First fill of 5ml and no real change?

Recommended Posts

I just need some reassurance! I am not feeling any difference! I had my first fill 9 days ago and I am still feeling very little restriction. I have not had any pain or discomfort but I haven't really tested it either.

Will I have more restriction after my next fill on Dec 2? I am worried that I am not going to lose weight!

It is a long journey, isn't it? You are in Bandster Hell, waiting for fills to take you to restriction. If you do not want to gain wt like I did, start exercising and limit your food intake like you are on a regular old fashioned wt loss diet. Restriction will come, but maybe not in full force til your 3rd fill. The Dec 2 fill should help you control your appetite and portions. Best wishes,

Mimi

In all honesty, there's no way to say for sure that you will have restriction after your next fill, but you will get it eventually. My first fill was 4.5 cc in a 9 cc band, and it gave me a little restriction for a short period of time, but it petered out, and I had to get another and another, etc until finally, long lasting-perfect restriction. Just don't get discouraged if you're a little slower getting restriction, or if you're restriction doesn't last as long as you expected. The so-called sweet spot can be a moving target. You will lose fat stores around your stomach, which naturally causes your band to loosen. I think sometimes, what I hoped was restriction was just after-fill swelling of my stoma, which subsided after a several days. However, eventually, all it took was one tiny fill to give me the kind of restriction I was seeking.

Lou, I am so glad I saw your post. I got my first fill Sat and here it is Mon and I feel no more restriction than before the fill. She put in 6cc and when I drank the barium she thought it was too tight so she took out a cc. I felt a little restriction that day , but not anymore. I am going to ask her to leave it a bit tight next time. Maybe I don't swell after the fill or something. Anyway, I am staying hopeful, you too

I was getting a bit worried about waiting until Dec 2 for my fill so I rand my Drs office. I found out that what I am experiencing is normal and I have to be patient. I am glad I didn't have to drink the barium!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
