I had surgery 9-25-09 and I also suffered with Constipation and I could take stool softeners. When I went back for my checkup my Dr said I could drink Fiber every day he said that would get me back to normal. I have been doing that and I feel a lot better. Hope that info helps

I don't see any reason why you couldn't take stool softeners. If in doubt, always ask your surgeon.

Sure you can! Also, take in some fiber and drink your Water everyday.

My surgeon said I could do benefiber. I did try that the first week, mixed in sugar free juice. It has no taste. If that doesn't work you can try milk of magnesia. Absolutely no metamucil though.

My doc said to have some Milk of Magnesia if I haven't had a bowel movement after second day after my operation.

If that doesn't work, try a fleet enema. And if it's an ongoing issue, try Colace (stool softener).

Anyone having problems 2 months after surgery? I have been having a constant stomach ache and not going very much at all. I've tried Ex lax. Helped a little:sad:.

5 days post op the nurse recommended senokot (natural laxative). She said it is safe to take as often as I need. Works like a charm.

try taking a fiber suppliment daily - I use Vitafusion fiber gummies that I bought at Target - great taste, and really helps!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
