    It's sinking in...

Hi, You are not alone and like you i have not shared my wls with anyone besides my husband/daughter/ and boss who gave me her word she would not tell anyone. I had my surgery Dec 28 and have lost 26lbs as of yesterday when i stepped on the scale . I am anxious and nervous about returning to work Monday because i know someone is going to ask me have you lost weight!!! I can see it!!! because i started out as 221lbs. I plan to tell them yes i have and i decided 2013 will be the year i finally take my weight serious and focus on being healthy. I know some ppl will be supportive and their are others that will judge, question, gossip and everything else but be supportive so thats y i have chosen not to tell anyone at work or any of my family members.... I am so happy that i joined this website because you feel support, encouragement, and know that you are not alone we all are here for one reason and that is to become healthy no matter whatever avenue we chose to take the bottom line is if we truly treat our sleeve right it will do what it needs to do and we can be successful with wl for life!!! Im am so excited that i finally had the courage to do something about my weight and it feels extra terrific to see the weight coming off right before your eyes weekly if not daily!!! Blessings to you on your wl journey!!! TD41

    It's sinking in...

I just joined this group, and this is only my second post - but I feel that you will get a lot of support from the members here. Even though it's not face to face, you can develop real friendships with people online. In fact, I met my husband of over 15 years online. I would also recommend talking to your doctor about local support groups - there is likely to be one close to where you live that you could attend on a weekly basis. Good luck with your surgery and weight loss journey!

    Here goes nothin'

I was in a similar boat. I have been over weight for only about 7 years, I got into a deep depression and gained over 100 lbs in less than 2 months at one point, and never was able to keep it off after that. I did not have any co-morbidities, and my Dr. would always say 'youre so healthy for being so big' Gee, thanks?!!? I started working with a bariatric surgeon and then my husbands insurance changed, they specifically excluded any type of surgery, if I would have done it stateside, it would have been 16k out of pocket! I ended up going to Mexico, and I don't regret a single step of my journey. I knew this was the right decision for me. I've met many people, on this forum, and when I was in MX, that had lower BMI, or were having the sleeve for 'different' reasons, and I felt bad they were judged harshly by their Dr's, some by their family and friends, for wanting to do what they knew was right, and would save their lives. Don't let anything hold you back from this! Fight fight fight!! If you know it is right for you, do it! I am happy to help if I can, even just to lend an ear. Self pay in Mx for my surgeon was only $4,750.

I'm in a similar situation w/ BMI, but do have accompanying health problems. My insurance is harder to cover the sleeve than the bypass (stupid since bypass is more drastic, but it's because the sleeve is newer). Good luck to you! Lindsay

    new to the lapband family

Welcome and congratulations on getting the band. It's the best thing I ever did for myself. This morning my husband said I look much thinner but the tape measure didn't say it. We are all here to listen and help and we do not judge, or at least most of us don't.

Something I feel the need to say

You are exactly right the band is only a TOOL! If you want to have surgery that does all the work for you then there are other options out there. I too researched this topic for two years before I made the final decision to have the lap band. I needed something to help me but teach me in the process. It by no means is easy. This is an entire lifestyle change and makes you completely aware of your eating issues!! Good Luck keep up the good work and remember this only works as much as you put into it!! Carol
