will get either a wii fit or zumba. I don't like going out to work out places, I just feel extremely uncomfortable there. My current exercise since surgery has been going to the mall and walking. I don't do it everyday but I figure it is more than I had done in the past.

SO FRUSTERATED Im guna be stuck like this forever
I have found that weighing at night is always a couple pounds higher on the scale as all the fluid we take in during the day has not left the body. There is something about sleeping that resets the body. I can go to bed weighing 2.5 pounds higher and then in the morning it is gone! Just remember, this is a tool, not an overnight make over.

Had surgery on 12-16-2010
Stay strong! I find keeping my a mental picture of my new lower number on the scale keeps me strong when I think about those holiday treats, and soon you will be eating food and you will be surprised how full you get even from just teaspoons of something and their food wont even be a temptation! What a great present you have given yourself for the new year!

Decision about worrying/complaining
I have to say I never had a OMG what have I done moment. I had some strange food dreams the first night after surgery, but I think the drugs had a lot to do with that one! I had only a few bits of nausea afterwords that meds took care of in the hospital and the pain was pretty much gone and was more of a soreness by day 7. I think it has been pretty smooth since then and here a week 4 I am still happy to have it done! I am just starting to try this and that on the permitted list and thrilled with how little it takes to fill me up. There is no more fighting with myself about over eating or wanting this or that. I have no reflux, no foamies and no nausea. For the first time in my life I HAVE CONTROL OVER WHAT GOES IN MY MOUTH AND HUNGER IS NOT AN ISSUE! To say I am happy with my sleeve is understatement! It is the best Christmas present I have ever given myself!

Hair Changes
I am only about 4 weeks post op, however hair loss, thinning and changing is well know problem after significant weight loss. The body is confused and trying to figure out what is going on. Since hair is not needed to live, ( well in the body's mind) it puts hair on the back burner while it concentrates it's energy on surviving. The good news is once things level out, your hair will be back and normal.

Tell my boss?
Dr notes only state that you have been under their care from to and your work release date, they do not say why or what the care was for.

Tell my boss?
We have FMLA act if we choose to use it and it protects us foe 12 weeks of unpaid leave that requires us to use paid sick and vacation time first. I would suggest in this economy anyone taking time in act it, you can use one week or 12. It protects you all around. My surgeon wrote a letter stating my procedure was medically necessary without saying what it was.

3 days post op
I had steri strips that drove me mad ! I had them on till 7 days post op. I have a sensitivity to adhesive so I had to use hydrocortizone cream on them! The scrapping I did not experience but you can have sore throat from the iintibation and perhaps your hernia repair has something to do with the feeling? I would check with the doc on the blurred vision, it could be medicines or blood pressure related.

So I went to dinner with my son tonight
Ok I have not figured out the multi quote thing, so I will just clarify a few questions here. I am 3 weeks out. My nut really encouraged me to try tuna, I thought it was a bit soon and I was right. I did not have the bread at all. I just took tiny tiny bits of tuna with the fork and chewed it to oblivion. I have not lost 60 pound in 3 wees, but that would be great:rolleyes: I lost 50 pounds in the months prior to surgery. My son does know I had the surgery, I just did not want him to feel self conscious that I was done 2 minutes in to the meal. I basically have a half a tuna fish sandwich left in fridge, and it will probably go to the feral cats outside. Things I can eat easy are yogurt, baby food, humus on carb control whole wheat tortilla, I eat about a quarter of the tortilla for a meal. eggs, pudding, cheese, soup, cottage cheese, Jello and Protein shakes. I think I will avoid going out to eat as much as possible. It will be easy to avoid it after the holiday, but during this week there are so many people to meet and socialize with.

So I went to dinner with my son tonight
I ordered a half sandwich of tuna and Soup. I was only able to eat like 6 very tiny bites of the tuna ( bread and lettuce removed) and about a 1/4th of the cup of the soup. Between this and what they said at my follow up class today I am wondering is this is it??? Will I ever get more in? I am 3 weeks out. Today they talked about buyers remorse in class, I have never experienced it, I don't think until tonight. I did not miss the food so much as the experience of enjoying dinner out. I ate super slow and managed to make it look like I was eating the entire time my son was so he did not feel uncomfortable, but still I found the whole thing stressing. I was thinking here I was paying for this food I could not eat and worried about what he would think eating while I played with the food. I have been really lucky in the fact that I have had no nausea, no heartburn and no foamies that I see mentioned here. I guess this was just a good night to eat?

my dr. recommended the lap band over the sleeve...thoughts?
Wow Tiff, If I had read that when I was thinking about the band a couple of years ago, it would have been over before I ever filled out the paperwork.

Protein Shake from Wal Mart
I noticed Walmart was carrying more protein items, but I have never compared them to the Priemeir shakes from Costco. How many grams of protein do they have? How many carbs? Also is whey protein?

my dr. recommended the lap band over the sleeve...thoughts?
I considered the band a couple years ago, filled out all the paper work but just could not get past the idea of the foreign object in me. I then spend hours reading lap band support forums and all the talk about pain after fills, vomiting and what they called productive burping I knew was just not for me. Then I came across this sight and read about all the revisions needed and I knew then that it was going to be the sleeve or bypass for me. I chose sleeve because I am not worried about it being irreversible as I know I need the tool for life, not just a few years. I did not like the idea of life long malabsorbtion that comes with bypass so sleeved just felt right for me. I have been luck I guess as I have no heart burn and no nausea after the surgery some folks experience. I had zero complications from the surgery. Also with the band I feared erriosion issues and damage to my esophagus and I did not like the idea of the fills. A friend of mine had the band and she let me see where her port is, as I know that would drive me nuts under the skin there!

Need advice
Please tell someone, anyone, the NUT or a psychologist . You don't want to hurt your stomach. They say the hardest part of getting help is admitting you need it.

The decision is made, now for the journey....
Sounds like you have the right attitude. Committing to trying the pre op before you have to is a step in the right direction, not to mention the bonus of weigh loss. Sorry your appointment got pushed back.

A favor please
As I sit at home recovering I have been working on my pictures and I came across one so cute that I entered in a contest. It is my Grand daughter Gemma with my Dachshund Cassi. Can I ask you all to vote for it please? It would be such an honor to have in a magazine and the prize money would not hurt while I am off work either:) it is really a cute picture. It takes no personal info to vote and only takes a few minutes. Thanks in advance:My link
