Large Pills, Will they go down???

Recommended Posts

 I have several Large pills that I take in the morning and at night when I go to bed. What have you been told about taking large meds post op times. I take alot of pills. I don't think they will go down through the little hole in my stomach. :scared2:

Any suggestions??

Thanks for the help.

Large pills will not go down, you could ask your doctor to prescribe th liquid form, many drugs come in liquid too. But if not, you could always crush them and take them with apple sauce (nasty but what r u gonna do?). Just be sure to check if the pills are scored (a line dividing the pill in the middle), if not it may not be safe to crush. So ask your pharmacist just to be sure. Good luck!

I am a transplant patient and have to take anti-rejection meds. One pill that I take is pretty large so I took it with me when I went for my 2nd app. yesterday. I showed it to my doctor and he said I would have no problem getting it down. I would say that it is about the size of a large Vitamin and it has rubber like coating so I can't crush it or break it into. I sure hope he knows what he's talking about because I can't even live without these pills.

I have problems with large pills since I was banded. Thankfully the ones I've ever had to take so far were able to be cut up; the biggest ones I cut into thirds.

I have crohn's disease so i take 18 pills a day - 2 of them are tiny, the other 16 are all the same - about the size of the metal end of a pencil (not including eraser) and i usually take them 4 at a time, 4 times a day.

yesterday after surgery, the doctor had me take one with thim there. it went fine. he suggested i take one per hour every waking hour for the next few days. its gone fine today.

he said after a few days, i should be able to take them 4 at a time.... just a few minutes apart each. after fills, he suggests the same one an hour approach.

this medication is the ONLY formulation, no liquids, crushables, etc. seems good so far, keeping my fingers crossed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
