No, you are not stretching your stomach drinking water. Remember at two weeks out your stomach is healing. You will gradually be able to consume more and more as the swelling from your surgery goes down. Once you start eating solids, the restriction will kick in. Promise. For now, keep focusing on staying hydrated. You're doing a good job!

    Alcohol?

Don't try it for the first time at your wedding! You don't want to feel sick on your special day! I am having surgery on Wednesday and know a couple of people who occasionly drink now after surgery but way after. I wouldn't risk it. Just have fun, plenty of time to drink later on!

    I need a buddy/mentor DFW area

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I'll be starting my liquid diet this Thursday. I'm praying that I make it through. I have no choice but to make it through. Thanks again and best wishes to you.

You are absolutely right. There is literally nothing I can do now regarding changing the past. All I can do is follow my plan as well as I'm able and hope and pray for success. If it is a slow success then that's just the way it's going to be for me. I cannot change that and freaking out about it will do nothing to help and will only upset me further. I think I will take your advice and move the scale to the closet... maybe weigh once per week at this early stage and then once per month after my follow up with my surgeon. That will be difficult but it's important. I have to remember that my goal isn't to arrive at a number on the scale. My goal is to create a healthy body. Thank you for your kindness and compassion today to a perfect stranger like me. It truly has helped far more than I can express. You made a difference for me today and that means so much. Wondering something

You're 5'2, correct? If so, you have nothing to worry about unless you drop below 192 (with a comorbid health condition) or below 219 lbs without any comorbidities. At 5'2, 192 lbs would represent a BMI of 35, while 219 would place you at a 40 BMI. As a reference, I am 5'1. I qualified for the sleeve through my insurance at 199.7 pounds (37 BMI) and a comorbid condition of elevated cholesterol. On the day I had surgery, I weighed 218 pounds with a BMI of 41. Yes, I had gained weight due to my inability to control my compulsive eating patterns. Good luck to you!

    Questions about gallstones

I know it's very common to develop gallstones after WLS. Today, I touched my stomach, just to the right of where my gallbladder should be and I felt a little pain. The pain was equivalent to that of a big pimple or a cyst that was ready to pop. It seems to move around a little too. Could this be a gallstone? Do they make the surrounding tissue sensitive to touch? I have no other symptoms so I don't plan on reaching out to my doctor, but I will tell him at my next appointment in 3 weeks.

    Years later...(9)

I am sorry that you have encountered many problems post-op and I wish you well. In general, the three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. How are you doing in these areas. A few years after my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I was told that my surgeon tends to make the stomach pouch a little smaller than some. This meant that I had to really adhere to the meal volume requirement. If I exceed this volume, it generally lead to dumping syndrome. My nutricianist recommended that to counteract this, I should eat more small meals per day, perhaps 5. So I was wondering if this might help in your case.

    Pre-Op Diet

I think there were three levels of pre-op diet that my surgeon presented: one for those with BMIs between 35-40 which was just clear liquids 24 hours pre-surgery (so as to not risk slipping below a BMI of 35 as the pre-op diet will cause weight loss). Then for those between 40-50 BMI it was 2 protein shakes & 2 meals a day; the 50+ BMI is full liquid diet for two weeks pre-surgery. I'm on day 8 of the 2nd option, so I'm lucky I get to chew some food at least once a day.

    Aetna!?

I have Aetna and as long as you stay the same weight or loose you'll be fine. You just can't gain weight while on you 6 month program. You should hear something very soon. Aetna approved mine in just a few days.

    Clearance Rack

So the wife and I went to Kohl's last night and I went over to the clearance rack in the men's department. I found a nice jacket on clearance (originally $100.00, on clearance for $20.00) but all they had was large and small. I know the large is too big so I tried on the small. It fit perfectly. All I can say is WOW! I went from an x-Large in October to a small in May. If I get too much more smaller I might have to start shopping in the boys section. LOL
