1st day post op- OUCH!

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I was finally banded yesterday using the Realize band. I had a terrible experience after walking the 2nd time, got cold, clammy and severe nausea. I returned home in the late afternoon yesterday and was in a significant amount of pain and tried to take the Vicodin crushed in some applesauce and minutes later ran heaving to the bathroom. i didn't actually throw up but heaved and boy did that hurt! I had a rough night with no pain meds and then my mom picked me up some liquid Tylenol today. Still in decent pain about a 7 out of 10 but at least am able to tolerate more fluids today. I am walking a lot and taking the GasX strips. Just hope I can tolerate the pain meds after cause the Tylenol is not really cutting it!:cursing:

I couldn't hack the liquid hydrocodone either... made me nauseous. My nurse told me to try liquid tylenol every 4 hours... if it wasn't lastnight mix in liquid ibuprofen every 2-3 hours ... it really helped get me through the first couple of days... by day 5 I wasn't taking any pain med at all. It gets better every day

I was given the liquid hydrocodone and it helped me a lot. Can't imagine even being given a pill to crush and take with applesauce right after surgery!

If the pain meds make you nauseous, call your doctor and ask for some phenergan...it really helps a lot.

Good luck to you...keep telling yourself that it will get better!!!

My Dr.s didn't even prescribe the liquid meds! That would've been a lot kinder!!!! In a little while I am going to try one pill crushed in applesauce again as at least the anesthesia is wearing off! Thanks so much for the suggestions! I have had other laparoscopic procedures before that were horrendous! This one is bad but not as bad as the others. I guess I thought the pain wouldn't be this bad!

I had my surgery a week ago yesterday. I promise you it does get a little bit better each day. I was given Tylenol with Codein. Perhaps you can call your Dr back and ask him to call in something a little stronger if you are in that much pain. I was also given pills that I was told to just cut in half. Easier to take than crushed in my opinion since I taste it less. Just two swallows and it's gone. Getting up and walking helped me the most. I had terrible gas pains in my back until this afternoon and it would have been worse if I didn't walk every few hours. We all heal differently. Some people say it was a breeze and they were up and about the next day. Others like myself took a little longer to come around. It does get better though and any pain that is too severe in your opinion should be called into the Dr. That's what he's there for. Congratulations on your banding by the way! I wish you much success!!:(

I had liquid hydrocodone and I also asked for Zofran (which dissolves in your mouth and knocks out the nausea). I would call and ask for both. I am finishing day 5 and it is WAY better than day 1. I only took a half a dose of pain meds all day today.

I have the liquid vicodin too, I have been sleeping for the past 2 days, surgery was on Monday. I still feel like crapola. My stomach is so sore.

I wish there was some better pain meds.... like something that would numb my incisions - I would rather be up, even going to work - only if the cuts in my gullet weren't so sore.

Hi everyone, I'm new to posting threads. I've been logging on for a while and reading all the great postings, but I've noticed that some bandsters have a weight tracker (ticker) or something like that on their postings. I was wondering does anyone know how I can get that on my postings too. I've been banded since 8/26/09 and have lost 36 lbs. Thanks in advance. SkinnyOompa:smile2:

I am one of the lucky ones. I didn't need pain meds at all after leaving the hospital. My meds are still unopened in my medicine cabinet.

It does get better everyday and soon your pain will be a faint memory. Congrats on being banded. Hang in there and enjoy your journey into a new you land.

Click on my ticker and it will take you to the site where you can design your own ticker. It will show up the next time you post something. Remember to go back and change it each time you have weight loss.

My doctor sent me home with 2 prescriptions.. One liquid for pain and phenergan liquid for nausea. The liquid pain killer is foul tasting, but it is better than being in pain.

I get my 1st fill Nov.24th.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
