Banded Yesterday...and what an experience!!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday at Beebe Hospital in Delaware, by Dr. Zarif. After some scheduling problems and a Nor'eastern storm I made it into surgery at 12 noon. I was out by 1:15 and awake by 2:30. Very little pain, just felt like a bad tummy ache. Dr. gave me Tylenol w/ Codeine liquid and that has been helping. Slept perfect lastnight, getting in and out of bed was easy for the most part.

This morning, my left shoulder was killing me and after doing some arm circle exercises and stretching I took some pain medication and laid down. I woke up about 1 hour later and the pain was gone.

I was able to get down 12 ounces of Protein Drink by sipping and sipping Water in between. So all in all, I had a wonderful experience!

In the recovery room after surgery there was a wrapped gift box that was brought to me. The wonderful nurses begged me to open it and what I found inside was this...

A beautiful gold stamp that said, "A gift for you ...As you begin this journey" and inside was a water bottle, pedometer, book of positive inspirations, samples of Vitamins and Protein Drinks. This came from my surgeons office! How awesome was that??!?!?!? So, I am doing fine and will keep in touch as the days continue.

Good for you - I hope and pray that every day is easier and better. I will watch for your progress, as my surgery date in a month away.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
