Scared to death...

Recommended Posts

Long story short, I went for my yearly evaluation - they did an upper GI with Barium. It showed that my stomach is bulging around my esophagus. I haven't had any symptoms, but this is common when the band is too tight. I've been eating OK, no sliming, no BP, no vomiting, no acid reflux. My surgeon was actually surprised. If we hadn't found it, I would have increased my risk of erosion.

Anyway - he had to remove ALL the Fluid out of my band. I have NO restriction. I am trying to be careful and still eat the same as I was, but there is definitely a difference. It's my 1 year bandiversary tomorrow! I've lost 55lbs so far and I really don't want to go backwards. I've tried to hard to get where I am.

When I had my band emptied on Thursday, I was an emotional wreck - I was grieving. I guess I just want someone to say it will be OK.

I hope I am strong enough not to gain any weight back. And right at the Holidays to top it off!

myTurn,

I am so sorry to hear this. How long do you have to wait? Did the doc think you could be refilled? Just try to stay strong, wouldnt you think that you actual stomach has shrunk. That being said, try to stay with the same portions if you can.....maybe it has shrunk enough that it will be satisfied?

Well, I hope that you can get refilled soon. Keep us posted!

Doc said I have to wait a minimum of three months before we can consider refilling. If my stomach goes "back to normal" we can start again, but if it doesn't, we will have to consider removing it. He feels pretty strongly that everything will be alright, I'm not his first pt this has happened to; but it is devastating to me.

I guess the only good thing thus far, I am drinking a lot more Water trying to keep the full feeling!

Ya, I would be scared by that too! Try a couple of tricks a friend of my daughter does (she has lost 100lbs without the band), I also read these in a health book. One, drink a full glass of Water as soon as you wake up. This helps with metabolism. Take 2 tsps (i think) of apple cider vineagar before a meal. And lots and lots of water! Which we already know we are supposed to be doing. I am at a stand still on the scale and I am going to try to do these tricks to see what happens. Wont hurt

Hope this helps, keep me posted! PM me if you just need to vent!

Thanks, I will.

I haven't told many people that I am empty. There are too many eyes watching me and my progress here at work. I work in a large clinic, 30 providers, and I am the first here to have WLS. Sometimes I feel like I'm being treated like a test subject, lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
