    I'M NORMAL!!!

It's a lovely feeling to just be normal and average! I wish my 14 year old self knew that. Ha! Congratulations on being completely unremarkable when boarding an airplane, nothing-to-see-here when standing in a line to order food, totally un-noteworthy when using a machine at the gym, and living your very best life!!

So, I am still at 287 Began preopdiet diet for two weeks at weight 344. Lost down to 321 day of surgery and since that 321, I have lost 34 pounds (12 weeks since surgery) so I am a tad behind, if you go by the 3 pounds per week ratio. There are so many systems out there to determine where we should be. Percentages arent my thing. Can someone do it for me Am I behind? Oh, I know, quit worrying right? Just enjoy the journey. It's not a marathon right? I know . Arg But for a fat girl, don't I look cute? lol Vogue!

    Post op protein cinfusion

The three most important elements after gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as protein shakes. Without sufficient protein, your body will scavenge protein from other areas of your body, such as your muscles. Protein is extremely important after surgery as its job in the body is to build and maintain tissues including your body's major organs and skeletal muscles. Protein deficiency, when continued over a long period of time can cause a disease known as protein caloric malnutrition. Common symptoms are poor healing, fatigue, hair loss and muscle wasting. Immediate post op, protein promotes healing of the staple line and incisions. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars)

I have tried many of the artificial sweeteners and had no problem. But stay away from Haribo sugar free gummy bears. Eating too many of these can cause instant diarrhea. They contain lycasin. [Lycasin is a maltitol syrup with properties of taste and sweetness ideal for the preparation of sugar-free syrups, lozenges or jellies, according to manufacturer Roquette.com. Little known to most gummy bear connoisseurs, however, the side effects of Lycasin are gas, bloating and diarrhea.] http://universe.byu.edu/2013/09/24/sugar-free-haribo-gummy-bears-have-a-gas-tly-effect1/

Congratulations on catching yourself before the ultimate fall! That's huge! You are still a success because you've kept more than 50% of your weight off. You're even just a success for catching yourself before the fall. Now just go back to the bariatric basics of protein first and follow this. You'll be back under control in no time.

    Vitamins

I am not making a plug for Bariatric Vitamins but here goes. For me I thought about what I had just went thru and knowing that I am in this forever. I felt like I should at least buy the Bariatric vitamins. I tried the Flintstones and they were horrible, I tried the Chewable Centrum vitamins but man they are so nasty I ouldn't handle them. I have taken CELEBRATE Capsule for the whole time after trying the ones that made me sick. Another thing about me is I started taking chewable Vitamin C, they tasted so good kind of like a sour candy which I love beyond love anything sweet and tangy. Not good for me when I was woofing them down like candy. lol I buy CELEBRATE at Amazon. I like the fact that they are capsule and if need be you could open them and put them in applesauce or something while you are early out. Just my take on vitamins.
