Hi all! (5 days post-op)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My name is Cristina, I'm 25 and I got banded on the October the 5th.

The first 4 days were awful for me, my band was too tight and liquids were getting stuck (causing the usual pain, discomfort and constant 'gurgling'). I got some Fluid taken out yesterday and it's made a huge difference. To be honest I was regretting the surgery at first but I think that's normal - it comes as a bit of a shock to the system and I don't think anyone is 100% prepared for what's to come.

I'm supposed to go on 'mushies' next week but I'm scared so think I might stick to liquids for a bit longer - I don't think my stomach is ready just yet.

I've shed 5 kilos in 5 days (due to the band being too tight) so I'm anticipating that to slow down, which if fine - health comes first.

The post-surgery numbness (mainly below my port scar) freaks me out of a bit but hopefully some sensation will return at some point.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting some of you - I don't know anyone else whose been banded in real life so it gets a bit lonely

Hello- I know what you mean about not knowing anyone in 'real life' who is going through this.

I am soon to be banded, I should be getting my date in a few weeks. I am guessing early December.

It helps hearing about people who have just been banded. It looks like our stats are very close to the same. I am also 5'10" and about the same as your start weight.

I live in Phoenix, Arizona but I have always planned on traveling to your area of the world. How are things today for you?

My band date is November 2. I'm so excited. Yesterday I met someone who is having her surgery the same day, by the same doctor. We are going to be lap band buddies. but it helps to have someone who has already done it because, like you said, you don't really know what to expect. Do you have Fluid in your band already. I thought you had to wait a while?

5 kilos in 5 days eh?? Are you in Australia?? if so, where? I'm in Perth but originally a Vic girl

I was supposed to have my surgery on Oct 5th, but it was delayed until the 20th because I was given the wrong information.

Even if we are not in the same state, feel free to message me anytime for a chat, and maybe one day we can meet up and have a coffee.... we are planning on doing an around Aus trip sometime in the next year or two. :P

I am in the same stage you were at the moment... constant gurgling when drinking liquids.. my numbness has worn off now and I'm in a bit of pain inside and out from bruising.. but I'm hoping it all passes soon enough.

Hope you are doing well :crying:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
