1 month post op and stuck at 20lbs

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was banded on sept 18. I had 2 weeks of liquid before and 2 weeks after. I started mushies about a week ago. I lost 20 pounds on the liquid diet, but am stuck on 20. I know I shouldnt be in a rush, but I was really hoping to keep losing. I dont know what the deal is. I do have to admit that I havent been on complete mushies and have cheated a little. I get hungrier than I expected to get.

My MD doesnt put any fill in for 2 months after the surgery so I wont have my first fill until Nov 30. I am hoping that will help. anyone have experience with this?? any advice???

I also know that I need to start exercising more. I plan on joining the gym this week. I was planning on joining earlier, but ended up getting the crud and havent felt like it.

thanks for any help!!

Your body needs time to heal from a major surgery and to catch up with a quick 20 pound loss. Relax. In 6 months you will be 60 pound thinner and close to a hundred in a yr if that's your goal! It comes off easy once you get started with fills and get in a losing routine and it;s exciting especially if you love to shop!!

You could be talking about me! I am also stuck at 20 lbs. :cursing:I won't get a fill until Nov 9th. I am also doing the exercise, it doesn't seem to be helping the scale, but I feel much

better and more energy.

I am always amazed at how I always seem to find a thread on this site for the very issue that I am facing. I was banded on 23 September and lost 15 pounds on the pre/post op liquid phase and now seem to be stuck. I was wondering about it this morning on my way to work and trying to decide what to do about it when I opened up this site and voila- somebody beat me to the punch by posting the very thoughts that I have been having! I have been trying to faithfully follow a healthy eating plan since my surgery, even more so now that I was allowed to work in some mushies and do not feel that I have been overeating at all and yet, I stay in the same weight range. I am just going to grin and bear it for a while longer and wait for my first fill. As long as I am truthful in what I am eating and I have added a little exercise, lif is still good and I am sure the weight will come off. I just have to believe in the process!

I was banded on September 11th, had my first fill yesterday. I have lost 22lbs, and when the scale did not move a couple of weeks ago I was not happy. But then I pulled out the measuring tape and I had lost an inch or more everywhere, so sometimes you need to look at different things and not just the scale.

Good job and good luck.

Good Afternoon to All:

I know my body would stop ever so often losing weight...I would get stuck for a couple of weeks. That is normal and the body needs a chance to catch up with the 20 lb weight loss.....the body wants to hold on to the fat....so sometimes switch things around with your diet....do different things (healthy things)......make sure you ARE eating....get the metabolism going...protein, Protein, Protein. Track what you are eating and don't get discouraged....the weight will start dropping off again.....Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
