It completely depends on the insurance company. I was very lucky and had approval 2 days after my doctor's office submitted. But some people have to wait up to a month for a decision.

I've been told by my insurance co (BCBSIL) that they generally get the approvals done within 5-10 days of receipt of complete information from the Dr.

That said, they require 3 months of a supervised diet before I can even submit for surgery, so the whole process is actually much longer. I had my first meeting with the program coordinator at surgeons office on Dec. 7 and I am hoping to be banded in April or May of 2010.

Good luck to you!

At least 4 months. If you're lucky you be be banded in late April. But don't fret it. The time flies by.

It only takes a week or 2 for the insurance company to approve but most insurance companies require a 3 to 6 month supervised diet period before the paperwork can even be submitted.

i am very very lucky because my insurance doesnt require a supervised diet it only requires a visit with a dietician. i know this because several of the nurses i work with have the same insurance and i have spoke with them regaurding the issue and they didnt have to have this diet. so thanks so much with the info you all have provided and the nurses i work with i have a pretty good time frame.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
