I did read the book! and seriously it did change my life! I do not currently do any kind of programming. I am going to read Starting Strength and Practical Programming most likely over the holidays. While I am building strength and progressing, I am not doing any kind of programming. My trainer is now working with me on tempo which is a whole new world of hurt. And seriously, I am glad you can now be acknowledged for the contribution that post almost a year and a half ago was. What a privilege to have this shot at a new life. Thank you.

    Thanksgiving

It will be pretty hard to get through dinner without anybody noticing. If you don’t want anyone questioning you maybe the flu is a good plan? Pretty hard to hide when your only on purées. Good luck!

    Liver Shrink Diet

I started today on the liquid diet and for 2 weeks (my surgery is 2 weeks from today), I can only have 3 protein shakes, jello, broth, sugar free Popsicle, every day for 14 days. Why do some surgeons let you have food? Mine is really strict with NO FOOD, only liquids. Hope I can do this!!!!!

Hi friends! As I sit here on my second week off to recover (RNY was last Tuesday, exactly a week ago!), focusing on my fluids and protein intake, I can't help but dread going back to work. And it's not because I'm physically ill still or anything. I wouldn't mind going back to some other activity, just don't want to go back to this one. I've been meh about my career for years but ya know...pays the bills, has the insurance that pays for the RNY, etcetc. So...just curious. Do we have any dramatic tales of rejuvenating one's life after surgery, saying "screw it" and marching in a new direction?

    Thanksgiving

I feel like there should be a challenge: If you can wrap it in turkey breast you can have it. Lol There are so many diabetic and Keto friendly recipes out there now, I think this shouldn't be a major problem if anyone really really really wants to participate. Prep and bring you own foods, mostly eat those, force people to try your recipes, taste a few regular foods. Live life.

Sadly there are several negative people in my family that are extremely judgemental about obesity and weight loss surgery, and I don't need that sort of negativity right now, that's why I have kept this to myself. They have never struggled with food issues and have no empathy for those that do.

    These shakes, omg

Thin out the protein drinks with Fairlife Milk. Or as others mention, mix with coffee and tea, make frappacinos out of them. Love bananas and cream in coffee and also love chocolate with SF peppermint torani for holiday coffee, also vanilla or the caramel with sf pumpkin spice torani is remarkable!

You may have to ask the surgeon why his requirements are different. We are not surgeons and cannot answer the “why” of the differences in bariatric programs/preferences. We can only speak of our own experience, similar to your friends that were able to drink regular protein shakes.

I had GERD before sleeve surgery. In the past, I had some pretty bad bouts of it where it caused chest pain. I also had GERD pretty bad with the band. I'd also go long periods with nothing, so it was a mystery. When I started looking into another bariatric surgery, my surgeon cautioned me, but continued to perform pre-op testing. The doctor felt that my GERD was "situational", meaning that it was related to diet and obesity. So, we decided it was worth the risk, but he warned that there were no guarantees that I wouldn't have GERD after the sleeve. I had surgery on 4/10/18 and about 3 weeks afterwards, I started getting heartburn. I started on Nexium right away and the symptoms are well controlled with it. I wouldn't say that it's severe or "intractable" as my psych evaluator so kindly put it. It's just a little bit of heartburn and if I eat too late in the evening, I will wake with a sore throat (easily remedied by sleeping on an inclined bed). My advice, discuss with your doctor. Every person is different and every person will respond differently.
