Is unfill this the right thing to do?

Recommended Posts

I would just like to run this scenario by you guys and get opinions. I had my 4th fill on November 23rd and was very very tight. I decided to try and wait to see if I get loose at the 2 week mark as usual.

Right now, being over 2 weeks and I still cannot eat anything but mushies and crap food (ice cream, etc). Even with ice cream, I cannot eat much before I feel like throwing up. I have tried grinding up meat, and even that I cant get down. I did an experiment, and with ground up chili, I could only eat 2 oz before I got pain in my chest.

I am going today for an unfill (small). Is that what you would do?

oh, and I have stopped losing weight because I am eating all the wrong stuff, thats all that will comfortably go down. Opinions welcome, although I will cry if you slap me (verbally)

thanks!

You are definitely doing the right thing in my opinion. It sounds like you have a good handle on it and know what to do. And you already know that continuing is defeating the purpose of your band. And I am sure the intent is not to be so tight you can't eat the proper solid foods. The last fill I had, I felt too restricted even as I was walking out of the office so I sat in the waiting room for a few minutes and realized I couldn't even swallow so I went back in and they did a small unfill. I noticed the difference immediately and had no problems afterward. I have my next fill today and I am planning on doing that again after my fill I will waiting in the waiting area before I leave to be sure I am not too tight. I live rather far away and don't want to have to suffer through coming back or waiting for another appointment if it is too much. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Yes that's the best to do. I had the same thing happen to me I was so tight I couldn't even swallow Water. I had all my Fluid taken out. Thank god u don't have to I'm still trying to play catch up I lose and gain I will finally go in for a fill thursday to get me back to where I was before all the drama began. I hope this jump starts my weight loss again because I need it I'm tired of yo-yoing. I think u will do fine having a small unfill.

Without a doubt, you need a slight unfill. The band isn't designed to put us on a liquid/mushy diet. I'm sure you'll feel much better once you can start eating a more varied (and solid) diet again.

Oh, Mellie, if anyone slapped at you there are a bunch of us that would stick up for you. You absolutely did the right thing getting an unfill. As you found out being overfilled is a miserable way to live and can result in wt gain as youand I and others know first hand. I was already tight and getting dehydrated and then got a diagnosis of gout this morning and had to go for a 1.2cc unfill so I could take the meds w/o hurting my pouch. It has been 4 hours since I barfed and that is a wonderful feeling. Of course now I have to fight gaining wt but at least I won't be barfing for Christmas get togethers.

Best of Luck,

Mimi

Hope you are feeling better - same thing happened to me - plus I had a cold so tried to ride out the cold which is never ending.. so i gave in -plus i had to be really careful about not drinking ANYTHING 2-3 hours before bed as I was choking. SO I went for an unfill.. feel better - I will reassess in Jan and inch up on fills going forward.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
