Banded 10-09-09 and really nervous

Recommended Posts

I was banded 10-09-09 and am really nervous about my band. I am supposed to be on liquids and strained Soups but I am so hungry. I have cheated a little (ate a piece of string cheese, not straining my soups) but I am afraid I am consuming too much at a time. Dr's office said 4-6 oz 6x daily but I know I am taking in 8-10 oz in my servings. I am scared of causing my pouch to get bigger or dislodging my band. I am so hungry all the time. Any words of advice?

The liquid phase is tough but the reason for it is to allow your body to heal.Do not cheat with things that you have to chew as this can lead to band slippage. Rather increase your Protein as this can help you to feel full longer.

Use Protein shakes, add things like lentils, chickpeas to Soups and then blend them really well.Drink skim milk etc.

if you feel you have to chew something eat diet jelly as it dissolves before it gets to the stoma so there is no churning of the stomach involved.

We know how you feel. it is horrible but you can do it. Remember it is not for ever but for a very short period.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
