I Realize Now How Much I Ate!

I watch everyone else around me eat and I now can’t believe how much I ate before! It’s one of the most insane and interesting things I’ve noticed since having GS surgery. I don’t want to offend others, however, I just can’t believe how much we do (gatherings and social activities) involve SO much food! I went to breakfast with my sister, and our and her significant others various family members and I was just like WOW! My sister and her family eat like crazy! I see my little niece 7yrs old, wait for it… 128lbs! Eat all day long! My sister has never been big (gained extra weight from pregnancy, still not a big girl). I am like you have to get my niece’s weight under control now or else she will be on the path to weight loss surgery. The father is bigger and his so is his entire family. They ALL including him have some type of medical issues from being overweight, do not see an issue with this! I was saying it was crazy before I had the surgery!! It’s literally out of control now. They eat out all the time and my sister cooks meals in between. My niece ALWAYS says she’s hungry! Her dad is ALWAYS asking what did you feed my daughter today. Kids at school and in stores have called my niece fat. And she gets really upset about it. She already has horrible asthma. She’s been hospitalized a lot of times. Mind you…These are the same people kept telling me I was a nice size…. However, I was NOT healthy. I don’t want to seem like I am better then everyone else now but it’s crazy and upsetting that my niece whom I was in the hospital room when she was born will have to go through a bunch of you know what over food. The dad is like he doesn’t see a problem and my sister is like she will lose it once she gets taller or more active. I see a whole food addiction, because I had it as an adult not as a child. My family is like why are the doctors not telling them she needs to lose weight. I don’t know what or how to put it to get through to them that this is an issue, because everyone has a right to raise their children their own way. However, it will probably get worse.🤷🏼‍♀️ idk….

    Belly button pain and discharge.

I have never heard of this but I found this on health grades.com. It says “recent” surgery I’m not sure that yours would be considered recent but may be worth a call to ask your team just in case. Either way pain and discharge usually indicate something is going on so I would see a doctor Surgery Abdominal surgeries may pose a risk for potential infection near or in the belly button. These surgeries include umbilical hernia repair or laparoscopic surgery that involves incisions near the belly button. If you had recent abdominal surgery and notice liquid or pus draining from your belly button, it may be a sign of an internal infection. Contact your doctor right away to receive prompt treatment

I wasn’t particularly excited to be converted from VSG to RNY either but I knew I needed to do it. I was eating specifically to avoid GERD flare ups towards the end. Surprisingly my lifestyle is nearly identical between the surgeries except I’m super careful with (known) dumping triggers. There was a small adjustment period but other than that not much of a difference EXCEPT GERD has been gone for 3 yrs and counting. Good Luck!

I got it off Amazon. It’s called a drain belt. It is super handy, I don’t know about flattering but it’s nice to keep them in one place

It's been awhile for me, but I think by three or four months out the swelling was mostly gone (although my surgeon said it could take up to a year to see the final results). I didn't do any belly button training - in fact, it was never mentioned. Mine looks like a normal belly button now - has for a long time.

What do you eat at the movies?

I don't really go to the movies but when I go out to watch plays or performance arts, I bring string cheese. It's fun to eat and can eat it really slow, making the thinnest strings. I like popcorn but I have a difficult time measuring how much I eat when I go out so I will eat it at home (100 cal bag) sometimes.

    Becoming Free by Overcoming

You're amazing for putting this out there! This is so important for people to read and actually pay attention too. So many people think WLS will just fix everything, but as you said, you "did the very hard mental work. I broke addictions to fast food and the sugar." I think your success will be so much better because you have done that work and you know what you are accountable for. I am so excited that you get to start your journey!

    Frozen Peanut Butter Whips

In all the comments before the recipe it says that it makes four servings so to get the calories you need to make four.

Everyone above is right, lot's of reasons your weight might fluctuate. There's one reason I can guarantee you it's NOT. That you gained fat. While this is a bit of an oversimplification, you would have needed to eat 3500 calories more that you burned in the last week to gain just 1 pound of fat. Since at 3 weeks, you're probably not even eating 3500 calories in a week, I's a safe bet that whatever else is causing your overall weight to fluctuate, it's not that you added fat.
