Losing below your target weight...what happens then?

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie still and have so many questions! I go to a seminar next week. I am 5'2 and currently weigh 184 lbs. and this puts me on the borderline BMI-wise for this surgery. My target weight is 110. What happens if you lose more than you should? Do they just not fill you or decrease your fills?

I can lose between 10-20 lbs. on my own, but it doesn't stay off which is why I want this surgery. I'm hoping to be able to plead my case to a surgeon soon....

Thanks and blessings, Michelle

wow for a newbie ur very ambitious which is fabulous!!

my questions then were "how much will i lose? will i get to my target weight?"

If i learned anything.. its to take this in baby steps.

from seminar to doctors visits- to all the other apts they make you go to.. all of it.. it can get overwhelming.

hopefuly it will all work out and when you get to goal you can ask that question again!

i sure as hell hope ill be asking that question soon :w00t:

Are you self pay? If you are like me, you know how to gain and know how to lose, but maintenance is a new world. When you get to your target wt you may keep your fill and eat more calories or get a little unfill to eat more calories. I will add that short ppl like us need very few calories before we start gaining, so it wwill be trial and error. Best wishes.

If I manage to get below my target weight I will decide what to do then. I will probably be over the moon. I do have a friend that has been banded a couple of years and she is going to get a slight unfill as she doesn't want to lose any more weight. So if i ever end up in that situation I am sure I will do the same.

When I get to my target weight, my fill will be adjusted to the point where I'm able to eat enough to maintain that weight. That may mean some fill. It may mean no fill although from what I'm reading, those maintaining still have some fill.

When you get to 110, you'll still monitor your eating and if you gain 5 pounds, you readjust how/what you're eating or your activity level to drop that 5 pounds. The difference is that the band is still there to access if you are able to eat to excess...and are.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
