Realize I'm Beating a Dead Horse but...

Protein shakes? (Sorry if this is long) I am HOPEFULLY fast approaching my surgery and I REALLY need to find ONE thing and stick with it. I have tried SO many different Protein Shakes and brands and so far, the ones I like best are the HMR800 from the doctor's office, but, I have 2 problems with them. #1. They only come in chocolate and vanilla and #2. They're EXPENSIVE. So, I need ideas. I've tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury brand and I do like them and they have a few different flavors. Also, I had been mixing my own shakes. 1 scoop of Member's Mark (Sam's Club) whey Protein with 2 spoons of dry milk and 2 spoons of sugar free pudding mix. Problem with them? They calories are a little high.... Right at about 200 for both the vanilla and the chocolate and if I want to add fruit to them to vary the flavor, the calories go up even more. I need to find SOMETHING that's affordable, easy to find, comes in more than chocolate and vanilla and under about 190 calories and low carb...IS THERE SUCH A THING?? I was thinking of trying Wonder Slim next, has anyone tried them? Here is what I've tried so far......

HMR800--Good but expensive

Spiru-tein--Lots of flavors, but, I can taste the algae

EAS whey Protein--Only one scoop with Water and tastes weak (two scoops is 240 calories)

Bariatric Advantage--Lots of flavors, but, NO flavor in them.

Unjury--Liked these. I can add milk to them and they're OK, but, still, a little thin

So, my NEXT plan was to try the WonderSlim pudding/shake mixes. They have a few flavors. What works and tastes like a shake, kind of thick, that I can shake up in a Blender Bottle? Or, what liquid Protein have you all tried out there that has worked and is somewhat palatable?HELP!!!! :scared2:

OK, so, it looks like I need to get to Walmart and take a look at what they have. I really need to find something that tastes good and is lower in calories than what I've been drinking. Body Fortress and Slim Fast. I'll look at those too. I'm also going to try to hit a GNC this weekend to see if I can find a couple of Muscle Milk Lights in single servings so I can try them. I just ordered some Wonder Slim stuff last night, but, not sure if I'll like them or not. I think the price is about right for them, cheaper than the HMR 800 shakes anyway!

I like the Premier RTD shakes (I get them at Costco)....the one by me only has chocolate, but they're good...they're 160 calories and 30 grams of protein....I drink one for Breakfast and I'm good for 4 hours (and they taste good - not sickly sweet or anything).

Dymatize Elite Whey Protein Cafe Mocha...It is really goos especially when you make it with skim milk. 117 calories for one scoop with 24grms of protein-0 sugar! I do not like sweet Protein drinks...so this really works well for me. I tried a bunch...like this the best. I got this at Vistacost...$36.00 for 5 lbs. plus shipping.

Take care and good luck!

Isopure Dutch chocolate low carb from GNC. I used to prefer Slim Fast low carb, but the Isopure is actually better. A bit thinner but without the aftertaste. Best of all it has 40 gm Protein vs the 10 in Slim Fast. Imagine drinking 4 12oz cans of slim fast after the surgery just to get the same amount of Protein.

When I first started drinking them, I couldn't find any that I liked. I ended up going with the New Whey Protein Shots because ounce for ounce, they had the most Protein.< /p>

Eventually, I got over my hatred for the shakes. What still bothers me is that all of the shakes are sweet - too sweet.

Looks like I have some things to check out! I stopped in at a GNC this afternoon to see what they had. I bought a few different things to try. The guy there recommended an isolate Protein since it's not being used for bodybuilding. He pointed me to the GNC brand Wheybolic Extreme 60. 1 serving is 3 scoops and it's 310 calories, but, I had one scoop in 8 oz of skim milk and it was REALLY good. The only problem is that it's still a little on the pricey side, but, not too bad. They guy said that they've re-designed the packing and so for 3 lbs, which is 48 servings (if you use one scoop), it was $34.99 (regular price is $59.99 for 3 pounds). I also picked up two bottles of Isopure in Alpine Punch and pineapple Orange. I don't know how I'll like them just yet. Two more things I picked up today were Muscle Milk Light in the 100 calorie packs in strawberry (haven't tried them yet) and EAS Myoplex Carb Control in French Vanilla. The EAS RTD? YUCK! I'm going to try to freeze it and see if it's any better. So, that's where I stand on the Great Protein Quest! I have plans to "play" with what Walmart has sometime this next weekend. I am determined to find something that I really like that won't break my bank. I had NO idea it was going to be THIS damn hard!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
