Shakes, Shakes, And More Shakes!

So today is day 4 out of 13 of my pre-operative shake diet. The shakes are actually pretty good, I make them with light unflavored soy milk and put fruit in. My hunger has been really managable, but wow! I can imagine I'm going to be seriously bored by the time surgery comes around!

The nice thing is I have lost 13 pounds now since my heaviest (7 in the last 4 days), and everything feels so nice and loose. Physically, I feel better already. It's amazing that I have so little control over food, when I feel so horrible physically when I'm eating crap and binging. My head hurts, I feel sick, I have trouble sleeping, my joints hurt more, and I feel tired every second of the day when I'm binging and eating crappy food. How is that addictive? It is though - even as I write this I know that I'm really craving a cheeseburger and fries. What a long road it will be to unlearn such messed-up habits!

The good news is I haven't had a shake in ages! You may get bored for a bit but it is totally worth it. Just remind yourself of that. I don't think most of us ever get over the thoughts of having our old favorites. Once you are post-op you will find that some of them don't tickle your fancy nearly as much as they used to. I used to eat dill pickles by the jar. I barely eat them at all now and I don't crave them. When I go out to eat with my hubby he orders French fries and I eat 3 of his and then start on my grilled chicken salad with no dressing. (only because I am picky about my dressing...not that you can't have it) Once you have learned what your new stomach can and can't handle you will be amazed how things change. We can all eventually eat the things we love, in moderation. We have to remember to eat to live not live to eat.

My dietician has recommended Slim Fast 2X a day, and Premeir Protein Shake 3X a day for the preop. Originally she wanted me to use Medifast but I've had it before and I don't like the aftertaste. What are the ingredients to your shakes? They sound good.

Awesome, I am using the Bariatric Advantage protein powder that I got from my surgeon. I blend it with soy milk and some fruit. They are not bad! For times when I'm in a hurry and can't use a blender, I use the Premier Protein shakes too. Thanks, I'm excited too!

Carol, thanks for the support...I would love it if even a few of my cravings reduced or went away after surgery! I have been trying to remind myself, when I crave something, that I WILL be able to have it one day. Maybe not 2 pounds of it at one sitting (LOL) but I have been careful not to think "I'll never have ____ again" because I think that it would be just too hard to stick to this.
