What Have I Done?

Oh man, I hope I haven't screwed everything up! I'm on day 5 out of 13 days of shakes before the surgery. I was so crazy hungry today, and the shakes just weren't taking the hunger away. I'm stressed and tired. I broke down and made myself some scrambled eggs and toast. No fat - I used butter spray- but I feel a little sick now and I'm freaking out that the surgery is going to be canceled now because my liver will be too big or something. If I've gone through all this for nothing I don't know what I'll do =(

Feeling pretty low right now...

Hey! Done is done! If you keep beating yourself up you run the risk of giving up. Forgive yourself and move on to tomorrow. One day at a time-- You can do this.

Every dr. is different - we did not have to do liquid before surgery except the day before (clears) - did atkins induction with 20 or less carbs a day. Fat is not the problem - carbs are. Watch the bread - the eggs are most likely a non issue.

I think you will most likely be fine - the pre-surgery liquid diet is rough, hang in there :)

I know some doctors (like mine) that want you to do a 2 week liquid protein shake diet....thats it. (although i think i can have sugar free jello)

But then a guy I met on this forum can have chicken and steak and pretty much an atkins life style for those two weeks. So i dont think you'll do TOO much harm...JUST DONT DO IT AGAIN ;) doc's want you to do it for a reason...so i guess we all should stick to the plan! good luck everything will be fine :)

My doctor did not require any pre-op diet except the day before - clear liquids and I did not even do that completely. One fall back is not going to hurt. I think the sugar-free jello is definitely a great idea. It can be a life saver.

I think you will be fine! I am having surgery on Monday and only have to start a clear liquid diet tomorrow and do the magesium citrate drink (yuck)!! So, you have this under control.

Well, I did get through it. I got right back on the shakes the next day, and thanks to all you supportive people I was a lot less stressed about my slip-up. Thanks!

I have a question regarding the liquid preop diet... What does the diet really consist of? Are you allowed to drink as many shakes as you want or are you only allowed 3 meals per day which would equate to 3 shakes per day? Just curious as to why everyone complains about the hunger levels while on the preop diet....!?

My pre-op diet is Bariatric Advantage protein powder shakes for 2 weeks. I can mix the powder with water, milk, or soy milk, and add fruit or greek yogurt if I wish. I can have 4-5 shakes per day, which works out to be about 1000-1200 calories per day. I can also have sugar-free clear liquids as I wish. From what I have read on the forums, the diet varies surgeon to surgeon. Some people do the shakes for 1 week, others, get to eat food but have to follow an Atkins diet.
