I BARELY got approved!! WOOHOO!!!!

Recommended Posts

My surgeon and his staff are awesome!! The insurance specialist called me yesterday and said that when she sent in my information for pre-approval the ins. co. sent back a denial saying that as of Oct. 1st they require a 12 MONTH physician supervised diet history!! My insurance coverage is through a very small ins. company in that is only in the county I live in and they are only contracted with one surgeon: mine (luckily he is very skilled and has been doing LB surgery since 2003). So when they got this news from the ins. co. he was really annoyed and he went and had a meeting with the insurance company's board of directors and told them it was ridiculous! He talked them into reducing it to a 6 month diet and he also talked them into approving my surgery WITHOUT the 6 month diet because they had totally dropped the ball in notifying him (esp. since he is the only LAP-BAND surgeon they even work with!!) of their new requirements and I've been working on getting this approval since early September. So basically he fought for me and they approved it! Isn't that awesome!?!?!

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!

My surgery is October 26th! I can't wait!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
