Alot of Will Power

Last night my wife and kids came home from the High School playoff game where they were working concessions. They walk in with two boxes full of hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, pickles, chili and start eating them and I had to help pack and freeze some of the burgers and dogs. I did not say anything when wife asked me to help, but I got aggrivated and very snappy. I felt I could not walk away and not help, but standing there wrapping up this great smelling food after being on my liquid pre op diet now for 5 and 1/2 days I was dying inside. It took every ounce of strength I had not to take a bite, but I didn't. I helped and walked away and went to bed. These are the times I struggle with. I am strong and ready for this lifestyle change. Surgery on the 1st of Dec. Just had to vent about this situation as it is boiling inside me. I will not give in!!!!:)

Thanks for the suport. I know this is just one of many, many, many more to come. I have to learn to not love food, but damn that is hard to do.

Good for you! I was banded on Monday- the pre-op diet was harder than the surgery itself. My husband doesn't get it at all- he is still wondering why I haven't been making dinner and when I am going to start again. It is so hard when we can't eat and those around us just don't seem to understand how hard it is. Best of luck to you and feel free to give a shout if you ever need support- God knows we all need support sometimes!

I too have been there. I woud've taken the bite though. I'm so happy you didn't! Yeah, the pre-op diet is harder than post-surgery. If you can do that you will be just fine.

I appreciate and I am sure I will need all the support I can get through this all. I am a pretty stubborn person, thankfully. I think that will actually benefit me on this journey for a change..haha. How are you feeling after being banded this past Monday? Are the gas pains as bad as some say? Are you holding down your liquids? What type of liquids are you intaking now? Sorry so many questions, but I just want to be prepared. Hope to talk again soon.

Thanks Jen. I appreciate the support. How long have you had your band? How are you doing?

Hey Guy, I am in the same boat as you. Im being banded on Friday, and yesterday my kids and grandkids came over and my wife made them steak and spaghetti. They wanted me to sit down with them but I refused. I did have about 2 oz of beef and a couple of strands of past(I do mean a couple) but it was like a torture. Ive lost about 8 lbs this week and my sugar is almost normal. It all gives me great hope for the future.

Keep up the good work. I think you are doing great. I am in big trouble. I work where there is nothing but food around me...... I am hopping to be band in Jan.

Yes looks like we are very close to same surgery date. It is hard when people are eating around you but I am taking it one day at a time. One more down today and I got to walk two miles tonight with my daughter so that was nice and good for me. I have not cheated the liquid diet yet and it has been now 8 full days. I have 8 more before surgery date on 1st and I have lost 14 lbs so far and am now down to 313. My goal is to reach 200-210. Keep focused and stay on those liquids, they say it really helps with the surgery, plus it sheds some extra pounds before we even get the band. I know it will be alot of hard work and a HUGE commitment but I am in it for the long haul now. No turning back. I will make it work as I know you will. Best of luck and let me know how it goes this Friday. ... Jeff

Hey, thanks for the words of encouragement. I can use all I can get. I know how it is to work around food all day, it doesn't make this easy, but sometimes you just have to put your health and well being ahead of all other, including food and do what you have to do. Hell sometimes this week I wondered if it would just not be better to be heavy, eat what I want, when I want and be happy and deal with all the different things I can't do or have difficulty doing being hindered by the extra weight. But I know that is not where I want to go with my life and the direction I need to take. So I made this decision as hard as it may be, to move in a direction that will be better for not only me but my family in the future. I love food, but I love life more and I think we all need to be reminded sometimes of what is more important. Best of luck with everything.
